Extension opportunties

Instead of doing announcements for individual schools, I thought that I would make one thread and update it. I will make a thread for an individual school when it is appropriate. Just trying to simplify my life. ;)

aopirose 03-18-2005 02:14 PM

AOII has been invited to present at the University of South Carolina Aiken! Two other groups are presenting as well and they both have a very strong presence in SC. I won't name them but if you are dying to know PM me. The presentations begin next week but we go in April.

OleMissGlitter 03-19-2005 02:51 PM

Great news! GO AOII!

carnation 03-19-2005 02:56 PM

carnation 03-19-2005 07:18 PM

Good luck!!!

In case anyone was interested, Marquette currently has:
Alpha Chi Omega (1989)
Alpha Phi (1989)
Alpha Xi Delta (1990)
Pi Beta Phi (1990)

It has lost:
Theta Phi Alpha (1941-1969)
Phi Mu (1964-1973)
Alpha Delta Pi (1965-1984)
Sigma Sigma Sigma (1969-1985)
Gamma Phi Beta (1991-?)

Is this a tough campus for Greeks? Tons of kids - and I mean probably 1/3 - from my high school typically go on to Marquette. I went to a Catholic HS in the Chicago suburbs. Kids who had good grades but not good enough for Notre Dame, Northwestern, or Illinois flocked there. I think they liked that it was Catholic, close to home but still out-of-state, and a good school. I never really heard of any of them going Greek though.

aopirose 11-29-2005 07:01 PM

Shala, clean out your box woman!

I thought that was St. Norbert College?! LOL (by the way, SNC is where I did 3 years of undergrad and there were MANY students from Chicago!)

My cousin is actually a sophomore at Marquette - and her oldest brother is a Triangle alumnus from Marquette. . . . . aopirose, keep me updated and I MAY be able to get her interested - or at least interested enough to attend an informational session! Would this be a colonization from the ground up or from an interest group?

Marquette was also where Kappa Beta Gamma Sorority was founded (which is a non-NPC national sorority mostly found in the Midwest).

Sarah

aopirose 11-30-2005 12:59 PM

I believe that it would be a ground up endeavor. I wish the best of luck to whichever group is selected.

BetteDavisEyes 12-05-2005 01:02 AM

We're presenting at Marquette this week too!

Good-luck to you guys! I'm sure your presentation was amazing & I know you guys impressed everyone there.

aopirose 12-18-2005 01:20 PM

Well, we didn't get Marquette. Good luck to the sorority chosen! (I know who it is and I think that they will do great.)

OleMissGlitter 12-18-2005 05:18 PM

That's okay...more time to focus on Aiken and upcoming Arkansas!

grapemachine 12-30-2005 02:26 PM

FYI- Several girls from Lambda Sigma went to Aiken to help with Recruitment. All of the new girls are high quality. Should make for a strong chapter!

Also, the girls from Aiken will be joining Lambda Sigma for Founder's Day Dinner on Jan. 23rd! Allison Allgier, Vice President of Development at AOII Headquarters, will be our guest speaker. We're all really excited!

irishpipes 02-03-2006 12:03 PM

aopirose, what are you talking about? Are we presenting somewhere today?

irishpipes 02-03-2006 12:22 PM

Since you are in the know... Do you know why the NPC site doesn't list the schools that are open for expansion? It seems that would alert local alumnae who could express interest to their respective GLOs. I mean, that isn't confidential, right? I understand not publicizing who is presenting or who is chosen until the groups want that information out, but I don't understand if a bulletin goes out to a bunch of people anyway, why that info can't be more available. I know you don't work for the NPC, but I was just wondering.

That's probably why.

The equivalent of "dirty rushing" could occur, only on a much larger level.

aopirose 02-03-2006 01:08 PM

irishpipes, I hear what you are saying and you're right. The schools that are open are not really a secret. I also agree with 33 that a reason they may not post it is due to "extra helpful" alumnae. These ladies are usually well meaning but their actions can be misconstrued and do a lot of harm.

As far as alerting area alumnae, that happens two-fold. The first is where there is an alumnae panhellenic association. Expansion at the local university is a very hot topic. These ladies know that something is in the works and everyone just waits for the word. The other way is that once a shool is officially open, interested eligible groups start working thier local network.

Stacekat 02-16-2006 02:57 PM

AOII is presenting at University of La Verne at the end of the month. This is so exciting since we only have 2 so cal chapters (three if you count Cal Poly SLO)!!! I'm not sure how La Vernes Greek system works. I'm going to look into it. Gosh, I just resigned as Chapter Adviser for Long Beach...now I feel like I'm going to get roped into something else :)

irishpipes 02-16-2006 03:20 PM

Stacekat-
Where in Southern Cal is LaVerne?

OleMissGlitter 02-16-2006 04:44 PM

La Verne currently has 3 groups:

The three member chapters of the College Panhellenic Association are:
Iota Delta--local I'm guessing, Alpha Chapter
Phi Sigma Sigma--Theta Upsilon Chapter
Sigma Kappa--Theta Beta Chapter

Stacekat 02-16-2006 09:11 PM

La Verne is near Pomona, about 1/2 hour north of Anaheim. It's about a 45 minute drive from the CSU Long Beach Chapter and about 30-40 minute drive from the CSU Northridge Campus. We have AOII collegiate chapters at both of those schools. There are 9 local Alumnae Chapters but only 3 that are really close. I'll be going to thier info reception on the 27th (I think) of this month. I'll let you know how it goes!!!

aopirose 02-17-2006 01:22 PM

Have fun, Stacekat! We are very excited about this opportunity.

Best wishes to the Presentation Teams on ALL upcoming presentations!

Morag 02-28-2006 07:28 PM

So ... How did the presentation go at La Verne?

Stacekat 02-28-2006 08:05 PM

Well, I went to the dinner reception that the presentation team put together to gather alumnae interest. The alum interest in the area is good and I definately think there are enough people to make a colonization work. Plus we have the added bonus of having 2 collegiate chapters fairly local to support activities. The presentation team was doing the actual presentation this morning. They said they would send out more info as soon as they knew. They were really excited to have another CA chapter!

The other organization that is presenting is Phi Mu. We don't know when they are presenting. The campus is looking to colonize next fall. La Verne's formal recruitment is in the spring, and the campus has a list of women who would like to join a sorority. It is going to be a really exciting time.

The greek adviser poked his head in at the end of the event just to say hi to our presentation team. I'm sure he got all of my "CHOOSE US" vibes :)

AOII to Colonize a New Chapter at University of La Verne

What a wonderful job ladies!

Alpha Omicron Pi is pleased to announce that the Fraternity has been invited to colonize a new chapter at the University of La Verne. The university, located in southern California, opened for extension this spring. AOII was selected to present with Phi Mu for the invitation in late February.

Founded in 1891, ULV promotes values of community service, lifelong learning and diversity. The university has an undergraduate student enrollment of over 1,400 and offers 88 bachelors and masters degrees, along with four doctorates within four major colleges and one school. Currently, there are two NPC organizations on campus—Phi Sigma Sigma and Sigma Kappa and one local group – Iota Delta. More information about ULV is available through their website at www.ulv.edu.

Colonization of the chapter is slated for late October or early November 2006. More information regarding the colonization process is forthcoming.

AOIIalum 03-25-2006 08:11 PM

Congrats to everyone involved and welcome to the University of La Verne.
