So Far What Have You Learned?

In all these exclusive/inclusive threads that are appearing here on GC, What have you learned?

abaici 03-19-2005 02:42 AM

I've learned that people are capable of having the same argument over and over again. I've learned that people are sensitive. I've learned that people can misconstrue someone's personality as something sinister.

First, I've learned that we CANNOT all get along, and we do not want to.

moe.ron 03-19-2005 03:46 AM

I've learned that if somebody posts a lot of comments on a particular thread, he really doesn't care about it.

Kevin 03-19-2005 01:49 PM

I've learned that people will sometimes go to great lengths to find something in someone else's words that offends them.

BetteDavisEyes 03-19-2005 02:14 PM

I've learned that not everyone here will like you. I've learned that sometimes people will hate your guts despite never having met you just b/c they don't like what you have posted or commented. I've also learned that some members of GC will always hold against you mistakes you've made in the past.
Finally, I've learned that there are also those whose opinions I value & they are truly wonderful people. :)

moe.ron 03-19-2005 02:27 PM

I've learned that people take the internet way too seriously. Only people that offend me are spammers.

Agreed, but would add that they will hate your organization as a whole and/or call you a poor example of said organization -- that's definitely a classic pattern on GC ;)

PhiPsiRuss 03-19-2005 02:47 PM

I've learned that a lot of people only care about morality when it benefits their world view.

WCUgirl 03-19-2005 03:19 PM

I've learned that people need to watch this video before posting on the internet.

that some people are self-centered and pompous and always think it's about them.

hoosier 03-19-2005 04:08 PM

The GC people are not the ones hazing and killing pledges.

It does appear, though, that the GC people type with one hand and have a cold one in the other hand.

Very true & funny too!

Munchkin03 03-20-2005 02:40 PM

That some people take an internet title of "authority" WAY TOO FAR.

I've learned that my ASA chapter is not the only one who's full of witty women who are quotable on a daily basis.

to wit: "Crack kills, please note"

I HEART YOU JESS!!!

WHOA! You read my mind.

KSigkid 03-21-2005 11:55 AM

I've learned that people take the internet too seriously, and as Munchkin said, take their "authority" too far.

I've learned that someone can say over and over again they don't care, but they really do.

I've learned that there are some people on all sides who are too sensitive and too critical.

I've learned that UConn was overrated this year (sorry, can't stop thinking about the loss yesterday).

Especially if it's self-conferred.

Rudey 03-21-2005 01:08 PM

I've learned that Kazo and all the other "hard", "thug" websites must have issues because there is a lot of annoying people posting here now.

gpb1874 03-21-2005 01:51 PM

people take this a little too seriously at times. it is a chat board - not real life (some concessions if you actually spend quality time with members).;)

members don't like it when someone says something that appears to have been brought up before. get over it.....new people happen!

Not true, there's just encouraging of searching for topics that have been covered before. I know some places do not like old threads being brought up but this isn't one of them. It's a trying to save bandwidth thing :)

Plus, there are some topics (like psycho ministers who think all Greeks are evil) that it's easier to just nip in the bud before they get going.

understandable. i've just seen instances where it appears the responder (who has been here a while) is very frustrated, in an "OMG, we have been here so many times before.....go do a freakin' search." being nice about it is the key, just as you have modeled.

that and

I've learned that Cincinnati will never advanced beyond the first round as long as Bob Huggins remains as coach.

FSUZeta 03-22-2005 11:17 AM

i have learned that i must live in a very insulated world. i thought we all got along better than what has been represented in the past few days on greekchat.

i have learned that there are people out there with HUGE chips on their shoulders who try to provoke confrontation instead of contributing to meaningful dialogue so that we can better understand and appreciate our similarities and our differences and it really disheartens me.

if we are all going to get along in this world, we have to get along.

This is a colorblind society and GC is a safe haven for egalitarian values.

:D

I've learned that A.B. was "not banned" on GC and that she just couldn't log in under her original account. lol

I've learned that there are two types of people in this world.

Those who seek an understanding and thereby promote tolerance.

Those who don't WANT to understand and will always remain toxic.

Oft times those truly seeking tolerance are the ones persecuted because they ask the tough questions that the toxic folks don't care enough to ask about.

Drama, especially on the net, is simply your perception of a tone.

Ignorance can be eradicated through education and toxic behaviors can be ignored.

In any situation where, "Drama" can manifest you have a choice.

To be toxic or tolerant.
