Greek Members Serving in Our Military?
 

How many and who of us have Brothers and Sisters Serving in Battle Zones?:confused:

We as My Chapter got a Brother Back, but have 2 over in Iraq.

Luckly, they got together for a brief Moment. Sent Pictures of them together!:cool:

Well off hand I don't know of sisters in the battle zones but we do have a WONDERFUL sister serving in Germany. (Love ya Heidi!!!!!!!!)

I actually wouldn't be surprised if we had sisters over in Iraq, mainly because a couple years ago ADPi did an article about sisters serving in the military and let's face it, TONS, of troops have been activated.

If I do have a sister over there, my heart, thoughts and prayers go out to her along with all the other men and women serving (and mostly my brother).

There was an article published in The Trident about sisters who were fighting over seas. It was published before I joined Tri Delta, but from my understanding we have quite a few sisters in the military.

I live on a military installation and was pleasantly surprised to find out there are many, many Sorority women who are military wives - Please remember that as one spouse may be serving in a combat zone, there are others left behind to "hold the other front".

Short Story #1: My husband was stationed in Germany and one day I was walking down the street and who would appear but the Panhellenic president when I was in college! She also married a military man!

Short Story #2: One day I was at another function and we began talking about sororities and it happened that three of the ladies were all initiated into the same one and never knew it (sorry, forgot which one).

Short Story #3: I saw a lady with a crest necklace on one day and we started chatting. That little chat led us to begin creating a military post/base Alumnae Panhellenic - especially since it is difficult to find many alum from just one Sisterhood to form a single alum group.

The moral of these stories is that no matter where you are or how much time goes by, you will never forget the bonds of Sisterhood!

One of my close friends, Dave, a TKE in my boyfriend's chapter, is currently serving overseas as an EOD technician. We worry about him a lot, but he calls frequently, so it makes us feel a little better. :(

My husband is a KA. They had an announcement in their Brigade newsletter about a meeting to take a picture of all of the KAs serving as a part of the 256th Brigade in Iraq. He called me that night so excited about getting to meet the other guys. There were about 20 of them in the 5,000 man brigade. His roommate is a member of his chapter (Delta Xi) and he has 2 other friends serving in other companies there as well. He said it was like a reunion. They all sat around sharing stories of their active times in college.

I just found the picture in a newsletter sent to families. There were only 12 of them. I wish I could post it, but it is a part of an acrobat file. I don't know how to do it.

I know there are quite a few Kappa Sigs that are serving overseas. There is also a ZBT who I went to school with and knew fairly well who is overseas as we speak.

My thoughts are with all of those serving our country and working to make the world a better place.

Alpha Gamma Delta published a nice article in The Quarterly about our sisters who are fighting over seas as well. It was such a nice article and I feel honored to have them as my sisters.

My best friend's husband is a Phi Gamma Delta, he is over in Iraq.

I know that 4 brothers of Lambda Chi Alpha from the Iota Omicron chapter at East Tennessee State University are back safely from Iraq but they have another ( or one of the original 4) is heading back over there soon.

We have two chapter sisters (both are Founders) that are serving in the Army! We're very proud of them!

When I was deployed in support of the 3rd ID there were a pretty good number of fraternity men forward deployed. I didn't meet any sorority members due to my unit being all male, and we had little contact with units with female members. I am guessing that there are rather a lot currently in country.
Since Greeks tend to take leadership positions I expect that the proportion of Greeks to non Greeks is higher in the Army leadership than might be generally thought.

One of the APO Brothers who posts in our forum here was in Iraq, although I think he may be home by now. His name on here is "BlueNGold."

The ADPi chapter at IU had a picture of one of the chapter sisters who was serving in Iraq on their site a couple years ago.

There was a nice article; it had a few profiles of some of the sisters currently serving and had a list of other sisters that chapters sumbitted. There are probably more, because like my chapter slacked and didn't meet the deadline to submit our sister.

My husband spent 14 months in Iraq...he's a Sigma Nu...and he'll probably be going back in about three months.

For me, while in Germany I contacted our EO, and I started a group for DG's that are married to the military or are serving themselves! It's been a great success with about 55 women as members! The EO website has also created a link on the web site to recognize all the known members involved with the war!

All I know of from Bridgewater is two Sigma Pis...One's in Iraq till April 2006, and the other just came back. A bunch of other SPs are in the military, but just not sent over seas yet.

We have one of our sisters in the Navy as well, but I'm not sure about the other GLOs on campus :]

Beta Psi, of Beta Theta Pi (my chapter) used to have about a third or so in various branches of the service. About 25 of us total.

It's down to about 10 or so now with three of the actives just returning from the sevice, 7 as yet to go, and the other 15 or so still there or getting ready to deploy/come back to the states.
