Names

I guess I'm just going through a name thing today. My best friend and I were discussing what we would name our respective children, when we got married and started families. My names were:

Olivia Nicole
and
Taylor Jacob

Aren't those cute?! (She said no) But anyway favorite names, anyone?

I am feeling Olivia Nicole! Wasn't that the name of Raven Symone's character on the Cosby Show? Anyway, it is deinitely cute! when I first read it I said 'AWWW!" Now as for Taylor Jacob, I'm gonna have to agree with your friend...How about Tyler or Trevor? Those are really adorable! Jacob? I don't know......

bklyndelta 07-27-2000 01:49 AM

Well Nubian, TAYLOR has my vote hands down because Taylor is my daughter's name!!! LOL LOL I'll have to agree with Sexy Mocha, I don't know about Jacob. And I'm definitely not feelin' Olivia Nicole , but the choice is yours. Then again, if you put it up against Sha-nae-nae and Bonequiesha, OLIVIA NICOLE wins hands down!!! ROFL ROFL

Besides, what's your husband's name?? (He might want to have his say.) LOL LOL

Well I'm only 20 years old but when I do have children http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I want four (2 girls ...2 boys). But the thing is I can't take pain http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif so I'm thinking about adopting http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif or having a c-section http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif but I wouldn't dare change their names unless I felt the need http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif.

Anyway the names I'm considering at this moment are:

Girls:

Kayla Denise (Denise is my best friends middle name)
Taylor Diane (my godmother's middle name)

BOYS:

Micah (biblical prophet in OT) Donnell
Josiah Nahum (both biblical names)

By the way your names are adorable as well...but I don't know about the jacob...

Hello,
My crazy behind would like to have 8 children. That is if I am living beyond my needs. My mother had three girls and I think I would like three girls myself. I would give them names that like to each other. Three I would like are Harmony, Melody, and Symphony. I like the names of Queens, and also Greek myths. I have done my research so I know what names not to use. I do like the story of Olivia found in the olive tree. It was so sad. I love reading it. Well I could think of a whole list of other names but I can't write them all down.

OK, so Jacob is not a GREAT middle name. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I've said it aloud so I know it just doesn't sound right, but it seemed OK in theory, but my thing is, all of the men in my family have the iniials TJ, I was trying to figure out an OK middle name that begins with J.

Brkln: Husband? I guess he would have some input too, shoot! lol http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Oh, well I have ages before I have to think about that anyway, I'm trying to graduate beofore I marry and have kids.

Here are some J names that i think sound good w/ Taylor..

Taylor Jamal
Taylor Jaden (pronounced Jay-den)
Taylor Javen (pronounced Jay-ven)
Taylor Jeremiah
Taylar Josef (pronounced Joseph)

Positive Kay 07-28-2000 03:16 AM

Hey yall...

I'm hooked on Brionna and Imani (ee'mon'nee) for a girl and Mahkai, Michael, Bryan and Chandler for a boy.

NOTE***If use your son's initials for his "ID", the boy's first and middle name have to sound good when you use the first two initials of those names for his nickname (CJ for Chandler Jamar just for example). I say this because I heard a woman call her son Al J. It sounded weird to me. Sorry for the slight putdown.

I have a friend that has a friend (are you following me) that named her daughter:

Heavenly (first) Blessing (middle)

What do you think about that?

That is quite different. I don't think i would name my daughter that but I'm sure she has a very good reason as to naming her daughter that. I wonder how her daughter will respond to her name when she gets older ...what is her nickname if she has one?

assiduous04 07-29-2000 05:51 PM

Here are my fav's (my friends think they are ugly!!!)

Girl

Chandler Rae

Boy

Schyler(pronounced sky-ler) Chase

humblebumblebee 07-29-2000 10:00 PM

My all time favorite name is Mackenzie, suitable for both boys and girls (although my mom thinks it is the most God-awful name known to man).

Question: How do you all feel about girls with "boy" names, like Jordan, Tony, or (like a good friend on mine) Michael. Personally I like "guy" names for girls, probably because one of my nicknames in Ronny.

Ms Public Service 07-29-2000 10:34 PM

Nubian,

I vote for the name Taylor. My son name is Taylor St. Albert. Albert is my father's first name and St. Albert is also my brother's middle name.

I am not feeling the name Jacob. What is your father's first name? Maybe you can use your father's first or middle name for your future son's middle name.

Nubian I do not know about you, but I do not like any name that you can add La, Ta, etc. in the front of the root name.

i like boy names for girls too and mackenzie is one of my favorites i also like

Ryan for a girl.

