the oscars

who else is watching? I am really excited about it. I doubt any one moive will sweep like LOTR:ROTK did, but would be interesting if Jamie Foxx won both categories. Has that ever happened before?

The1calledTKE 02-27-2005 10:42 PM

I like the Chris Rock Bush bashing. That was good for a laugh.

smiley21 02-27-2005 10:43 PM

this new format is awful. All of the nominees for each smaller category stand on the stage while their award is being called. Who in the world wants to stand on the stage when they are loosing? How embarassing.

They even are pratically hand delivering some of the awards. That is just odd.

Why did they change the format?

ASUADPi 02-27-2005 11:34 PM

I think we have got another sweep on our hands. So far The Aviator has won EVERY award they have been nominated for.

I have to admit this whole one movie sweeping the awards thing has really GOTTA STOP!!!!!!!

I may like the movie that gets nominated but it is throughly annoying. I love ROTK but I hated that it kept sweeping last year, especially when I felt in some categories other movies were "more qualified" to win than it was.

I know that in the categories other than best actor/actress and picture they have "experts" in the categories vote but let's face it the people are still going to be biased towards movies and actors they like.

I am now feeling that sweeping the academy awards isn't something you should really be proud of. I would be happy on won hand that I won all these awards but then again on the other hand I would be thinking "did I really deserve this?" You know what I mean.

I'm not sure what I think about the new format.

But what is up with the auditorium being halfway empty?!? I have never watched the academy awards and seen the seats practically all empty. That is what the seat fillers are for. They just close uped on the balcony and it was practically empty.

Ratings, m'dear... ratings...! :D They're looking for some new fangled way or other to keep the annual lovefest running on time and not going stale.

Screw the rest of the nominees... I'm rooting for the musical director - Bill Conti, who is a graduate from my high school (North Miami Senior High (Florida), Class of 1959). :D

ms_gwyn 02-27-2005 11:36 PM

I didn't even know it was on  ....what I mean I thought it would start around 7:00 pacific.....anyway

I just saw the winner's list and I found out that Morgan Freeman won for best supporting actor...which is a good thing, but that leads me to believe that jamie fox will not winner best actor.....I person think he did a better job in collateral.... so I guess we will see.

Optimist Prime 02-27-2005 11:38 PM

I'm surprized that I [heart] Huckabees wasn't nominated. I liked their editing and visual effects.

LMAO @ Chris Rock reading for Catherine Zeta Jones hahaha

Oscar night starts promptly at 5:30 PM Pacific time to make it within the prime time schedule. Following the ceremony is the Governor's Ball banquet. (In early days, the Oscars were much like the Golden Globes, where you were served dinner first, then the awards.)

GeoffZ 02-27-2005 11:41 PM

I noticed alot of empty seats too. Nobody wanted to come to the Oscars this year? The new format with the nominees standing on stage together is supposed to save time.

No surprises yet with the acting awards. Everyone said Morgan Freeman and Cat Blanchett would win.

I was LMAO at Chris Rock's Bush/Gap joke.

I'm surprised that Beyonce could sing so well in french.

honeychile 02-27-2005 11:41 PM

Okay, they've completely lost me now.

When Before Sunset doesn't win, the rest is self-congratulatory bs.

That was hysterical!!!!!!!!

Oh the academy awards is being dedicated to my brother (he is serving overseas in Kuwait right now). Woo Hoo. I should let him know.

I think Chris Rock as the host is actually pretty good.

Honey, I feel ya with Before Sunset. I loved Before Sunrise and was so excited when they finally did the sequel. I loved the sequel.

In a totally romantic weekend, mr. honeychile & I saw Before Sunrise one night, and Before Sunset the next. This set the scene for a wonderful weekend!!

But, in all honesty, my feelings that it should have won go beyond that - the script was genius!

I know, I really just forgot....i've been in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel (where they used to be held) and the Kodak Theather is across the street.

I probably could have worked at the awards if I tried really hard....no desire, too crazy down there.

It is no picnic driving around the Shrine (and now) Staples Center during the grammy's. The Academy Awards is in a worse location..traffic wise.

Back on topic.....that is just too strange to have all the nominee's on stage.

mmcat 02-28-2005 12:01 AM

they are trying to keep it tight....
beyonce got a second nominated song...hmmm.
she looks better than she did for the french song.

ASUADPi 02-28-2005 12:04 AM

Okay why the heck is Beyonce singing the nominated song from Phantom?!?!?

Am I the only one who finds Beyonce singing this song disturbing?

The least they could do is get Minnie Driver, since HELLO she sang the song for the movie in the FIRST PLACE!!!!!

Beyonce singing this song just made me NOT want it to win!!!!!!!

OMG it was HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! IMPO!!!!!!!!

She just made me hate that song and I LOVED that song.

Mind you this is strictly my opinion.

Tippiechick 02-28-2005 12:17 AM

Crap... It looks like crap this year.
And, Beyonce', do you think you could cake on anymore eyeshadow during the Phantom song? You went beyond the Audrey look there.

ASUADPi 02-28-2005 12:27 AM

Amen Tippiechick!!!

BTW I love your signature ;)

Woo Hoo The Aviator lost an award they were nominated for. That means they can't "sweep". He he.

Tippiechick 02-28-2005 12:29 AM

Thanks ASUADPi.

