I really think Greek Life could thrive at Gtown if it was campus recognized - it seems to be doing very well at GW. |
Does Gtown have any secret societies, eating clubs or anything like that? I don't remember from when I applied there from undergrad... at the time that wasn't something I really paid much attention too.
Gtown's a good school, with lots of future politians, CEOs, etc. I think Greek life could really thrive there, especially for the networking benefits. |
DC is a great environment for Greeks. AU has a
fairly big Greek system, although their campus is more like a suburban campus in the city which seems to be the case with Georgetown. Not to be confused with a campus like DeVry's though. Yes, Greeks at AU range from studs to hoggers. |

sprawling midwestern campii where the coeds were farmers daughers. It brings a whole new meaning to hoggers. AU also has a wonderful residential neighborhood with very cute homes surrounding it, no doubt purchased by some of the many Greek leaders in DC. |
I know that AU, GW and Galludet all have a Greek system. I am surprised G-Town took this long to finally look at expanding it

I don't know if the SigEps will definitely end up at Georgetown, but good luck to them. -Rudey |
I didn't read the article properly, so when when I saw the headline, I thought G'Town was going to RECOGNIZE a fraternity. I knew about AEPi. Good luck to Sig Ep in their efforts. We have a chapter at Brandeis, where they don't recognize greek life, and it can be tough.
As for greeks, G'Town is the home of the International Foreign Service Fraternity and Sorority of Delta Phi Epsilon....NOT to be confused with the NPC International Sorority of Delta Phi Epsilon :p |

Deja Vu.....lol.... But to answer some questions (as I straighten out my Georgetown Alumni t-shirt that I oh so coincidentally am wearing).... AEPi seems to be really strong at Georgetown. I know the men in the founding class were really excited about having a Jewish fraternity at a school that is, well, very Jesuit. I wrote a letter to the editor about an editorial the Georgetown Voice did. I hope they publish it this week. It sickened me how they tried to dissuade men from joining SigEp because of "frat" stereotypes. Pissed me off. Georgetown does have secret societies. They are called The Stewards and there is more than one society with the name. (Second, Third, etc. -- the first is no more.) I am not a member but I guess I was a sympathizer, LOL. GP, I also think a recognized Greek Life at Georgetown would thrive! But they won't even let NPHC orgs have community service projects on campus! At most, they will let a GLO STEP in a step show. I wrote an article about this once. I mean, isn't Knights of Columbus all male? We have that. Why not a GLO? As for the "fringe" Greek life....I believe that in the absence of a traditional system, our service and professional GLOs probably have more of a fraternal feel than most campuses. (Actually, I think many other orgs are like that at Georgetown, too.) Delta Sigma Pi, Delta Phi Epsilon (Fraternity), and Alpha Phi Omega all DEFINITELY pledge and socialize IN ADDITION to following their stated missions. It fills a need the folks have. And finally, Georgetown also had ROTC fraternities, like the Spraker Rifles. I see now that I need to spend a Saturday back at Lauinger Library and brush up on Georgetown's fraternal history.... |
