In order to gain Membership into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Chi Chapter, Aspirants must possess at minimum the following:

* Classification as a Sophomore (30 or more Credit Hours)
* GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 (4.0 scale)
* Documented Community Service Record
* Voter Registration Card
* Leadership Abilities
* Good Interpersonal Skills



Posession of these minimum requirements does not in any way ensure an Aspirant membership in Alpha Phi Alpha.

What exceptions do you make for non-American students? (i.e. Foreign Students, or those born abroad who don't actually have American citizenship. Just wondering.

I assume that you have to be an AMERICAN citizen to vote in AMERICAN elections.

If you do a search on "voter registration" you will see a lengthy thread in which this issue was brought up and your question was answered.

I had some pretty great moments in that thread -- I encourage the search.

I think requiring a voter registration card is perfectly appropriate if an alternative requirement is in place for non US Citizens who wish to join.


Wasn't Dr. Martin Luther King an A-PHI-A and weren't the historically african american fraternities heavily involved in the SNCC and sit downs in the south in the 1960's.
Seems like requiring members to be registered to vote is an appropriate way to remember what many fought and some died for.
I was a pledge trainer one semester and the more I think about I wish my chapter and DU in general had the same requirement.