P.S. I HATE it when one movie sweeps it all. Thank goodness for the surprise winners.

Taualumna 02-28-2005 12:51 AM

Is P.Diddy using his real name now? Chris Rock just introduced him as Sean Coombes

tinydancer 02-28-2005 12:53 AM

Was Beyonce' the only singer available this evening???

ASUADPi 02-28-2005 12:54 AM

Okay, why the heck is Beyonce singing again!!!!!!!!!

I have heard this Josh Groban song nominated and NOT ONCE does a female sing in it!!!!!!!!!

I'm at the point where I need to say "Die Beyonce Die" !!!!!!! LOL.

She just needs to get off the stupid stage!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on Josh Groban is way better than her, please just let him sing HIS SONG without HER!!!!!!

ms_gwyn 02-28-2005 01:01 AM

Prince looked good

:D

honeychile 02-28-2005 01:10 AM

Why do these actresses pay thousands of dollars for a dress, and not bother to get their hair done properly?!?!?!

ms_gwyn 02-28-2005 01:13 AM

YAY for eternal sunshine

ms_gwyn 02-28-2005 01:21 AM

I was really afraid......i am so glad that he won...YAY...but don cheadle is my boy

congrats Jamie Fox

Taualumna 02-28-2005 01:22 AM

YAYYYY Jamie!

WhirlwindTNX 02-28-2005 01:28 AM

I want to shove a fat cream filled doughnut down Gisille's (sp?....oh wait, I don't care) mouth for not standing up as everyone around her was!!

ASUADPi 02-28-2005 01:32 AM

Yeah Clint Eastwood won!!!!!

I'm also glad Hilary Swank won earlier.

I haven't seen Million Dollar Baby yet, but it looks INCREDIBLE!!!!!

WhirldwingTNX: I think Giselle needs a donut shoved down her throat anyways. Eat Girl. Food is our friend. :)

Yeah to Jamie Fox, although I have yet to rent Ray. But it is on my list of things to do.

So I'm still not sure who will win best movie. I have a feeling it will be Million Dollar Baby, just cause usually (and I say usually) the director wins then the movie wins.

Well the best motion picture is about to be stated.

ASUADPi 02-28-2005 01:34 AM

MILLION DOLLAR BABY!!!!!!!

Yeah

honeychile 02-28-2005 01:47 AM

Ugh! We were pulling for Ray, but are happy for Jamie Fox.

I'm busily making a list of movies that I want to see now! Has anyone seen Vera Drake, or at least know what it's about? It looks interesting, but I never heard of it before tonight!

Jill1228 02-28-2005 01:49 AM

YAY to the local homegirl (Hillary Swank--Bellingham, WA)
YAY to Morgan Freeman (it has been a long time coming)
YAY to Clint Wastwood...I always loved him

YAY for JAMIE FOXX! He so deserved it

Tippiechick 02-28-2005 02:12 AM

I don't usually care for Hilary Swank. But, the beginning of her speech made my teary-eyed.

And, did anyone else think Dustin Hoffman was drunk?

Close, but not quite.

It really starts at that time to get the entire thing into Prime Time on the East Coast -- which runs from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM. That also puts it totally in Prime time in the Central Time Zone, which runs from 7:00 to 10:00 PM.

(The fact that it never ends on time notwithstanding)

The show begins before Prime Time in both the Mountain and Pacific time zones.

Are you F-ing joking me? She was AWFUL! Her pronunciation sucked, and she butchered the hell out of that song. I saw the movie this summer in France, and I bought the soundtrack. They should have just let the boys choir sing it like in the movie. She was so bad. I'm surprised they didn't have her butcher the motorcycle diaries song too.

Can you blame him? If I was stuck in an award show for 3 hours plus, I'm going to be intoxicated.

GCrose34 02-28-2005 03:46 AM

Beyonce sang 3 out of the 5 songs to reach out to a younger audience because the ratings have been dropping every year.

Also it is believed that she is going after the role of Effie White in the movie version of the musical Dreamgirls.

BetteDavisEyes 02-28-2005 03:55 AM

Scarlett won for Worst Hair in an Evening.

The new format sucks. I don't are for Chris Rock although there were some entertaining moments. Did not care for the segment that had him interviewing people at the Magic Johnson theatre. He made them look ignorant as a whole when I'm sure there are many people in that theatre who actually saw a worthwhile movie instead of White Chicks.

Sean Penn needs to get a sense of humor. Those Jude Law jokes were just that. Jokes. The guy really needs to get the stick out of his ass if he can't laugh about it.

Kate Winslet wins my Best Dressed award. She looked great.

Minnie Driver only lip-synched her songs in Phantom. She never actually sang any of the words herself b/c she's not a classically trained opera singer.

I'm glad Jamie Foxx's speech was modest & humble. There's nothing worse than a speech that is rehearsed & meaningless. His came from the heart.

Sorry Clive Owen lost b/c he's HOT but am glad Morgan Freeman finally got the recognition he deserved.

Finally, before I step off my high horse, to the jerk-off in the line at Ralph's who kept saying that the only reason Jaime & Morgan won was b/c they were black, he obviously hasn't seen the movies nor is he an educated person. Loser.

Chris Rock have nothing to do with White Chicks. That movie was made by the Wayan brothers.

Oops, didn't realized you were talking about the interviews he made. Sorry about that.
