I dunno about that. My feeling is that USC is just that damned good.

Well, OU won't be back to that game for a few years. Losing 16 starters this year. Of course, after last night, maybe that's a good thing?

While this might be true, OU sucked pretty badly on both sides of the ball. Not a strong endorsement for the Big 8 when the team that ran the league over for 3 years gets rolled out this year, and got beat pretty soundly last year . . . Just saying is all.

kstar 01-06-2005 09:55 PM

Dude, the Big 8 hasn't existed in forEVer.

And OU just didn't play that day.

Of course, when a college team plays a pro team, what else do you expect?

*snicker* Of course, I'm not impliying anything about the University of Spoiled Children... But they should be aware of what happened to other schools that did that...

huh?

face it, y'all were out played in everyway. And now everyone FINALLY knows how good USC is.

cutiepatootie 01-06-2005 11:49 PM

I am a big norte dame fan ( my whole family are diehards) and i LOVE LOVE LOVE any team who will beat USC ( and i am from so calif) but i was sooooooooo wanting USC to BEAT THE #($*$&#$ out of OU......so i could call my ex husband in Oklahoma City the other night and laugh my ass off because his beloved OU ALMA MATER SUCKED badly!

Um, Bobby was referring to OU when he was saying Over rated. Don't get too excited. ;)

AOII_LB93 01-07-2005 01:21 AM

I think one of the things it comes down to is psychology...of the quarterback...you have one that choked last year, and one that came through all year. Why wouldn't White choke again? Well, that and did you see that first interception? What was that pass? And let's not even get into bad decisions by punt returners.

I'm not a USC fan by any means, but it's about time that the west coast bias get shoved into the faces of the sportscasters. I'm sure had SC lost we'd never be hearing the end of it. Yay SC...and it's not the University of Spoiled Children..it's Univ. of South Central, come on now. ;)

kstar 01-07-2005 02:24 AM

USC didn't beat OU, we beat ourselves. We allowed more turnovers than we had all season.

However, what I was implying (and Amycat was too dense to pick up on), was that there are rumors of inappropriate Booster club donations to the USC players... I hope that USC would have learned what happens to teams that have NCAA infractions, but I mean, even OU had to learn the lessons the hard way... And in socal where you can buy anything, why not be able to buy a National Championship?

Also, you're a college graduate, or at least in college, and you aren't from the South, never again use the word y'all.

Ahh, the rivalry fever took over and I didn't read Bobby's post clearly! Yes, the Trojan hatred runs deep!

But, don't worry Amycat, one of my best friends went to USC and I have been hearing how awesome you all are ALL week!

In case you missed it (or should i say "were too dense to pick it up" le sigh), I was using "big 8" as a perjorative, kiddo. Cute though, I loooooooove the insinuation of impropriety at USC, because obviously the GREAT OU FOOTBALL PROGRAM (c) has never been accused of such things. There's never been large-scale car-and-money programs there in the 70s and early 80s. Never.

OH, and a good friend of my family's who works in a major college athletic dept never lost a recruit to OU because, in his exact words, "we couldn't afford him." Funny, the only other school that ever happened with was Nebraska . . . go big 8. You are not a unique snowflake - almost every major football program has problems with booster money, whether they like it or not. Knock off the apologist garbage.

You got your asses kicked - don't act like USC is doing something wrong to cover it up. Take your medicine and shut up - the big8 (or should i say "XIII") has been overrated for years. Stoops should have taken the Florida job when he had the chance.

1. I have no allegiance to either team, but I watched the game and even without so many turnovers, I think OU still would have been beaten pretty easily. And I'm always of the opinion that a couple turnovers might be your fault, but more than that and obviously the opposing defense is doing something very right.

2. OK, sour grapes, no need to be so nasty to someone simply because they didn't understand your oddly-worded post!

3. Do you know if she's not from the South? I'm from Michigan and seriously considered USC. AND, there are plenty of intelligent, Southern posters on GC who type "y'all" all the time and I would venture to guess use it in their everday speech as well.

OU Allowed turnovers because USC is amongst the best in the nation at FORCING them. You lost because your team made mistakes, sure. But also because USC is very good and OU had not faced a defense like ours all season. (I got this stat from either SI or ESPN)

If you'd made yourself CLEAR in your post, maybe I would have known what you were talking about. Those rumors have surrounded EVERY successful football program for eons. And yes, I have heard them about OU.

Me dense. lol That's good. Can you hear me laughing all the way from the plains of OK?

Accept your defeat gracefully. You are not representing your school well by whining. You lost. However it happened you did. I know it sucks, but its a fact.

