Favorite Cardio/Workout
Ok, it is about that time-getting in shape for....SPRING BREAK I have just started a new diet plan, but I was wondering what every ones fav workout(preferably cardio but any is good) is. I don't like running just because it is so repetitive. So anyone know of any good videos? Or even classes? I really dislike the big gyms like Golds, Bally, 24 Hour fitness, just because of the "pretty people" environment. So I like to do videos at home. Anyone else getting ready to start shedding pounds? Perhaps we could even start a little "moral support" thread?
BTW-The Body for Life website is AWESOME . Workouts, meal plans, a shopping list, etc. Its great!! |
I dig on the eliptical trainer at they gym.
|
I love the billy blanks video as well as the pilates video.

I also have the Tae-Bo videos which are okay (i get bored easily). Target had a Buns of Steel Tai Chi video for $1 the other day. I haven't tried it out yet but at the very least i'm sure the video will be entertaining. |
i like the eliptical also. i hate running and the eliptical is easier on my knees and ankles. i have my ipod and there's tv's on right in front of the eliptical machines.
|
I'm a fan of the eliptical too. I can do it for an entire hour before getting bored.
|
My mother just bought herself an elpitical from sharper image. i do like the elipitcal at the gym as well. A lot easier on my knees b/c i detest running and the treadmill bores me.

Hey! Have you tried any of the Firm videos? I know they've been discussed here before, and they're really good. They have some videos that are cardio/strength training combos, which I like. I am the same way as you, I HATE running, and I don't go to big gyms. I like to do videos at home as well. I also occasionally go to a Bikram yoga (or hot yoga) class, which is wonderful. Another suggestion is a dance class-I started a ballet class about a month ago-for fun/because I've always wanted to/great way to get in shape-and I love it! Great alternitave to going to the gym.
Hope this helps!:) |
Videos rock! Also a great souce for videos (FIRM, Taebo and the whole gamut) is Collage Video. www.collagevideo.com
You can even watch a 60 second preview to see if the video is for you |
I go to the gym three times a week & run on the elliptical trainer for 30-35 minutes (besides lifting some weights.) 5 days a week I do the standing pilates portion of my pilates for dummies DVD. :)
|
i have some of the firm videos that i really like. it is the series with the firm box. it comes with 4 videos, so you don't get bored too easily! i have really enjoyed them!
|
I went to the gym today and ran 2 miles around the track, then got on the elliptical trainer and did another 3 miles (about 35 mins), then got on the stair master for about 10. I finally found a work out buddy (who is crazy obsessed with the gym) so working out with her will be good for me, plus it helps time go by faster if I have someone to talk to. My plan now is every Saturday and sunday 3 hrs each day, then about an 1 every day of the week! I will have an in shape body by spring Break!!!!

Oooh...I love the elliptical. I also do Pilates, and I'm trying to take some Cardio Kickboxing classes. I took one at school, and it was the best, most fun workout ever!!!
I'm a big fan of group exercise, for some reason. I [heart] my gym! |
One word:ROWING. Being on crew, you not only have to row, but run, do weight training, and do it all at the ass crack of dawn.
|
Seriously...I know here the crew team gets up at 4, rows until about 7, and then they work out in the afternoon. I wish I was in good enough shape and had the time!

I love the elliptical but other than that, I usually run. It's always good to lift weights at least twice a week too. |
My favorite cardio workout is the Funky Hi-Low class at 24 hour fitness. I need a group exercise class to stay motivated. I get too bored using just machines.
Although, if I use a machine, I like the elliptical trainer. |
Since I don't have a mat at home for my mat-portion of my pilates DVDs (I bought another one now besides the pilates for dummies DVD) I'm thinking about taking a Pilates class at the gym I go to. Its all mat-work & they provide the mat & the cost is $40 for one class a week for 8 weeks. I don't know how much classes usually cost so I can't decide if $40 is a good or bad deal!

Has anyone done the Stripercise videos or classes? I've heard that they are a really good work out and am just curious if anyone else has done them?
|
I have my own little home gym. I used to work for a company that gave us a "wellness benefit" every year, that we could apply to gym membership, a quit-smoking or weight-loss program, or purchase of gym equipment. So I've picked up a stationary bike, elliptical machine, and weight machine. This way, I have no excuses. I can't say "it's snowing, so I can't get to the gym" because the gym is in my basement!
I try to take some time at least three days a week, and spend some time on the bike or elliptical and/or the weight machine. I read or put the TV on while I'm working out. |
I love the Elliptical Trainer! I feel like I get the best work out using that.
I use the Elliptical machine for 30 minutes about 4 times a week. I do strength training 3 to 4 times a week also. I take a body works class and a pilates class on Sunday mornings. During the week, I'll wake up early before work and either do one of the exercises from FitTV (digital cable channel that has 24 hour fitness) or I'll do exercises from my Bellydancing video (Neena and Veena are the best!). |
When it's nice out, I prefer walking--3 miles in under 45 minutes.
During the winter, I use the treadmill and elliptical at the gym with 20-30 minutes of weights between the two workouts. |

BellyDancing? Did Mr. ZTAngel request you start doing that? :D |
