The Oscars
I'm sitting here watching the Oscar's preshow. I hope that Jamie wins something. It would be nice if he won both the supporting actor and the leading actor but I really doubt that will happen. Everyone has been making such a big deal with Jamie and his nomination that it will be really messed up if he doesn't win. The competition is really tough though, with Leonardo and Million Dollar Baby. I just wish it wasn't so long. They probably won't even give the awards I am waiting for until like 11pm:rolleyes: . Is anyone else out there watching the Oscars?

I really just want to see if Chris Rock will do a great hosting job and if Jamie will definitely win for best actor. The way that Jamie's possibility for winning the Oscar for Best Actor is being hyped up, it seems that LA may face riots if he doesn't win. It would just seem...wrong if he Jamie did not win. As for the red carpet (I didn't watch all of it), I'm liking Halle Berry and Selma Hayek's taste in gowns, and it was great to see Jamie bring his daughter looking like a princess in all white. ETA: Oprah looked lovely, too. (And it's not just because it's a golden gown.) ;) |
Not to mention that when Oprah was being interviewed on the red carpet, she commented on how Color Purple was up for 11 awards and got jack itsh and that she doesn't see that happening to "us" tonight (i.e. Jamie shoudl win something). Don't forget thought that Jamie is agaist Leonardo not MDB. Right? MDB is up for best pic ALONG with Ray and Aviator, no? The big issue is if he wins besta ctor for Ray and best supporting for Collateral. MDB is only a contendor because it is up for best pic, which really doesn't involve Jamie at all (in my opinion). I also think Hillary Swank will win best actress for MDB, which again has nothign to do with Jamie. I see him getting something but def. not both. WHo's he up against in the supporting category?
On a side note, the weather in L.A. was the bomb today. Not hot but absolutely perfect. I just came back from hiking in Palisades and the Oscar buzz "stuff" was definitely in the air. I love L.A. Seriously! |

Oh Wow Jamie :D

Congratulations, Eric Bishop BKA Jamie Foxx. I loved that he brought his little girl as his date to the Oscars. Also glad for Morgan Freeman.
"Let's live this African-American dream. It's beautiful." |
Congrats to Jamie for winning!!! I think if he didn't there might have been a GIANT uproar. I have watched the entire ceremony (a first) and here is my commentary:
1. I loved CR's opening monologue. 2. Congrats to Morgan Freeman. 3. Did we really need Beyonce overkill tonight?? The only highlight of her being there was Jay being there as well. 4. Boo to Sean Penn for "informing" Chris Rock who Jude Law is. Uh, learn to take a joke. |
I'm glad he won. Loved the speech. :)

I'm So Happy
He was up against some stiff competition, but he did something that none of the others did. That was to portray a legend, who everyone knew how he looked like, how he talked, how he walked, etc. Jamie made you believe that he was Ray Charles and that is extraordinary acting.
*Still wiping my tears after his acceptance speech* I am also really happy for Morgan Freeman. |

HC I was driving home from an Alpha Phi event at UBC?
HC the Vancouver, BC news station broadcasted the announcing of the best actor award live (they cut in on the news)? HC I screamed like a fool? (glad I didn't rear end no one) HC folx were probably looking at me like I was nuts! Congrats to Jamie and Morgan. It has been a long time coming for Morgan! :) |

That is all I watched (of the Oscars), and I am satisfied.

HOORAY!!!!
Morgan Freeman was LONG OVERDUE!! :D I, of course, did not watch but I am glad to hear that both Jamie Foxx and Morgan Freeman won. KUDOS!!!! |
I'm glad for Jamie and Morgan. Now it's time for Don Cheadle.
|
I too and very happy that Jamie won.
He certainly deserved it. Maybe I need to see Million Dollar Baby. It must be pretty good. Now to trample on anyone's parade, but it is a shame that Samuel L Jackson hasn't received an award. He should have at least 4 by now. 1. Jungle Fever 2. Time To Kill 3. Pulp Fiction 4. Negotiator |
I wonder since Jamie has won this award, how is this going to affect the scripts that he is given? I wonder if he is going to start taking more serious roles, and trying to develop that side of his acting ability. I mean I don't think that he should go strictly drama and abandon his comedic roots, which helped him to obtain his base audience. I also don't want him to give up stand up, "I Might Need Security" was one of the funniest things that I have ever seen. I guess I just hope that he finds a way to maintain a healthy balance. One example is Halle. She got an Oscar and turned around to do "Cat Woman", which may have just been a BAD career move at the moment, but she is turning around to do "Their Eyes Were Watching God". I guess the main point of all of this randomness is I just hope that Jamie has the good people around him to help guide his career to that next level as far as exploring his acting ability and his depth. I just don't want this to be the last time that we see Jamie at the Oscars, and hopefully it won't be.

^^
I wouldn't mind Jamie continuing to do comedy, but I just don't want him to end up like Cuba Gooding Jr. and taking demeaning, quasi-coon roles. |

Yeah, Cuba is another bad example of someone who won an Oscar and just went down hill from there. He kept getting those stereotypical roles in some dumb movies. I kept saying that he must really need the money to be something like that. |

I watched the last 15 or 20 minutes just to see if Jamie was going to win, and yes I am so glad that he did. Then I realized that Morgan Freeman won for best supporting, so what I want to know now is...did Morgan clean up those teeth of his......horrid, just horrid they are.
I was home yesterday and I watched Oprah just to see the after show from the Oscars. She had Jamie on and Hillary Swank which I do believe that I am going to have to look at Million Dollar Baby and see what this is about. But Jamie was talking about when he saw Oprah at the Oscars she had come up to him and handed him a tissue. So he was saying to himself, why is she giving me a tissue, does she think I'm going to cry or something. So she comes up to him and was like " give me the gum, take the gum out of your mouth" I was cracking up when I heard this. |
I watched the Oscars for the first time and I really enjoyed it. Here are my thoughts ....
1. Chris Rock did a great job. His opening monologue was too funny. 2. I actually enjoyed Beyonce's performances. I think she is extremely talented, but it is often overshadowed by all of the DC drama. I am actually a big fan of her's. 3. I was very happy for Morgan Freeman. I didn't know that this was his first oscar. He is an outstanding actor who has obviously been overlooked. But then there are many overlooked AA actors/actresses on that list (Don Cheadle, Samuel L. Jackson, Angela Basset, etc.) 4. I was sooo happy for Jaime Foxx. I was screaming, but then had to remember that my son was sleep so I settled down. His speech was great. I also thought it was sweet that he brought his daughter as his date. It was even sweeter when he said that she told him "Daddy even if you don't win, you're still good". This is true for so many of our actors. |

Also, I wanted to mention that actors have already signed contracts to do movies while their Oscar worthy movies are being released. Sometimes the timing with their next role is out of their control. Now in the case of Cuba, how can you go from "Boyz N the Hood" to "Snow Dogs?" Even his win for "Jerry Maguire" was a little stereotypical. |

I want to know when the Academy plans to stop overlooking Regina King. |
Timing is everyting
Remember the year before Cuba got his oscar, The NAACP was all over Hollywood for lack of diversity.
Coincidence? Don't let me start. |

Hell, they could have given her a supporting actress for Jerry Maguire for that matter. Cuba wasn't any better than her. You can add Angela Bassett and Lawrence Fishburne to the list for What's Love Got to Do With It... Plus, don't forget Don Cheadle for Devil in a Blue Dress, cause he played the hell out of Mouse. |
