Alumnae Panhellenics - Recruitment Information sessions 2005 - List them here!
Alumnae Panhellenics - from NPC website http://www.npcwomen.org/alumnae/a_overview.php
What are Alumnae Panhellenics? Alumnae/Area/Hometown Panhellenics: These groups are community based organizations, affiliated with the National Panhellenic Conference, whose membership is composed of representative alumnae from NPC member group fraternities. These groups promote the philanthropic efforts of member organizations, promote the advantages of sorority membership, and host educational/informational sessions to promote Greek Life to women who are going to be attending a college or university. These educational/informational meetings are held at the discretion of the individual Alumnae Panhellenic, but usually take place in the spring of the year. The purpose of these meetings will inform a woman of the opportunities for Greek Life at various universities. A form will be distributed to complete and return to a designated person on that Alumna Panhellenic. This form will be made available to the sorority alumnae groups in that area by the Alumnae Panhellenic. The Alumnae Panhellenic does not guarantee that by completing the form, recommendations will be written on a woman's behalf or that a woman will be invited to particular parties during formal recruitment. This form only serves to alert the alumnae in that area that a woman has registered with the Alumnae Panhellenic and have indicated they will be participating in formal recruitment at a particular university. It is then up to an individual sorority alumnae organization to follow-up with a potential member if they need anymore information in addition to what is listed on the form. Arizona Alumnae Panhellenic
There appear to be three Alumnae Panhellenics in Arizona:
Tucson, Salt River, and Phoenix The Phoenix Alumnae Panhellenic Association website has a lot of great content including information on Registering for Recruitment and getting Recruitment Recommendations - http://www.phoenixpanhellenic.org/recruitment.html Excerpt from their site: What is a recommendation and is it needed? Answer: A recommendation is similar to a job reference. It is a form written by a sorority alumna (graduate) to introduce you to a sorority chapter. An alumna wishing to write a reference does not need to be a graduate of the college you will attend. She only needs to be a member of a sorority with a chapter on that campus. The recommendation provides a means of introduction and does not guarantee an invitation to membership from that sorority. It is the responsibility of the sorority alumna who is completing the form to obtain, complete and submit it in the manner and time required by her group. There are NPC sororities on the campuses of the following Arizona universities: Arizona State University ASU Greek Life Link: http://www.asu.edu/mu/greeklife/ Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Embry-Riddle Greek Life Link: http://osa.pr.erau.edu/greeklife.html Northern Arizona University NAU Greek Life Link: http://www4.nau.edu/reslife/reslife/...life/sorority/ University of Arizona UA Greek Life Link: www.union.arizona.edu/csil/greek/ |

Any updates?
Three of these information sessions have already happened:
February 26. 2005 Houston, TX Area Alumnae Panhellenic http://www.houston-panhellenic.org/rush/pres-letter.htm February 27, 2005 Plano-Richardson, TX Area Alumnae Panhellenic March 1, 2005 Overlake, WA Panhellenic Any PNMs, chapter members, or alumnae members out there who attended any of these? How was the turnout? Any good programming ideas? Hits and Misses? Interesting questions asked by PNMs? |
Overlake had about 40 people I would say (outside of the Panhel people) and it was quite good. I had never been to one so I had no idea what to expect. Most of the conversation was about Univ of WA (college Panhel reps) but we had alumnae from WSU and I was there from UPS. I was glad I was there, since recruitment is SO different there.
We did have one lady (who showed up late and didn't sign in) who specifically brought up hazing. I personally think she just saw the thing advertised and decided to come make a statement. But the Panhel advisor from UW also seemed to expect the question and had a good response prepared. One PNM had some questions that were close to asking about MS. She asked if everyone was guaranteed a bid and what the sororities look for in new members. One person actually asked if you went through rush every year (as in had to rerush each year after you got in). |
Quote:
I think that is a valid concern. I always have girls ask me how likely they are to get a bid. I try to be honest but I never know for sure. |

Arlington, TX Info Session - Article from Star-Telegram
Quote:
By Angie Summers Star-Telegram Staff Writer Legacy. Panhellenic. Sounds like a foreign language, and I haven't even mentioned the Greek alphabet yet. The Arlington Area Alumnae Panhellenic, an umbrella group for national sororities, will provide a quick lesson in sororities for high school senior girls and their mothers or fathers during an information session at 10 a.m. April 9 in the Carlisle Suite at the University of Texas at Arlington's E.H. Hereford University Center. Kristin Richardson, panhellenic president, said attendees will learn how to register for rush -- now called "member recruitment"-- and learn other lingo surrounding sororities. A sorority -- a social and service organization for college women -- is based upon mutual interests and stresses high academic achievement, social activities and community service. Rushees are those interested in joining a sorority, whereas a legacy is a rushee whose mother or sister has been a member of a sorority. Alumnae from a variety of sororities throughout the nation will be there to answer questions. Reservations are not necessary. Call Sallie Krall at (972) 293-0546 or via e-mail to krallkns@aol.com for more information. You can also visit the group's Web site at www.arlington-panhellenic.org for details. |
Alabama - Greek Meet: Panhellenic Association of Huntsville and Madison County
Greek Meet: Panhellenic Association of Huntsville and Madison County
High school graduation is fast approaching for this year's crop of seniors, and many of them are making plans to attend college in the fall. The Panhellenic Association of Huntsville and Madison County wants local senior girls to be aware of the opportunities available to them as members of Greek sororities, and will hold a Greek Meet on Sunday and Monday for that purpose. Panhellenic member Gale Fuller will speak on a range of topics relating to Greek life on campus beginning with rush. How the recruitment process works, what to wear during recruitment, how to choose the sorority that is right for you, costs and what you can expect from sorority life are questions that college-bound girls are likely to have, so Panhellenic encourages girls to seek Greek experiences by learning more about sororities beforehand. Gale will also share information about recruitment at several colleges and universities in the Southeast. Representatives from 16 national Panhellenic sororities will be on hand to answer questions. The event will take place at the Heritage Bank community room, 4245 Balmoral Drive, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday and from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday. The event is free, and dress is casual. For more information, call Kitty Pettus-Hinds at 533-2770. |

Vero Beach, FL Panhellenic Group
Lucia Bailey of the Vero Beach Panhellenic Hope Group has packets of information available for women planning to go through Panhellenic (sorority) rush on their college campus.
Recommendations from local alumnae are a necessity for those going through rush. Sorority members are provided with the opportunity to enhance leadership skills and scholarship and become involved with social and philanthropic activities. The Vero Beach group is connected to the National Panhellenic Conference and its 26 member groups. For more information on the necessary advance preparation, call Bailey at (772) 231-0233. ****Since there are no big colleges in the Vero area (that I know of), I believe that this group could help women in the Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie & Palm Beach County areas of Coastal East Florida. |
