Popeye's v. KFC v. Church's
Praytell, who is the best?
I have been having a low key passionate debate about this for a few days. I say it is POPEYES, of course, but let's get a more diverse sampling. |
I agree with you on this one. Church's is too greasy and KFC just ain't Popeyes. The Popeyes out here is the best :p
|
Popeyes has THE BEST chicken hands down, but KFC has the best biscuits!!!
|
Going against the grain--KFC Original :D
|
I mainly eat chicken strips these days, and Popeye's are pretty good. The best ones, though, are from an independent joint in San Diego called the Chicken Shack. Meaty and thick, wonderfully seasoned. Only $7.50 for 10 strips. I've made three meals out of them (with a side salad).

Sonic has GREAT popcorn chicken! :o
If you order their popcorn chicken salad...lawd! :o I prefer "Love that chicken from POP-PEYES! :p |
Church's just scares me. You can get like 12 pc. for like $1.99, lol. Their restaurants aren't the cleanest. They like never clean their windows. In the inside there's like flour everywhere.
KFC isn't that bad. It's just that they do not cook their chicken fingers well enough for me. Their chicken is also on the salty side. Popeye's win - their chicken and biscuits. There's only one other place who's biscuits are in the same league as Popeye's and it's not even a chicken place. It's Red Lobster's cheddar garlic biscuits, yum. |
KFC
Original Crispy....Gotta Luv it!!! and don't even get me started on the Cole Slaw:D |
KFC. End of discussion.
|
Popeyes. Best chicken and definitely the best biscuits.
|
Popeyes...only when I'm in New Orleans. When I eat it other places it just doesn't taste the same.
|
Well, here in Cali, KFC rules (for the major chicken chains). Personally, the best chicken in LA (won the Hoodie Award) is CW&Chris Chicken and Fish. It's in contention with my momma's chicken.
But, if I was in Atlanta, Popeye's would win. The Popeye's down the street from the AUC has the best chicken. Church's chicken is nasty! The big mutant wings scare me. However, I remember walking a good 20 minutes for one of those honey butter biscuits. |
Y'all wrong! Church's is the best (if you can look past the genetic engineering - you have to forgive them for their frighteningly enormous chicken pieces, they're from Texas! Everything's bigger there!) But for real, Church's is my pick. They have the best biscuits as well.
But, KFC biscuits are pretty good, if you're in the mood for plain ole Pillsbury biscuits and you don't feel like cooking. Their chicken is always burnt tasting. Popeye's...not feelin them too much but I can see why Louisianee people might like them. I haven't ever had Popeye's chicken that's not doused with hot sauce, so I really don't know what it tastes like plain. |

In New Jersey we only have KFC and Popeye's. I like KFC's tender roast. However, I like Popeye's Fried Chicken.
I would like to try Church's. |
I read this thread and all I wanted to do was bite into a chicken. It could be alive but if it had hot sauce on it, I'd bite hard.
-Rudey --Since I became veg, I like these chick nugget things but they're not the same |
Out of the 3 listed, I'd take Popeye's, I don't mind Bonjangle's food either. Church's chicken is too greasy.

Living in Charlotte has only one downfall -- no POPEYES within a 50 mile radius. However last week I was alerted that there is a Popeyes 90 miles away from me. :D I cannot wait to go to Columbia on 2.12.05; the folks riding with me can eat where they want but me and my mouth will be feasting on Popeyes.:D PreciousJeni, you must have a cast iron stomach because Church's chicken causes me to have MARATHONS. :( |

Popeye's, hands down.

Carla, there used to be 2 Popeye's here. One right down the street from my house. And they took both away. You would've thought somebody died when I found out. The closest one to me now is on the Thruway in Rochester, like 90 minutes away. However, I am going to NYC next Friday and have already been on www.popeyes.com to find the closest location.:D In fact, when I went to NYC last month with my youth group, I was amped not because of NYC but because we were going to Harlem and I KNEW I was going to have some chicken. In fact, my group of girls clowned me the entire weekend, that is, until they tasted the chicken. ;) |
ditto on Popeye's, it is the best:p two of our Popeye's (same owner) have the best biscuits. not the "hockey puck"-lookin' ones that you typically find but real buttery-tasting biscuits:D i've not seen them at any other Popeye's. not ATL, not Harlem, and not even New Orleans...i wonder why:confused:
|
I'm from Charlotte and I am really upset that there is no Popeye's there. I have seen two Church's but I had a bad experience....:( I had Popeye's in Conneticut and I haven't had it since. BUT I still say that KFC is the way to go!!! Bojangles is good too BUT when you get the KFC chicken with the cole slaw and the mashed potatoes -n- gravy with the biscuit....mmmmmmmm. It's the combination of everything!!! Dang I don' talked myself up on some hunger........

Down here in the NO area (actually the 'burb Metairie). The menu is extended. You get more than the typical popeye's menu.

POPEYES HANDS DOWN!!!!
*stomps foot twice for a 2 piece* Discussion over!! http://www.kurts-smilies.de/closed.gif |
LMAO @ 2D4U!
Super Popeyes: The site isn't up, but this is their catering menu. It is a fast food joint, just like a regular Popeyes! LOL http://www.takeout-taxi.com/Sites/Ne...ch.pdf#search='super%20popeyes' |
Do you all have a KFC buffet? It is KFC, but they have their sides on a buffet (greens, corn, mac & cheese, etc.)

On my way home to slam on some more of my 8 piece and remaining biscuits. |

A few of the KFCs in South LA have closed. |
I must admit, that there is just no comparison...POPEYES!!!
When I feel like some GUUD chicken, POPEYES is the best!!! When I feel like some GOOD chicken AT A REASONABLY LOW LOW PRICE...THEN IT IS CHURCH'S FOR ME!! But their biscuits are better than Popeyes!! I used to LUUV some KFC, but the taste don't quite suit me any more. And we are NOT even GOING to TALK about Mrs. Winners!! BTW: I used to work at Popeyes when I was 15!!! |
Popeyes without a doubt, and you know what the one in New Orleans does taste better.
|
Hmmm....
....that's a good question, especially considering I had Popeyes last night and KFC last week.
While Columbus does have quite a few Church's chicken joints in town (one of them actually sharing space with a White Castles), the first and last time I had Church's chicken was in November 1989 (it was rather tasty, mind you--I just don't know what's holding me back from trying Church's again). Anyway, that leaves Popeye's v. KFC. I like Popeye's spicy crispy strips (but hate the effect the spices have on the stomach and, uh, "digestive system"). Their mashed potatoes w/gravy and their greens are the BOMB (why they took the greens off the menu is beyond me). For some reason, every time I eat Popeyes, that General Otis commercial from Undercover Brother is always playing in my head. Oh, and I love their biscuits too. KFC, however has IMHO the best original recipe coating. I have loved it since I was a kid, however perhaps due to my age, I now find it a bit too salty and too fatty. But it's a guilty pleasure nonetheless. Back in the day (mid-80s), they had Kentucky Nuggets which I thought were the best chicken nuggets I ever had. Too bad they did away with them. 5 years ago they had 5 different KFC sandwiches. They now have 2 still on the menu, the Original Recipe sandwich which I liked best they did away with. I would eat that with the 99 cent potato wedges. In short, KFC has experimented with various dishes that while I personally liked them, they never kept them long term or brought them back sporadically (case in point: their rotisserie gold chicken--DEE-LEE-I-O-SHUS!!). Their sides dishes I think is okay, but not great. So to sum up, I like KFC when I want "plain" fried chicken (which I usually eat with Pasta Roni and a vegetable), Popeye's when I want crispy chicken and their side dishes. |
