Miss USA 2005

Miss USA is on April 11 and the website has a listing of all the contestants.

The only girls that list their affiliation are:
Miss Arkansas- AST at U of Central Arkansas
Miss North Carolina- DZ at UNC Charlotte
Miss South Dakota- KAQ at U of South Dakota

Miss Hawaii says she was in a sorority at Loyola Marymount but doesn't list which one.

Jennifer Fairbank, Miss Hawaii USA 2005, is a Delta Gamma alumna from Loyola Marymount University.

Jill1228 03-16-2005 04:11 PM

Miss Colorado is a member of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Inc

ETA: I am guessing Miss Kentucky (who went to UK) is a member of Theta.

Miss Florida USA is a Tri Delt.
Miss Idaho USA is a Sigma Epsilon (a local sorority).
Miss Illinois USA is a Pi Phi. (She also does volunteer work with the University of Iowa Dance Marathon! -- insert your own joke here.)
Miss Kentucky USA is a Theta.
Miss Mississippi USA is a Tri Delt.
Miss Texas USA is a Tri Delt (I think).
Miss Wyoming USA is a Kappa.

I'm so excited to see an AST in Miss USA again this year.

Last year Jennifer Sherrill who's an AST was Miss Photogenic.

texas*princess 03-16-2005 07:00 PM

gamma_girl52 03-16-2005 07:01 PM

Are the contestants listed the current ones? If so I gotta give it up for my state, Georgia. She is beautiful!!

Jen and I go way back to high school together.

She was somewhat active with Panhellenic of Hawaii after she graduated from LMU and moved back home, but she kinda fell off the face of the earth once she started getting into the pageant circuit. That and she became the spokesmodel for Ala Moana Center -- the largest outdoor mall in the country.

She came in 1st runner up at the Miss Hawaii (MAO) Pageant two years ago. The winner that year, Kanoelani Gibson went on to be 1st runner up to Erika Dunlap that year.

I'm sure Jen's a great sister to the DGs, but everytime I see her walking toward me I walk the other way. She's just not one of my favorite people.

Oh well. Can't get along with all of them, I guess.

Eh, it's not that big of a place. :p

Nah, it's because I volunteer with the Miss West Oahu/Honolulu/Leeward Pageant -- a prelim to Miss Hawaii. Girls like Jen usually start out with us and then they "cross over" to Miss Hawaii USA once their eligibility is almost up. Brook Lee did it in 1997 and she ended up winning Miss USA and Miss Universe. :)

Fun! I lived in Lexington for a while, and I just found out some of my friends from high school are Theta's with her there at UK.

*shrug*

All it does is perpetuate stereotypes that if you're not beautiful you're not worth shit and leads to the further development of low self-esteem and eating disorders of the 90-some percent of the population that does not meet these ideals of beauty.
So sorry if I can't tell one bimbo-competition from another.

LOL, whatever.

But to answer your question, the Miss America pageant is held in September.

I remember reading somewhere not too long ago that Donald Trump's expressed interest in buying the struggling Miss America program.

If I recall correctly, no network's picked up the pageant yet since ABC dropped it.

IMO, both the Miss America and Miss USA pageants have been boring in recent years.

More contestants should perform baton twirling as their talent! They get extra points if the ends are on fire!

Back when I was in school, a Tri-Sig did a fire baton twirling routine in Greek Week's Talent Show. It was awesome!!!

Anyway, I love that so many Greeks are making a positive impact by volunteering and stuff (required by the pagents, I think). I find it helps make us all look more positive - as we are. Positive publicity is the best publicity!

And, finally - rock on that there's another AST!!!! Woooo Hooooo!

I haven't heard that...what I heard was that they were going to make the Miss America pageant a type of reality tv show. They would go behind the stage, at the preliminary contests and everything to show the "true" side of the pageant. That is what they are thinking of doing for this up coming Miss America.

But I agree, the pageants are boring, they tried to get more "show" type...and it just sucks.