A friend of mine has a niece named A'Precious Desire

the most unusual spelling I've seen for a name is "Khoices" (which is pronounced choices go, figure!!!) If I'm not mistaken, the letter K does not make the ch sound, am I wrong????

mancala 07-30-2000 02:08 AM

the names that i like are soooo off the wall. I really like the idea of guy names for girls, but at the same time i like h's and y's. I want to name my daughter, Londhyn (like the bridge) Raye or Londhyn Capri. I have been told that that was the ugliest thing, but for some reason it keeps stikin with me. But buy the time that i have children i would have probably come up with something else.

Be safe everyone. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

humblebumblebee 07-30-2000 03:29 PM

If you think "Khocies" is um, different... wait to you hear my former bestfriend's name: Piashon, pronounced "passion". I couldn't imagine going through life with a name like Piashon or Precious; how do you take that name seriously. If my mother and father had the NERVE to name me somthing like that, I would pull an R. Kelly-- you would have to call me P. (insert last name here). http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif

Hi all,
I love picking out names for babies. I picked out my niece's name, it is Jasmine Latrice. For a little girl, I think the name Aryel (ah-ree-el)is pretty. And for boys I like the names Sheridan, and Jordan. I like Mckenzie also. I also think a pretty name for a girl or a boy is Tristan.
Peace and Luv to you all,
Ambitious

Names are my little hobby, so I've given this a lot of thought.

If I'm into family:

Rebecca LaRue (grandmothers middle names)
Reginald Jackson (father and grandfather)

Into what sounds good

Faith Elizabeth
Grace Ireene

and

Issac Anthony
Griffin Channing

Into names with a story:

Sarah (Regina means Queen, Sarah means Princess)
Athena (Minerva sorors)
Helen (of Troy)
Corrizon Inderia (Corrizon Aquino- first woman prime minister of the phillipines Inderia Ghandi- first woman prime minister of India)
Antigone (fought the system to do right by her family)

Nubian 07-31-2000 04:08 PM

I love names with meaning, especially familial meaning.

I thought about giving a girl the same initials as my mother JM.

I was thinking:
Jaden Marie
Jaylyn Marie

I also really love my nieces name,

Christyana Marie

Too bad my sister thought of it first!

I'm not too good with making up names, but I think that Brooklyn is a cute girl name. I have only told that name to two of my friends and one liked it and one didn't. I would like to hear someone's opinion.

carebear 08-01-2000 08:52 AM

I like Brooklyn...a fellow unionite (member of my school) name is Brooklyn...she is sweet as can be...so it works

carebear 08-01-2000 08:54 AM

I like Brooklyn...a fellow unionite (member of my school) name is Brooklyn...she is sweet as can be...so it works..Its funny because as I was going through a list of names w/ my best friend...she liked the ones I didn't care for that much and vice versa I liked the ones that she didn't care for so she said she would just call my children baby girl or some other form of a nickname...

by the way, My cousin had a little boy this past Saturday...his name is Jayden Christopher Lewis http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif! I'm proud of my little cousin http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif! He is the cutest little thing in the whole world http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif!

Gabrielle Marcellus for a boy
(after my great-grandmother Marcella)

dst-sunshine1 08-08-2001 11:17 AM

Well, I already have a little boy who I chose to give my mothers' maiden name: Campbell.
People get real confused, they always think it's his last name.

Kimmie1913 08-09-2001 12:08 AM

I guess I am fairly conservaticve when it comes to names. Like another poster, I am not too big on names that have La's and SHas tacked on to the end or beginning. I also am not so big on names that are far from phonetically correct as they can get (ie- it is not a foreign name but a made up name that you could not pronounce if you tried!)

I love the name Jalen but my boyfriend's son (and maybe one day my step son- MAYVE) is named Jalen.

Names I like are
Girls:
Kelsy
Ryan
Danielle
Peyton
Morgan
Sisiley
and others...

I am not as sure of moys names that I like though.

I would like to incorporate eiher m grandmothers name (Lillian) my mothers name (Mae ELizabeth) or my favorite aunt's name (Betty Ann) in somehow.

My father and brother have my grandmother on that sides last name as their first name so they are both named Walker. (and yes, they hear Walker, Texas Ranger jokes, as well as being called Walter)

Here are a few that I have chosen for other people since I don't forsee any bambinos in my near future...

God-daughter: Makayla Arnitra
Nephew: KaDarrius DaQuan
Niece: Kira Lynnette (mom's name is Nette and grandmom's name is Lynn)

But I like the names:
girl-----Taylor, Jasmine, Janiece, and JaVon
boy------Christopher, Kaylen, Jordon and Brandon

Whatever I decide...I know that one of my children will have my maiden name as his/her middle name.
