any1 going to the SEC, or other NCAA tournaments?

Hey college sport fans! I'm going down to ATL for the SEC to watch my Cats play! Anyone going to be there?

Or is anyone else traveling this spring to see their team play?

Just curious? :)

KSigkid 03-09-2005 02:53 PM

I would love to see UConn if they end up playing in Worcester (depending on what bracket they get for the tourney). However, I don't think it's going to happen.

greeklawgirl 03-09-2005 03:03 PM

The Pac-10 Tournament is starting at the Staples Center tomorrow and that's only about a minute's car ride from where I work, so normally I would be all over the chance to see my Arizona Wildcats in action.

Unfortunately, I'll be in Santa Monica for a conference for the next 2 days. I'll try to get tickets if they get into the final on Saturday.

BEAR DOWN! :D

Lil' Hannah 03-09-2005 03:15 PM

I may be going to the ACC tournament this weekend. It just depends on who my friend decides to take with her.

Sister Havana 03-09-2005 03:27 PM

I would love to see the Big Ten Tournament since it is in Chicago this year. Unfortunately that won't be happening. Oh well.

GO IU!

AOIIalum 03-09-2005 04:39 PM

Daisy--have FUN in Catlanta!!!!

We're planning to be at the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games in Syracuse, with fingers crossed to the NCAA gods that we get the teams we selfishly want there.

bluefish81 03-09-2005 07:54 PM

I'm heading to Kansas City for the Big XII tourney to cheer for my Cyclones!

ZTABullwinkle 03-09-2005 08:43 PM

I would LOVE to be at the ACC tourney at the MCI Center in Washington DC. Today they had this rather long article in our sports page about how tickets are distributed. I would post the link, but I can't find it on their website.

It basically said if you wanted tickets through the university, you need to pony up $$$. Since the MCI center seats fewer than the Greensboro Coliseum....tickets are even harder to come by. Thus, you had to give even MORE money for a pair (unlike in past years where you got four.) I think the schools (except for the newest additions to the ACC) got something like 1900 tickets for their boosters, and not in the better seats.

What I would give to be at Duke University as a student....One day I will see Duke-UNC in Cameron. One day...

sigtau305 03-09-2005 09:48 PM

I'd like to go to the Mid-American Conference Tournament here in Cleveland but only if Kent State get to the finals.

I have several friends who are going. A lot of familys and companys around my area are major supporters. Several of my students have told me they will be out on thurs. and fri. Must be nice... I have gone when it was in G'boro several times and it is an experience!

As for the Duke/Carolina match up...I have seen that in Cameron. I am a Wolfpack fan, but a friend(actually former student whos parents had gone out of town and they had season tickets so they asked me to take her) had the tickets and you can not give up that kind of experience. Cameron Indoor is HOTTTTTT and SMALL! Maybe that is why thye are the cameron crazies...you feel like you are going crazy because everyone is on top of each other and about to burn up! Cate is from a family of big time Iron Duke club members. She goes with mom and dad or her grandparents everywhere, including the NCAA to see them play. You can always tell when they are playing because she would check out early. Again, must be nice....

I'll be sitting in VA at mom and dad and watching it on tv.

ZTABullwinkle 03-10-2005 12:02 AM

I'll be in Va. Beach watching the Acc Tournament also. My mother, who graduated from Duke and raised me on proper basketball (sorry Tarheels fans!) is stuck in San Diego, CA. This is the same woman who used to bring a small TV into work with her so she could keep up with the games.

I don't know how she is going to do it. But this is one of the few times work has had her stay over a weekend. At least I know the pillows are safe in her house...:D (she has a habit of chewing on pillows when games get close. Gotta love my mom....)

Ah, so glad it's back in KC where it belongs. :) Have fun!!

I told the huzbin we're going down some year for it.

winnieb 03-10-2005 02:11 AM

My husband will be at the Big 12 Tourney in KC---- he's been in San Antonio for work since mid-January and was sure to book his trip home the weekend of the tourney. He goes every year---regardless of location.

Yeah apparently tickets are given to each school's booster club and then they distribute them to people who "donate" the most to the school/athletic program.

I found out my friend only has 2 tickets, so she's taking her boyfriend :(

We may go hang around outside the MCI center and try to buy tickets off of fans whose team lost.

AWJDZ 03-10-2005 11:23 AM

alrighty, the TV is set up in the gym...in honor of the ACC tourney, we will be playing basketball and cheering on my beloved Wolfpack at 2:00....it is a great day to be a pe teacher. Physical Education at its finest AND we are able to relate it to real world experience. Might intergrate some math skills to find out how far we are down by and what we need to shoot to get the lead back.

best place to scalp around MCI is by the F Street entrance....by the escalators near the metro, don't do it near the Press entrance..you'll get caught....

