Ossie Davis: Dead

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...it_ossie_davis

I remember meeting him and his wife as a little girl. :o

nikki1920 02-04-2005 12:37 PM

I think I saw him on Sesame Street and remeber liking his white hair and that he seemed so eloquent. He reminded me of my grandfather. He'll be missed. My heart goes out to Ruby Dee.

OrangeMoon 02-04-2005 12:42 PM

The Davis family and especially Ruby Dee are in my prayers. Their relationship exemplified “Black Love” in the purest form.:(

Honeykiss1974 02-04-2005 12:44 PM

NO! :(

My prayers are with the family too.

I really wonder if Ruby will be able to live without him. :(

TonyB06 02-04-2005 01:24 PM

Condolences to the family. Ossie Davis was a giant who will truly be missed.:(

That's so true. Sadly, when a couple is together for YEARS and one spouse passes, the other seems to go soon after. :(

I was thinking the same thing. My grandmothers and great-grand mothers soon followed their husbands to the afterlife.

Love is a beautiful thing and I really hope Ruby Dee will be okay. :(

Steeltrap 02-04-2005 01:38 PM

:(

RIP, Mr. Davis. I knew that he was up there, but I had no idea that he was 87 years of age. He and Ruby Dee, finally, were getting awards and honors long due to them in the later part of their lives/careers, when the world had changed a bit.

CrimsonTide4 02-04-2005 01:42 PM

I met both he and Ruby Dee in college; he could not stay for the luncheon but he gave me a hug. I was always so very impressed with him. :(

LG, I said the exact same thing when I heard the news.

So very, very sad...:(

strivingsf 02-04-2005 02:19 PM

I could not believe it when I heard the news earlier. Ossie and Ruby Dee were showed the world that black love exists and black men can commit their lives to one woman.

Ossie was one star who did not have affairs attached to his name.

Ruby Dee my heart goes out to her and the rest of the Davis family.

That was my first thought too when my homepage opened up with the news of his passing. :(

Proverbs31 02-04-2005 02:24 PM

ms_gwyn 02-04-2005 02:42 PM

oh man

i have this void.....

I hope Ruby Dee can survive a while longer

my heartfelt condolences to his wife and family

skywalker20_99 02-04-2005 03:12 PM

This news saddens me. Ruby and Ossie were one of the greatest role models for black love and activism. I'm actually sitting here teary eyed.

OrangeMoon 02-04-2005 03:36 PM

Just a thought

I loved his voice there was something about his voice that just seemed mature, powerful and proud. Just thinking :) :(

Munchkin03 02-04-2005 04:32 PM

I'm so sad. :(

They reminded me of my grandparents so much.

RedefinedDiva 02-04-2005 06:20 PM

It is so strange how this happens. In the Times-Picayune yesterday, there was a couple that passed away last week. The husband was 103, the wife 100. They had been married for 86 years. She passed away on January 28th and he passed on the 31st. Their funeral is tomorrow (Saturday).

Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee are the cutest couple. Will and Jada are following in their footsteps. They have so much love for one another and it seems like that lasting kind of love that transcends everything that this world has to offer. I pray for Ruby Dee. She and Ossie are both wonderful actors and he will be greatly missed.

AKA_Monet 02-04-2005 06:53 PM

My condolences and sympathies to the family...

Exquisite5 02-04-2005 06:57 PM

This is such sad news. We have lost a wonderful icon of African American culture.

The entire HU family is mourning. The school's flag was lowered to half mast. Ossie Davis was a graduate of Howard University and regularly held fundraisers for his Alma Mater. He spoke at the 2004 Charter Day last fall. I am kicking myself for missing it.:(

My sentiments exactly.... some folks really do die of a broken heart. It happened to my cousins' parents. :(

skeeliteful 02-04-2005 10:46 PM

I am in utter disbelief. Ossie and Ruby looked so vibrant at the Kennedy Center Honors last month. They were a shining example of black love and Mr. davis will be missed. :(

1_zetaemerald 02-04-2005 11:29 PM

I was shocked as well! He and Ruby Dee had a wonderful relationship and he will be truly missed. My prayers will be with him and his family.

I also missed Charter Day, but I saw him many time because he was extremely generous with his time at Howard. He regularly came back to campus to visit various departments.

Ever since I heard of his death, I keep thinking of his eulogy to Malcolm X. Many of the same things could be said about Davis.

Last interview with Tavis Smiley. The show will air next week on his PBS nightly show.
