NPC Badge Day - March 7, 2005
Don't forget to mark your calendars! :)
.....Kelly :) ----------------------------------- For Immediate Release Contact: NPC Office Indianapolis NATIONAL PANHELLENIC CONFERENCE MEMBERS CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL BADGE DAY 2005 Indianapolis -- The 26 member organizations of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) will celebrate International Badge Day March 7, 2005. During the annual event, sorority women everywhere honor their Greek affiliations by wearing their badge or letters. The theme this year is “Remember Your Pledge of Loyalty … Wear Your Badge With Pride.” International Badge Day is co-sponsored by Burr, Patterson & Auld Co. Inc. Celebrating 103 years of excellence, partnership and Panhellenic spirit, NPC looks forward to the future because of the continuing collaborative and dedicated efforts of its 26 groups. International Badge Day honors this spirit and celebrates the pledge of loyalty each member has taken. NPC believes that membership in a fraternity or sorority is a social experience based on the fundamental right of free people to form voluntary associations. It is one of the many enrichments of college and alumnae life. Fraternities and sororities exist because they: • Provide a good democratic social experience. • Give value beyond college years. • Create, through their ideals, an ever-widening circle of service beyond the membership. • Develop an individual's potential through leadership opportunities and group effort. • Fill the need of belonging. The fact that NPC is a conference is significant to the NPC philosophy because the organization is not a congress. Other than the basic UNANIMOUS AGREEMENTS that all groups have voted to observe, NPC confines itself to recommendations and advice and acts as a court of final appeal in any College Panhellenic difficulty. One of its greatest services is providing area advisors for College Panhellenics and Alumnae Panhellenics. Members are represented on over 620 college and university campuses in the United States and Canada and in 4,678 alumnae associations. There are over 3.7 million sorority women in the world. For more information about International Badge Day, contact the NPC Office at (317) 872-3185 or visit the Web site at www.npcwomen.org. # # # |
Badge Day publicity
It would be really cool if everyone sent this press release to their campus and local paper and to the news and radio stations in your city. Sure not all of them will air it or print it, but it is worth a shot. And if several of you in each city do it, they will take notice.
Here is the press release - http://www.npcwomen.org/newsevents/b...ss_Release.rtf And here is an easy way to search for the news outlets in your state - http://newslink.org/ Other ideas include meeting with the other Alumnae and College Panhellenics in your state to ask the governor of your state to proclaim March 7 as NPC International Badge Day. Ask your mayor to proclaim March 7 as NPC International Badge Day for your city. More ideas here - http://www.npcwomen.org/newsevents/n_badgeday.php |
Color me stoked, because I work in an office where I wear "pin attire" to work every day, so I will be wearing my badge this year. Last year I worked in a very casual office and was unable to wear it.
I WILL be wearing my gorgeous badge! Cant wait!
This was of course announced @ Panhellenic Council. This is also the day of our composite pictures so I'll already be wearing something nice. :)
Don't forget to wear your badge tomorrow!
ehh, not NPC but what the heck, I can wear some slacks and a blazer tomorrow with my pin.
I'll be wearing mine!
I might wear mine I haven't decided yet.....
for once, i will(hopefully) remember to wear mine! In fact, i might go put it on the shirt I will wear tomorrow right now! It has been quite awhile since I have worn it!
I will be wearing mine. :) I was off last year for badge day. Tomorrow I have the mid shift
Crud. I'm off on the seventh and will be at home. Well, maybe I'll wear mine around the house for the kids.
Does anyone panhellenic council do anything special besides have people wear their badge ? Like a luncheon or anything ? Appearantly this year my school is doing a Picnic lunch in the quad with all the sororities and if you wear your badge you can get a ticket to enter a raffle to get a gift cert to the book store. Sounds like a good way to encourage girls to wear their badge and also bring the chapters together.

I don't work tomorrow either. :( I guess I'm just going to have to sport my badge at the grocery store and the library! .....Kelly :) |
Oh yeah, I'll be wearing mine tomorrow. I actually have one this year. This time last year, I was a couple of weeks away from being initiated.:)
I'm wearing my badge with pride today!! I'm so glad to have an excuse to wear my badge (and guard......and stickpin! :D )

I remembered mine today! I haven't seen anyone else with a badge on, but I don't work in a very big office so I sort of suspected that I wouldn't. I hope someone asks me about my badge or something though.
I have my AOII badge on! Fun times! I know the collegiate members of most sororities will be wearing their badges or their lettered shirts (like Bid Day jersey) to classes today. Maybe I'll see some other University employees with their badges on!
I'm wearing my antique key that I saved from eBay. I know no one else in my office will be wearing any (only one other gal is Greek -- a Chi Omega-- but she doesn't do anything with the local alumnae).
I'm actually not wearing my badge right now. I was told that we need to wear tube tops or tanks for composites to go under the black wrap (you know the thing that makes you look like you all have on the same shirt). That's obviously not badgewear. ;) I intend on wearing it to an all Greek Bible study tonight though.
I'm wearing a rescued pin today. I rarely wear my pin anymore so this is fun for me. :)
I am wearing a vintage rescued badge on a pendant today. Unfortunately, I'm still sick so I'm hiding away in my cubicle and trying to fix everybody's computer via phone or remote connection to avoid spreading my germs (and to preserve my energy). Nobody has seen it yet, I don't think.
I couldn't find my pin this morning :(. I'm wearing mine in spirit.
I have my lavalier on though. |
I'm wearing mine very proudly! :)
I'm home sick. :( Can I wear my AXO shirt instead?

At UT, the UPC asked all the women to dress nice and wear their pins today. If they go to the Panhellenic table set up in the West Mall (high foot traffic area of campus where orgs often 'table'), they will receive a free t-shirt from 10-4 (not sure what 10-4 is but apparently it is an incentive). Monday night is when most of the groups have their chapter meetings, so no all-sorority get together... Although the picnic and raffle is a cool idea! |
None of the sorority women in any of my classes today have been wearing their pins...apparently our PC dropped the ball on this one.
I'm wearing mine! Someone asked me if the X stood for "X-cellent"! I told her it was my sorority badge and she said, "Oh! Are you a Chi O? My college roommate was one!" Then we chatted about stuff and I said I sent a reminder to all the Greek women in the office because I'm the "Suzie Sorority" around here. She then said, "Wow, I never would have guessed that about you. Which is very cool!" So I guess that is a good thing - dispelling stereotypes, but it saddened me that this is a bright woman with an 2 degrees from Stanford and it took her this long to realize you shouldn't believe a stereotype!
Well, I dont have my badge yet (newly initiated), but we were told to wear the colored safety pins we got. So thats what I'm wearing. I love it, because I dont have classes on Monday, but I do work, at an elementary school after school program. It should be fun because we don't normally dress up, so I'll get to talk about why I'm dressed nicely and talk about Chi O to all my first graders (start 'em young) and coworkers!!
I havent even got dressed yet! Its soo nasty outside but I will be puttin it on!
We encouraged our members at our chapter of AOII to wear their sewn on letters with nice pants if they did not want to dress up with their badge on because the weather is icky here in Oxford, MS today. I wore my badge like I said before, but ther NPCer's in my office did not, but I'm not sure if they knew to do that.
Greek Week started today at our school, so I thought for sure that all of my sisters (and members of other sororities as well) would be wearing their badges, but I have 6 of mysisters in my first class, and only I dressed up. The rest of them wore IM-type shirts with a fairly tacking saying(IMO) on them. I didn't see any girls in my other classes dressed up or in nice letter shirts either. I was proud to wear my badge today, and kind of sad that none of my sisters did.
(But we did when the GW chili cook off- girlsdivison and all around) |
I wore my badge to school today! :)
I am wearing my pin today... so is the rest of my chapter, we have Surrendering of the Pin tonight. It's Inspiration Week! :) Yay for soon-to-be initiated sisters.
The Alpha Chi Omega in one of my afternoon classes had her lyre on, so I felt better. :)
i wore mine to school today. since i teach in a self-contained classroom, i don't see many people...lol. but a few that i did see noticed and asked about it.
I wore my badge today, so did most of the other greek women on campus, and at 6.30 we're having an all-greek women's dinner in the cafe, and have invited the NPC's from USF & UT to come join us, so we'll see who shows up! It was great at lunch, all the Greek women were in black with their badges, we really showed the rest of the school how proud we are of our letters.

Oh No! :o I had no clue! I totally forgot about it. Usually I check teh NPC site to get the date so I can email all my sisters - active and alum and remind them, and then here I am absolutely forgetting!
Although I'm not sure I even have it with me - I just moved last week and I think I left all my jewelry at my dad's house. |
I wore the Chapter Advisor's Lazy Phi badge today. Not a single person asked me about it, but in my company, I fully expected that. :)