Had Y'ALL won, I am sure Y'ALL would NEVER have let me hear the end of it, so calm down, KTHXBI. However, other OU fans on this board have shared a more good natured rivalry with me.

I wont' use y'all if you'll pull your head out of your behind and stop being such a little snot.

You know I was born in the south and live in the north now, and people up here use y'all more than they did in the south. Honestly it's a word that has snuck into american vernacular, and if you're going to get grumpy about people using it then please feel free to move someplace they don't use it.

Or maybe you were too dense to pick up on that...

Dude, they don't really play anyone that good. Same as OU, who do they play thats really worth a damn? U match USC or OU up with any of the 10 best teams in the SEC and they wont look as good.

valkyrie 01-07-2005 03:13 PM

Y'all, I think my cats could've beaten Oklahoma in that game. Even taking into account the fact that I have like 900 cats, that's still pretty sucky. A loss is a loss, so what's the point of making excuses? If a teams beats themselves (whatever that means) they still go home at the end of the day LOSERS.

Good thing my team won its bowl game anyway. That was the best game EVAR.

Heh, I love it when people can respond to a blowout loss with such class. Oh, wait . . .

Let's not pretend that the inappropriate booster club donations aren't happening at just about every Division I school in the country. That would be pretty naive of us, don't you think? This is especially true of the big football schools, like -- I don't know, Oklahoma's probably up there.

And I'll say "y'all" if I want to, sweetheart.

If the game were to be played again next week, the outcome MIGHT be different. Both teams appeared to measure up to each other very well -- at least on paper.

There is NO DOUBT that Southern California was by far and away the better team January 4, though.

You just can't hide behind "mistakes" in a loss. A lot of Oklahoma's "mistakes" were generated by S.C.

The winners played a near perfect game, and the losers played way below their norm.

At the end of the day (or the game), S.C. won and O.U. lost. That won't change. Time to admit it and move on.

One of the tabbies can play fetch, so this might work. He'd catch the ball but he might not know where to run with it. I can fill the end zone with catnip and running water and maybe he'd make it there.

We could have it be my tabby too...he will come running for the whisker lickins that are the beef flavor...just plant those in the endzone when he gets the ball!

Thank you! (GO YANKS!)

I was an undergrad at OU back in the days of Saint Barry Switzer (saint he ain't) and it wasn't unusual to walk up past the stadium and the Bud Wilkinson 'jock dorm' and see some players like Danny Bradley (the QB back then, his son currently plays on the team) driving a late-model car. Where did he get it? Who knows... but as long as they didn't get caught red-handed, unlikely any major sanctions would come down on them. Even then, all they'd get was the loss of a few recruiting slots and scholarships, but nothing serious to completely jeopardize the moneymaker that is OU football. Everyone has seen the example the NCAA made out of SMU's football program.

Yes, my Sooners got mauled by a better team. Congrats USC on winning the National Champeenship.

Hmmm... Valkyrie's Kitties vs. (insert team). Bring 'em on! :D

Got ya beat... hell, I was there with my younger brother at the Orange Bowl way back 20 years ago! Still have the ticket stub. Crummy west end zone seats, but whaddaya expect for $25 apiece back then? Got a pic somewhere of the infamous Sooner Schooner incident. Betcher ass the Ruf-Neks (the all-male pep squad and custodians of the Sooner Schooner) ain't committing that mistake again!

ETA: Ahh, the miracle of computer technology!

Wow, I finally got to read this thread.

Jeezus sister, you really need to get that stick outta your ass. Your team lost and I have never ever seen a better example of a poor loser until I read your stupid "I can buy a National Championship" post.

I'm just sooooo glad that we have classy OU fans here, you're clearly not one of them.

And finally....

Those from the South can throw me in jail if they want to. It just had to be said. I don't think I've ever read a more tragic post till I got to yours.

kstar 01-08-2005 11:47 PM

Sore loser? only as much as amypussy is a sore winner... And how come nobody jumped down her throat last year when she was whining about how USC should have been the National Champs? AP poll my ass...

And we played a bad game, I don't know if socal would have won if the game was played again, though. However, OU has been under close scrutiny as to the use of donations, and I fully stated that OU did have to learn their lesson the hard way. Doesn't look like socal did though...

Amypussy: I should have known that you couldn't read between the lines, I mean, you bought (are buying) your degree. Also, calling me a little snot is amusing, considering that I don't have half the superiority complex that you have.

Others: Calling me sweetheart and kiddo, and generally being condescending is only going to encourage me to not read your posts.

And to whoever said that there is a prejudice against the Pac10, it's because the conference as a whole sucks. It didn't stop them from being the media's darling though, I think if anything, there is a prejudice against OU.
