Is this an old AST badge on ebay?
|
Well, it does have a border of pearls with rubies at the corners, and I know that there are badges with that, I believe it's for if you're national president or something...I'm not positive on that though. Altho the shape is all wrong...It is gorgeous though!
|
Thanks for the insight on the badge. I am not sure of the authenticity. I have forwarded a message on to National Council to look into it :) We don't want to be bidding against each other, thus raising the price of the badge. Have a TAUriffic day!
|
FYI- I am the highest bidder, I have gotten some people saying it is an AST badge and some say it isn't, if it turns out it isn't an AST badge, I will be sending it to the organization's it is.
So we will know on sunday if I won it |
I looked at this too and am baffled... what is under the scroll? It looks like a gold square or something... let us know mm.
|
I am waiting on a replie from the seller. I asked her where she got the pin, if there are any engravings (like intials) on the back and what is under the scroll.
I guess we will see. I am proud though that AST pins are the hardest pins to find apparently, or thats what all the pin collectors I have talked to, have said. |
From everything that I know, it is NOT an AST sorority badge. I've see the archives at HQ, and there isn't any mention of something similar in the history (at least what I saw).
It very well could be an Alpha Sigma Tau FRATERNITY badge. Yep...you heard me. There is a local fraternity (can't remember where cause it's been over a year that I've talked about this) somewhere that is called Alpha Sigma Tau. I'd still buy it though, just cause it looks cool!! PsychTau |
This is her response to me:
i don't remember for sure..but i think it came from an estate i bought 3 or 4 years ago. if that is true...then it belonged to Dorothy Loyd (married name). she had a business in town, also worked at juvinile center and was also an auditor in vigo county indiana. again, i can't swear that is where it came from...but most likely. no engravings on back. the thing under the scroll appears to maybe be a book with 2 fine lines on both sides? no idea what any of it means. So who knows? I tried look up AST fraternity but couldn't find anything. I guess we will see, if I win it. |
She just e-mailed me back, it is from the estate she was talking about. The lady was in her 80-90s when she died. So who knows, this could be one of our pins, and its just extremely old.
I am curious now, I would love to find or figure out the history of the pin. |
National Council is looking into it's authenticity. They contacted me today. However it appears that this probably isn't one of our badges but they are still investigating. I will pass on the info of where it was obtained to them.
Have a TAUriffic Day! |

PsychTau2, I think you are right. This is a FRATERNITY badge, not one of our Sisterhood ones. Very weird.
HQ looked into the database and did not find anyone with that name. However this could be because it is a married name, not the maiden one. But chances are this is not ours. |
Does anyone know if the fraternity still exists? Because if I win it, I would love to return it to them, but if it no longer exists, I'll keep it, I guess.
FYI- The library in Texas is mailing me the copy of AD bruce's speech he gave to the Alpha Sigma Tau fraternity. This has been really interesting looking up things about this pin, Its definately interesting, espically that there was an AST fraternity at Michigan Normal College, too. |
Wow I went out of town when something interesting actually happened.
did you win the badge? |
I did win it, payed a lot more than i wanted to, but a pin collector who was bidding against me sent me a message, that annoyed me, so I had to make sure the pin collector didn't get the pin.
As of right now I will keep the pin, but I am researching still and would love to return it to a member of the fraternity, because I think thats where it belongs, in the hands of one of the members, but we will see if I can find anyone to return it to. |
YAY!! I'm glad you won it!! Keep me posted on your research...I'll help you poke around when I can. I love the history of Greek orgs, etc.

New pin!
There is a gorgeous AST badge from 1940 for sale.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW http://tinypic.com/5ed3li PS - When this happens, does Nationals buy badges back? I know some sororities do this (I believe KKG does). Just wondering what happens to our badges. |
ohhhh I want it
|
Oh it's gone! Hopefully someone here got it. I woulda loved to bid on it. Oh well.
|
This is a pin collector who won it...sorry to say. I have received emails from her in the past having Alpha Xi Delta badges that I could buy from her. I know most pin collectors are greek though...I don't know what her affiliation is.
|
Im new to this forum and that was very interesting reading about that pin. I was really entertained with all the news. :)
|
I didn't know there was a seperate AST Fraternity at EMU, even way back when, and I think the original charter of the Alpha Chapter has fraternity written on it, before the Alpha chapter was recharted in the 1980's.Is there another Alpha sister that can go to the Halle Library and look through the old yearbooks they have on display to see if there was a seperate local fraternity?

There was a seperate local fraternity. I didn't keep all the research and info I had on it. But there were several pictures I found, along with the names of all the brothers, so it wasn't the Alpha chapter, but indeed a fraternity pin.
