i believe
that there was a post in the fall concerning a school that had a different quota for each sorority on campus. does anyone remember?
|
I have no idea, but would be curious if Indiana University does quota based on space available in the house.
If you look at the last three Formal recruitments (overall)... The new member numbers are all over the board from 30-50 for the 19 NPC houses. Even more interesting (to me), is that the numbers vary from year-to-year individually among the chapters. Ex. one year AOPI had 50+ NM, another 30+, another 40+... the same for Pi Phi, but 30, 50, 40. Unless chapters had a bad rush one year? Not sure if I am making sense... Maybe someone who goes to Indiana could answer. Basically, it appears the NM classes range between 20-50 with everything in between, with no definitive quota. |

Quota range refers to how quota is set using NPC's new release figure method. Rather than setting quota and sticking to it hard and fast (often at the detriment of many gorups in the system matching quota) a range is set. Then after preference quota is run more than once at all the number sin the range to see which outcome is able to place the most pnm's and the sororities involved achieve the best results.
Does that make sense? |
Which Washington University? Pullman, WA? Seattle, WA?

Because this always needs to be explained...
GWU= The George Washington University in Washington, DC UW (AKA) University of Washington is in Washington State (Seattle) (it is ALWAYS University of Washington, NEVER Washington University) Wazzu (Washington State University) is in Pullman, WA (and is also NEVER referred to as Washington University) Wash U is Washington University in St. Louis (or Washington University). It is a private university in St. Louis, Missouri that is one of the best schools in the country (according to US World and News Report it's #11) For a long time my chapter as a Fundraiser sold shirts that said: Washington University...it's in St. Louis Dammit! Because SO many people get confused...this isn't the first time. ;) |
Indiana U does not do bed rush anymore

When I went to Wash U, people were always assuming the Univ of Washington and it was rather annoying...........
|
Gamma Phi did once exist at Wash. U. They closed their chapter in 1989 if I'm not mistaken. AXO also had a chapter, and they closed the following year. Other chapters Wash. U. has had in the past include Phi Mu, ZTA, SDT, and Theta (which was the most recent to close in 2000). Hard to believe that so many NPCs have had charters at Wash. U. I'm sure the Office of Greek Life has a record of who's been on campus and when if you ever wanted to check it out.
|
I actually have the entire list here somewhere including the dates the chapters were open. I'll dig it up here in a bit...
|
Also, Alpha Xi Delta's Beta Beta chapter was at Washington Univ. from 1929 until 1963.

And yes, girls from Theta formed the local that is there now (I am not sure of the name but I've had conversations with one of the women). When I was there, they had 4 very strong chapters, two pretty strong and us and there were always a ton of women rushing. The 4 strong ones were very alike and the other 3 were quite different from them (but similar to each other). The 4 are still there........... Unfortunately, stereotypes and rumors ran rampant on that campus during that time and small chapters never stood a chance. I would also say it never seemed very Panhellenic to me....... |
I know for sure that we moved into the AXO suite when they left (up until our suite was completely redone a few years ago, the panels over our heaters were in the shape of the AXO harps; they were finally replaced with anchors right before my senior year began in 2001--more than 10 years after AXO left campus!). I don't know where the Gamma Phi suite was. I know that Theta was in the original DG suite when we were on campus the 1st time (that suite is now the Greek Life Office if I'm not mistaken)--found that one out from alums who still live in the area (Founders Day is good for random facts like that ;) ).
SmartBlondGPhB: Were the chapters when you were there consist of: PiPhi, Alpha Phi, AEPhi, Kappa, Theta, GPhiB, and AXO? It's crazy how we were freshman 10 years apart (I entered WU in the Fall of '98) and there's been so much change in those years--you guys had fall recruitment and 7 chapters...I had deferred and 6 (although 5 of them were there from your time). Have you been back to campus at all since you transferred? You probably wouldn't recognize it...they've built 4 new dorms on the 40, Small Group Housing, and at least 3 academic buildings just since my freshman year! |
Yes, those were the chapters on campus when I was there.
Our suite was on the 2nd floor on the end. If you are looking at the building, the right end. I haven't been back, really no reason to. I was actually a freshman in 1987, initiated in 1988. We had to make grades when I was a pledge in order to be initiated...... |
