Pansies!!!!!

For the past few days I have been in Gatlinburg,TN (never been? need to go!) and I must say I havent seen as many pansies in one place as I did when i was there. Not only are all of the flowers planted there pansies, but in just about every store you can find something to buy with pansies on it, and in some cases many things! I bought a framed piece of pansy art for my evolving pansy bathroom, a pansy suncatcher, and a pansy magnet! Aside from these items, the place we stayed at, in the lobby had pansy pillows on the sofas! I even saw pansy hat boxes, other framed pansy things, pansy socks, pansy jewlery, pansy ceramic items, candles, crystal.........a pansy heaven ladies!!!!!! :)

We do love pansies here in the South!

And I just spotted a beautiful set of pansy salt & pepper shakers in the Winterthur catelog that I have never seen before. Mary, you are going to love these!

I love those Patti!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm actually incorporating pansies and our colors and another things or two into the wedding.

And speaking of salt and pepper shakers, Gatlinburg,TN has a Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum(not open in the off season though so we didnt get to go inside)--right next to an awesome winery and place where they sell homemade jams, jellies, peanut butters, etc.

A teacher I know just got back from Gatlinburg last week, where she got married. I said,"I heard on a message board that there are pansies everywhere in Gatlinburg! Did you see a lot?" and she said, "OMG, they were everywhere...our maitre'd, most of the porters in our hotel, guys in the shops..." and I suddenly realized that she wasn't talking about flowers and told her that I meant the flowers.

She said, "Oh. The town is covered with them."

Thank you sweetie . . .

Thats kind of an . . . ugly flower isn't it? ITs like yellow with splotches . . .

tunatartare 05-16-2005 11:00 PM

Haha pansies come in colors other than black and gold.

Waiting to see if any Thetas on here attack you for bashing their flower, lol.

ThetaPrincess24 05-17-2005 12:42 AM

:p to James :)

I like all colors of the Pansy. My Pansy bathroom has all the different kinds of pansies in it.

There is a reason why we chose that particular color combo, but if we told you we'd have to kill you :) hahaha :D

I'm kidding. It is beautiful part of our ritual so we cant tell ya buddy sorry!

Hey James-

I hope this doesn't sound terribly rude and inhospitable, but we really don't care what you think of our flower :p

HAHAHAHAHA!

Peaches-n-Cream 05-18-2005 10:27 AM

I have noticed pansies all over NYC so maybe it's just that time of year.

They always looked like smiling faces to me. :)

I never realized it but now that I think about it and look at the pansies we have planted, I think you're right!!! :)

I was watching TV the other day, and I don't remember the show I was watching, but I do remember a commercial for Miracle Grow because the guy was potting black and gold pansies.

On another note... Pansies are really easy to press flat in books. I've done that, and I essentially decopaged it into my journal. It's really cool looking. Easy craft idea.

You can also make book covers just press pansies (or any good flower for pressing) and put them between two layers of clear contac paper.

You can also make beautiful crystalized pansies for decorating cakes and such. (Pansies are edible if grown correctly.) In general, I don't eat them, but I do make sure they are safe for decorating food.

Carefully wash and fully dry pansies

beat one egg white until uniform - not looking for peaks or anything, just want to fully break up the white.

use a clean paint brush (one you've reserved only for food) to brush the egg white carefully all over a pansy (both sides)

sprinkle the pansy all over with sugar (better yet, superfine sugar - make your own by whirling regular sugar in a food processor)

set on waxed paper to set fully

Keep for a long time in an airtight container.

On the night of my initiation, my big sister gave me a wooden pin box that she had painted and painted our letters on in gold. On teh top of the pin box she had pressed a yellow pansy and used some kind of glue/hodgepodge/whatever to keep it on the box and to keep it from crumbling off. It was pretty cool!

ThetaPrincess24 06-01-2005 06:21 PM

I'm now in the process of framing two pansy puzzles that my gramma worked and put hodgepodge on to preserve them. One is a complete circle. I didnt know they made circular puzzles but I guess they do! I have to find a mounting to fit it before I can frame it though. A special circular frame would cost a fortune!

The other puzzle is quite a bit smaller and has pansies all around this little teaparty setting with pansy decor on the china.

I'm putting both of them in my pansy bathroom! :)

One of this ladies bracelets was posted in the ADPi forum because she made one with violets, but I thought you girls might be interested in all her pansy stuff. You can find it at Tana's Workshop on Ebay

And here is a sample of what she makes:

Tana's Pansies

I actually bought two bracelets and I guess she didn't close the box tight enough. They got opened and sent back to her. She immediately informed me and sent me something special in addition for my troubles. She worked w/me on when she would send it because I ordered them right before we went on vacation and so I didn't want them sitting there waiting for us.

Great seller, beautiful creations!

I recently discovered a cool party idea. YOu take an all white dinner plate, place a pansy flat on it, then take a smaller (like a dessert plate) that is clear and place that plate over top of the pansy on the white plate. It looks really cool especially for a themed party and FYI Hosta leaves, and oak leaves in the fall work well with this too!
