Mardi Gras 2005- who's going?

Sounds like I'll be down in time for Krew of Orpheus and general drunken melee.

I'm not going to that but my crazy catholic young adults group is having a fat tuesday celebration :)

BetteDavisEyes 01-12-2005 12:16 PM

I want to go sooooooo bad but no one wants to go w/me. My fiancee tells me he'll take me but not til next year. I wanna go now & just go crazy, have fun, & experience Mardi Gras where it's supposed to be celebrated. Mardi Gras parties are fun but nothing beats the real thing.

KSigkid 01-12-2005 01:14 PM

I went a couple of years ago for a couple of days; it was absolutely insane, a load of fun. The amount of booze, Popeye's and jambalaya that I had made me sick for a couple of weeks afterwards.

I actually got an invitation to go back down this year, but I won't be able to make it. Everyone who goes, have fun and be safe.

prinzessgena 01-12-2005 02:59 PM

I'm going to New Orleans again.
:)

jillybean 01-12-2005 03:22 PM

I would love to head down to Mardi Gras! Does anyone know if it is super expensive (and inflated) to go down here at this time? Or is it about the same as going any other time of the year?

GPhiLlama 01-12-2005 07:52 PM

Already there. Come visit me. :)

EPTriSigma 01-12-2005 09:21 PM

The plan is to go.... but we'll see how it works out.

Susan_Renee 01-13-2005 11:29 PM

Mardi Gras is awesome! Went 2 years ago. Brought back 20lbs of beads. AND NO, I DID NOT FLASH FOR THEM!!!

Unregistered- 01-14-2005 02:13 AM

I'm going to miss Mardi Gras this year, but I'm making it a point to visit New Orleans and Baton Rouge sometime this spring.

I checked the fares and it's actually pretty cheap flying from Hawaii around that time...I just can't get any time off. :(

damasa 01-14-2005 04:22 AM

Mardi Gras is for hippies and anyone that says they "might be going" really means "I'm not going at all but I want to look cool and say that I may go."

(Ain't nothin' wrong with some hippies though.)

Yes, especially lodging! It is much more expensive because they know folks are coming from all around. I highly recommend that you use any travel points/miles/discounts that you have!

Mr. Trojangal has family down there so we lucky if we decide to go down there.

Haha, I'm a hippie now.

AOIIBrandi 01-14-2005 01:53 PM

I was supposed to, but things change. Mostly the opportunity to go to Europe instead. We'll go next year though - already started planning. All our friends are going this year and reading about it will just make me miss it worse :(

Hokay, screw what I said.

By the end of this weekend, I'm hoping to book my flight to New Orleans for February 1st, arriving on the 2nd. I'll be there for a week.

Luckily I won't have to worry about lodging this time around!

And Blaine, you know me. I'm so not the hippie type.

Unregistered- 01-15-2005 01:27 AM

Sorry Blaine.

My flight is booked. Can you believe...$337 from Honolulu. Honolulu - Atlanta - New Orleans ... can you effing believe it? I can't!

I arrive in New Orleans on the 2nd and leave on the 9th.

Bring out the Everclear...MAMA I'M COMING HOME!

I know darling, but I didn't have to pay for my airfare this time! :p

When is Marissa's spring break again? Maybe I can convince my stepdad to give me his Aloha Air miles and that way I can fly into Orange County or Burbank for free.

greeklawgirl 01-15-2005 03:03 AM

I'm pretty sure its the 3rd week of March...if you can convince your stepdad, flying into Burbank would be fabulous since I'm so nearby.

Marissa is looking into airfare, I'm working on Nic and the cabana boy, and Howl L.A. is already lined up since Cabana Boy introduced me to a piano player there, too! All I have to do is make the call and we're in, its so sad. lol :D

alright- I'm thinking GC gathering at Mardi Gras. I'll be around the Phi Psis from LSU and Loyola- see if that saves me some money while down there.

Okay. The begging for miles will begin tomorrow. He has 120,000 and I only need 50,000 for a round trip.

I plan to force Kalin to come with me to Howl New Orleans. Of course we'll do the Pat O'Briens, but I hafta hit up Howl. It just won't be a trip without it!

Lemme know! Kalin and the boys said that I'm the guest of honor so I get to do whatever I want and they'll follow me, providing I honor their yearly "tradition"...and what that is I have no friggin' idea.

Good, I expect to hear an update on your begging efforts very soon. You have to come through for us at least once in 2005, if not for spring break...then for fall break! ;)

Also a warning, Howl is not the same without the whole gang there. I learned that one the hard way. It'll still be fun, just different! You must make sure you have a hurricane at Pat O's!

I know that it'll be different...but luckily Kalin has a whole bunch of friends that will be joining us. And while they aren't you, Nic, Marissa, and Jules...they'll just have to do for now -- and hopefully they won't be too square and they'll actually shake their tailfeathers with me. ;) :p

Loyola Phi Psis rock! They're extremely nice guys.

chideltjen 01-18-2005 04:01 PM

Anyone have any suggestions for activities/games you can do at a Mardi Gras party? I brought up the idea to my church group leader yesterday and she loved the idea of all the food and decorations... but we don't have any ideas for activities.

And it's going to be at a church... so it's gotta be toned down... dramatically.

KDLady00 01-20-2005 07:11 PM

I will be in New Orleans with Bells on!! Just kidding but I will be there! My family is actually from New Orleans & half still lives there so its a tradition that we go! We go for new Years block partys & they are out of this world awesome!! :D

dekeguy 01-20-2005 10:09 PM

If you are in New Orleans for Carnival and catch the Rex parade on Mardi Gras Day you might want to check out the neutral ground side of Float 13 and yell "Hay Peter, throw me something". If you attend Mystery, Momus, Proteus, or Rex and Comus balls look for a guy in an Army Blue Mess uniform, about 6'2" tall, 185 lbs, reddish brown hair, and horn rim glasses. I'd enjoy sharing some champagne with fellow GCers.

Will do!

Hopefully I'll still be walking upright and/or alive by then. :)

If I had the cash to attend the balls, I would. :) My older brother is going to the Orpheus ball...I'm just hanging out for the parades.

I've heard so many great things about the balls. I don't know what Kalin and the boys have planned (I know they went to the Orpheus one last year), but knowing him and his friends I know I'm in for the time of my life! I can't wait...only 11 more days till I leave!

=========================

Actually, as regards the traditional Carnival Balls there is no cash involved as they are by invitation and at no cost to the guests. All expenses are underwritten by the Krewe members whose dues cover the cost of a certain number of invitations. The only expense to the guest is what ever one would be wearing. For a man it would be white tie and tails or dress uniform and for a lady what ever evening wear she chooses.

dekeguy 02-10-2005 02:13 PM

OK, so where was everybody? I did not hear any GCers calling out at the Rex Parade and I did not see any one at the Balls. Did any of you get to New Orleans or did something come up to interfere with the trip? Maybe next year we need to plan this out a little more solidly?

IowaStatePhiPsi 02-10-2005 02:58 PM

I saw the parades Monday night- did that include the Rex parade? Was drinking and hanging with the LSU Phi Psis at St. Charles & Jackson
Tuesday I saw a bit of Zulu when I found the Loyola Phi Psis- but they were jerks so I went back to hanging with the other ISU students.
Was down on Bourbon & St. Ann on Mon & Tues nights. Down there again tonight (I have a date?!?!) and Friday night.

At a Model UN conference- we're the largest group here with 14 students. And most of the 150 students were all drinking this morning so this is going to suck a bit.
Mon night I got back to the hotel at 4AM. Tues night at 6AM, Wed night at 8AM

GPhiLlama 02-10-2005 03:35 PM

I was only able to go to Saturn, Muses and Morpheus. I was SICK AS A DOG Monday and Tuesday. And now, but I'm at home. :(

Unregistered- 02-10-2005 07:35 PM

I did Endymion, Bacchus, and most of Fat Tuesday. I couldn't remember which one you were going to be in and I wasn't able to check my email at all. :(

IowaStatePhiPsi 02-11-2005 06:10 AM

early night- home at 4am

made out with someone who lives down the street from my grandpa out in ohio

got 7 of my 11 drinks free thanks to other people.