Ahh, another MAO volunteer! Nice to see you. I'm with the Miss Louisiana organization; I'm the webmaster there.

Nice to meet you!

LOL, I got suckered into it because a friend of mine was a past contestant that became really close friends with the pageant directors. She knew that I'd come in handy securing rehearsal and show locations and after that I never really left. :)

This is the article I read about Donald Trump:
Trump wooing Miss America Pageant

alphaalpha 03-29-2005 01:04 AM

okay, so i love the miss america pageant and had heard from a source that i can not speak to the reliability on, but the "low" ratings from the Miss America pagean receaved was still the highest ratings for the time slot.

But it is nice to see all these greek women competing.

and Miss America is great cause it is free to enter and the winner receives scholarships to continue her education. There might be some perpetuation of stereotypes, but at the same time you can not same anything too bad about a women using some abilities to fund their education.

Make it more like American Idol: have the studio audience and/or television audience vote for who they like or vote off the losers.

Add a nudity/pole-dance competition.

Jhawkalum 04-03-2005 09:29 PM

Miss Iowa is an ADPi -- correct me if I'm wrong.

Girlies,
Have you been watching Miss Congeniality as much as I have? ;) LOL.

Edit:

Iowa is not an ADPi I checked her name.

And with AZ can someone please explain to me how someone who didn't go to high school in AZ, didn't go to college in AZ and didn't do her post-bac work in AZ became Miss AZ? Oh and she's working on her PhD, which means that she probably isn't even living here!!!!!!!! I seriously don't get this.

We had a big scandal about this several years ago, some Jersey woman was taking one class - something on the line of Beginner's Basket Weaving - and won Miss Philadelphia, etc.

Just think, if they could get Sandra Bullock to do a cameo, or even that goofy Miss Rhode Island, that could really boost the ratings!

I'm assuming that we're "all" going to watch while online, wearing our tiaras and sipping pink drinks between comments?

Totally there, putting on my tiara.

William Shatner: Describe your idea of a perfect date
Rhode Island: Oh that's a tough one...I'd have to say April 26, it's not to hot, not to cold all you need is a light jacket.

LMAO (although I'm not sure if I got the date right, it's either the 25 or the 26 that she says in the movie)

As for Miss AZ, I told my dad and the only thing he could think of was that she was born here. Although as far as I'm concerned that doesn't deserve to make her Miss Arizona. I'm sorry, IMPO, these winners should be LIVING in the state they are representing!!!!!!!!!!!

According to this website , the date stated was April 23rd. I haven't seen the movie in a while (and I want to go see the 2nd one sometime soon! :D), but that sounds right :)

With two weeks until the pageant, I was practicing my talent, finishing my costume, brushing up on current events, and running 18 miles a day on about 400 calories. I was ready.

American Teen Princesses do not cross their legs like street walkers. Excuse me, Miss Penthouse '98, put your knees together, I could drive a boat show in there.

Next time you might want to put quotes on it or something :)

That was a great movie. I love Kirstie Alley.

This may have been said already....

Miss Florida is a Tri Delt from U of Florida. She's from my area of Florida. :-) There is an interesting article on here here.

She's very cute! :-)

Jeff, Jennifer is your sister? You must be very proud. I know USM and Phi Epsilon are very proud. I knew she had an older brother/sister and a younger brother. However, I never realized her older brother was old enough to have a son in college. (I am by no means saying you are old... I was an alum of several years before Jennifer even went through rush!). Again, congrats to you and your family. I know all of Mississippi will be cheering for her on April 11th.

No disrespect to my lovely Delta Gammas, but I really hope Jen (Miss Hawaii USA) trips on her heels or rips her dress so I can laugh my ass off. Maybe then she'll learn how to get off her high horse.

I really really really really don't like her.

anyone watching?

7 of the top 15 are greek...

can anyone else believe that raj from the apprentice 2 is a "celebrity" judge?
