favorite classic soul and R&B songs
It's time to appreciate the classics, and I need some ideas for good classic soul and R&B songs to download. Right now I'm really digging "Rock Steady" by the Whispers. What else is good?

"Reasons", "September" and "Serpentine Fire"by Earth Wind and Fire
"If You Don't Know Me By Now" by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes "Between the Sheets" by the Isley Brothers "Let's Get It On" by Marvin Gaye Also some Teddy Pendegrass and some Maze featuring Frankie Beverly |
It is just way to tough to come up with individual songs having grown up when I did. Instead I tend to think of great groups.
Speaking of that, most of the groups mentioned above are male. How about some of the "girl groups?" The Supremes, The Marvalettes, The Ronettes, The Orlons, Gladys Knight and the Pips (OK, they were mostly male, but the leader is a woman) -- I know I'll think of more, but will leave it here for now. |
Here's mine
Barry White - Never gonna give you up
Isley Brothers - Who's that Lady Ray Parker Jr. - The Other Woman Mass Production - Firecraker Billy Ocean - Carribean Queen Oran "Juice" Jones - In the Rain Keith Sweat - I want her Guy - I wanna get with U Frankie Beverly - I can't get over you Luther Vandross - Superstar/ A house is not a home Prince - Adore Michelle' - Something in my heart Mary J. Blige - Love No Limit Gladys Knight - save the Overtime for me Gerald Levert - Let the Juices flow / Casanova Lakeside - Fantasic Voyage Shalamar - Second time Around Freddie Jackson - Rock Me tonight that's just some from the top of my head. If I think of more, I'll post. |
*that's all?*

Does Elvis Presley's "In the Ghetto" classify as R&B or Soul??? "...and his Momma cried..." My top five choices: "Try a Little Tenderness" by Sam Cooke "(If Loving You is Wrong) I Don't Wanna Be Right" by Luther Ingram "Oh Girl" by the Chi-Lites "Betcha by Golly Wow" by The Stylistics "When a Man Loves A Woman" by Percy Sledge (one of the greatest make out songs EVER!!!) ;) For me, it's all about Old School (Early to Mid 1970's)...an era in Soul that will never be duplicated... "...Do you like good music??? Sweet soul music..." |
isn't "Try A Little Tenderness" by Otis Redding?
Other jams: "Love Man" by Otis Redding "Bring It on Home to Me" by Sam Cooke Ok I gotta make an old school CD now and it is y'all's fault :D Quote:
