centaur's informal recruitment at UMASS Amherst
So...
I had the first party tonight at ABC. Wow! I feel so comfortable there already, and the girls are so nice and down to earth. I don't feel so anxious about recruitment anymore. I had a bit of a problem tonight as I went to put on my good pants, and I couldn't fit in them  but I asked a couple of friends and they told me to wear jeans but dress them up a bit. When I got there all the sisters were in jeans, so I feel much better. Tomorrow I have house tours at ABC and first party at XYZ. I'll keep everyone posted. Recruitment is off to a flying start! |
dress to your comfort zone...
but listen to the hints you might get. and have fun... who knows? |
How was the first tour?
|
I still love ABC, the house was beautiful. It's big, but homey.
I didn't make it to the first party at XYZ, but I had skits at ABC today, and house tours at XYZ, where I got to meet a lot of the sisters. My friend Jackie is an XYZ, so she talked it up a lot :) But honestly, my heart lies with ABC. I fell in love with it as soon as I got there the first night. I really like the XYZs though, the girls are really nice. I have skits tomorrow with them, and then preference at ABC on Tuesday, so we'll see how that goes. |
keep your eyes and heart open and see what happens.
who knows what's out there?? fingers crossed that all ends happily |
Gone Sigma Kappa at UMASS Amherst! While it wasn't my first choice, I have a feeling this is where I'm supposed to be =D

ABC was Alpha Chi Omega, and XYZ Sigma Kappa. I had such a blast getting to know all my new sisters. This pledge period is going to be awesome.

Congratulations to you and the spectacular ladies of Sigma Kappa! :)

Congrats!
I know that this thread is a month old, but this is the first that I've seen it! I just graduated (masters program) from UMass Amherst in May, and I knew a few Sigma Kappas. I had a student who pledged to that chapter last year. She's probably still there!

Her name is Katie. Last name is slipping my mind at the moment. Pretty girl, long blond hair. She was a student in my College Writing 112 course.

Congrats on your bid!
Question- I have a friend who will be attending UMASS Amherst and is interested in the greek system. Can you tell me anything about it? How big are the chapters? did they all make total? She couldn't find it on the CPH website. Thanks! (Sorry for the hijack) |

From my UMass experience (looking at Greek Life from the "outside"), I believe that the Greek System is relatively small considering the large size of the school. Women can consider NPC organizations, multi-cultural sororities, and a long-standing local sorority. I have observed that physical appearance does not seem to be a prominent factor in sorority membership at UMass. The sororities have members of various sizes, shapes, ethnicities, and races.
Again, these are just observations from an "outsider." I established my Beta Sigma Phi chapter at UMass, but we were not part of the Greek System. Good luck to your friend. Western Massachusetts is a wonderful area to live and go to school. Erica |