<3, from a DC-er :)

Daisy...you still passing through Knox?

HotDamnImAPhiMu 03-10-2005 04:20 PM

Oooh, the radio guy I've seen a couple times is there working. (Highly inconvenient, actually. Damn tournament messing with my dinner plans.)

He's cute. His voice sounds cute, too.

ZTABullwinkle 03-10-2005 04:43 PM

Oh how the mighty have fallen!

Maryland lost in the first round of the ACC! Yee-haw! At least Duke won't worry about them anymore.

Can't believe that Boston College lost in their first round also. They were a pick for a first place seed in the NCAA.

AWJDZ 03-10-2005 04:58 PM

it was a great day at school today...but soccer practice is interfering with the State game....

I cannot tell you how happy I am BC lost. Have fun next year in the ACC boys!

Although, I was looking forward to UConn being able to beat BC in the final.

I couldn't think of a more fitting way for BC to exit the Big East, with the exception of Pitt beating them :)

My boys have a tough draw against Villanova... hope they pick up the pace. Killing me not to watch it!

ZTABullwinkle 03-10-2005 07:04 PM

Villanova is always tough when it comes to the NCAA tourney.

I wish Boston College WASN'T joining the ACC. It defeats the name of the conference.

This really is one of the best times of the year. At least I don't have the NHL to conflict with any games in the tourney.

ZTABullwinkle 03-11-2005 12:09 AM

Just when you thought the impossible had happened (Illinois losing last weekend, Maryland losing today, etc)...Virginia beat Miami. I guess Coach Gillen is going to keep his job a little longer. They play Duke tomorrow. Hopefully I can get to the bar before end of first half, have an Admirals' hockey game to go to first.

PS - My mom found a bar across from her hotel in California to watch the ACC tournament. So, she is set for the weekend. :p

JupiterTC 03-11-2005 12:36 AM

I went to the Southern Conference tournament last week with the band. UT-Chattanooga won the tournament this past Saturday, but we went home Thursday night  .

My dad was a cheerleader at Carolina, and was there when the Tar Heels won the NCAA championship in 1982 (Michael Jordan's freshmen year). Needless to say, I was raised a Tar Heel fan, so I'll be cheering for them during the tournament.

Kevin 03-11-2005 01:05 PM

I live about 4-5 blocks away from the OKC Arena. I may walk down there and see what kinds of prices scalpers are offering.. I doubt there's any seating left inside though.

Last time I checked, Massachusets does in fact have a coast which does in fact touch the Atlantic.

Yeah I'll be a little more blunt - I heard smart people like visuals, so here's an overhead view of the city of Boston itself:

The blue stuff is the Atlantic Ocean.

Hey, there's my apartment!

ZTABullwinkle 03-11-2005 02:16 PM

I understand that Mass. (please don't ask me to try and spell it right now) does have a coastline with the Atlantic. But I grew up identifying it as the conference for Virginia, North and South Carolinas, Georgia. I could deal with the teams from Florida joining - Florida State in ???? and Miami this year. It just seems strange that all the teams are in the Southeast, then you have Boston College. That is what bugs me.

As for UNC, once we get into the NCAA tournament, that will be the only time I cheer for them. I root for the whole ACC, as long as they aren't playing Duke. I think the Selection Committee does a good job of spreading out the teams from the same conference so you get to see a lot of interconference play.

Jill1228 03-11-2005 02:49 PM

I knew I liked you for some reason! :D I love my Blue Devils. I live for the ACC tourney, even though I am now on the West Coast

(this is one of the times I miss living in VA Beach or the Northern VA area)

don't fret...My mom is on the west coast, but still is able to catch the games. I am getting worried though. The big teams are struggling this tournament.

Where in Va. Beach did you live? What high school did you go to?

Jill1228 03-12-2005 12:47 AM

I lived in Windsor Oaks West (my mom and rest of the family are still there). Princess Anne HS Grad :)

I would kill to see a Tourney. I saw one a few years ago in Richmond

Okay, I know where Windsor Oaks is! I grew up in Stratford Chase (Kempsvlle), then my parents did the unspeakable and moved me to Cox High school district.

I too would LOVE to see an ACC tourney. I have been in both Greensboror Coliseum and the MCI Center. But I am sure it is VERY different than when hockey is played there.

How about those Blue Devils?!?! :D A little too close for comfort from UVA, but hey we are in the quaterfinals. Tomorrow could prove VERY interesting!

Hope everyone's team is doing well in their conference. I already have one team in the NCAA (ODU)....now for the Blue Devils.
