Okay, I visited this forum like five times before I realized that this thread was a joke.

THATS HOW SCARY THIS FORUM IS GETTING.

It seems that way on GC lately. The D&R forum has become the wedding planning forum. Did everyone get engaged over the holidays or something?

I like parody threads.

Getting married young when you have no resources and haven't seen the world is the way of the cougar.

Yes I say we petition ZTAngel to get this forum renamed to Wedding Planning. Perhaps we can have a resident planner on the forum too, make all those engaged couples lives much simpler.

Lil' Hannah 01-17-2005 09:58 AM

I'd probably get married around 2 or 3 so that cocktail hour at the reception can start at 5...I mean, my guests would never be so gauche to start before then, you know? And of course it will be open bar. I'd never be so TACKY.

I want people to get CRUNK at my wedding.

I've been planning for it because I'm PRACTICALLY ENGAGED.

Even if this thread is a joke, if I ever get married, I plan on being married on the upswing of the clock. Its not only a tradition among both my mother & father's side of the family but its just one of the many wedding superstitions. Getting married on the upswing of the clock is good luck, getting married on the downswing is bad luck. :p

I'm sorry, i really don't enjoy confrontation very much - it looks like we share similar ideas with regard to morning weddings and afternoon sexing, perhaps we should start a not-for-profit organization to convince these heathens to come to our side.

To be quite honest, I'm not sure why anyone would be asking for advice on this board. My fiancee and I get enough unsolicited advice from friends and relatives already. Why go on a public board and ask for more?

BECAUSE I WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THAT I'M PLANNING MY WEDDING! GETTING MARRIED VALIDATES ME AS A HUMAN BEING AND I MUST LET EVERYONE KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT MY WEDDING PLANS AND REMIND EVERYONE THAT SOMEWHERE IN THE WORLD, THERE IS A MAN STUPID ENOUGH TO THINK SPENDING THE REST OF HIS LIFE WITH ME IS A GOOD IDEA.

Haha, seriously? I've never heard of that one. I guess that explains why 2 of my friends got married at half past. I was wondering why they did that.

If that's the case, my marriage is doomed. :)

Its just superstition so I wouldn't worry about it too much. :) Its right up there with "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue and a Silver Sixpence in her Shoe" type stuff. :p

GeekyPenguin 01-17-2005 01:56 PM

Well, I always originally thought two, so I could get my cocktail on like Lil' Hannah wants to, but this downswing concerns me, so apparently 2:30 it is. I figure the ceremony will be about an hour, we can go get our sex on in the limo, and get to the cocktail hour at 5 in plenty of time.

ISUKappa 01-17-2005 02:29 PM

Well, when I get married, it's definitely going to be after 5:00 pm so the guyz can wear full dress tails and my huney can wear a tophat and cane and my girlz can wear full taffeta dresses with opera gloves. I'll wear my dream gown with the big poufy lace sleeves that I've had torn out of a Bridal magazine since I was 7. And I'll make my guests wear full black-tie apparel.

Oh wait. I'm already married. Damn.

XOMichelle 01-17-2005 06:25 PM

ha ha ha... this is funny. Although seriously? Evening rules- cocktail hour! If I'm geting married it will be a party.

Because these little trixies that are asking advice are just PRACTICALLY ENGAGED--it's easy to be "engaged" when all you're doing is playing around on theknot.com and making fake registries. You're really engaged, and therefore know what it's really like to plan a wedding.

PureGoldF2K1 01-18-2005 03:57 AM

Oh you cynical judgmental people you...:D :p

I dont even have a full boyfriend but I think its fun to plan...many many girls do it without the advantage of fellow GCers & their fun ideas!!...I dont think its obsessive at all do play around with ideas HERE...it would be pretty sad if we were actually placing calls to caterers and photographers though ;)

I don't have my DSM4 in front of me . . . but yep, it's obsessive.

Having all this stuff planned out (not just "well i'd LOVE" but "well I've priced out") is a tier-1.5 deal-breaker . . . and tier-1 is 'molests children' or 'is insane'

Peaches-n-Cream 01-18-2005 12:13 PM

This reminds me of the film Muriel's Wedding.

I like to look at the photos of wedding gowns, but I am not going to start shopping for a gown until I am engaged with an actual proposal and a ring and a date set. I now realize that this approach is wrong. Maybe I should plan the entire thing and hope my boyfriend shows up and says "I will" when I surprise him with a wedding. That's a thought! I think that I'll start calling the Plaza and the Waldorf Astoria to see when they are available! I'm hoping for a Saturday in May at 5:30. Fingers crossed! Next, I'll run over to Bloomingdale's and register. Of course, there is always a chance that he will back out. Fortunately, Bellevue is close, and I'm sure those nice people will be able to help me recover. :p

I drive a '95 Volvo 850 which is both quite stylish and gets me a lot of middle management compliments. Everyone wants to drive the Volvo and restructure the organization from the ground up. Not that I blame them.

Who wants to hear about my white trash wedding? Coors Light in the can in coolers on the back deck, and my bridesmaids will wear dirty white flip flops with NASCAR tshirts (ripped and then tied up in the back to bear midriffs, of course.) Everyone will love my wedding.

if you drive a volvo (or subaru for that mattter) there's pretty good odds on your white trash wedding happening with another woman.

just saying.

You guys make fun of the Volvo, but I know that's because you're jealous. Size matters, and so does the 160 raging ponies under the hood.

(True story: I used to own a '93 Volvo 240 with the license plate VOVO PWR.)

My wedding will be at 3 p.m. so we don't miss a minute of Happy Hour that starts at 5 p.m.

Does your girlfriend have a marlin tattoo on her calf and does she collect cats from www.bonsaikitten.com?

I wanna get married as young as humanly possible, which means I won't have a big budget for my wedding. There's nothing wrong with having brunch for your wedding right? As long as it's on the upswing of the clock?

I agree with you-I almost made a sarcastic remark too, but then it was hard to tell! ;)

And honestly for just a second-true superstitious folks have their weddings on the true upswing of the clock-6:30, 7:30, 8:30, 9:30, 10:30, & 11:30 are the only ones that fall under that category.

ISUKappa 01-19-2005 12:18 PM

Whatever you do, do not get married before 9 am. Because that's just too damn early! For everyone involved!

And make sure you have a long limo ride (at least 5 mins) between the ceremony and the reception so you can seal your vows with the ceremonial deflowering in the back seat.

sigmagrrl 01-19-2005 01:12 PM

Time of day??? Hmm, well, I have gone back and forth between 6pm and 1pm...Earlier to have daylight, outdoor times or later to make sure there are no kiddies at the party!
