Movies That Put You to Sleep

Just saw Alexander yesterday and I fell asleep for the entire flix. Just wondering, what movies did you watch at the theatre that put you to sleep?

lauralaylin 12-29-2004 07:22 PM

Van Helsing. I heard it was bad, but I almost did fall asleep and I never do that when the tv is on.

Some people might be shocked, but Gangs of New York knocked me out at the theaters!

Lady Pi Phi 12-29-2004 07:25 PM

Gangs of New York.

I thought it was a terrile movie and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy too long. I had to periodically walk in and out of the room in order to stay awake.

ETA: I posted at the same time as OTW...so no, I wouldn't be surprised at all :D

Tippiechick 12-29-2004 07:34 PM

Speed 2. I fell right asleep, and so did 2 of my friends.

chideltjen 12-29-2004 07:46 PM

Alex and Emma.

I was begging myself not to fall asleep because I was hoping it would get better, but it didn't.

Me too! I still haven't seen that movie. It happens EVERYTIME! I'm really into the subject matter, but it's lullaby time every time I try to watch it. I gave up.

Sister Havana 12-29-2004 09:22 PM

Anything I ever watched in class. :D

Seriously, it didn't matter what it was. It was a combination of classroom, lights off, and movie that knocked me out every time.

Cold Mountain

Tippiechick 12-29-2004 10:44 PM

Cold Mountain? OMG, I am amazed. I thought that movie was awesome. Although, it did take me about 10 minutes to get into it.

33girl 12-29-2004 10:58 PM

I've fallen asleep at several really good movies, not because I was bored but because I always fall asleep in cold places. I've fallen asleep watching speed metal bands because the bar was cold.

But anyway, the movie that always puts me to sleep is (ducking) Silence of the Lambs. I've tried to get through it like 4 times and I never can.

The Little Prince (1974)
Plot summary: Based on the story by Antoine deSaint-Exupery, this magical musical fable begins as a pilot (Richard Kiley) makes a forced landing on the barren Sahara Desert. He is befriended by a "little" prince from the planet Asteroid B-612. In the days that follow, the pilot learns of the small boy's history and planet-hopping journeys in which he met a King, a businessman, an historian, and a general. It isn't until he comes to Earth that the Little Prince learns the secrets of the importance of life from a Fox (Gene Wilder), a Snake (Bob Fosse), and the pilot.

My Dinner with Andre (1981)

Plot summary: Wallace Shawn and Andre Gregory, apparently playing themselves, share their lives over the course of an evening meal at a restaurant. Gregory, a theater director from New York, is the more talkative of the pair. He relates to Shawn his tales of dropping out, traveling around the world, and experiencing the variety of ways people live, such as a monk who could balance his entire weight on his fingertips. Shawn listens avidly, but questions the value of Gregory's seeming abandonment of the pragmatic aspects of life.

Joe Vs. The Volcano

You've Got Mail

Sleepless in Seattle

I'm going to get flamed here, but Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan should never be allowed to be in a film together. Tom Hanks = awesome, Meg = eh. Together, I can't make myself stay awake/not vomitting.

KillarneyRose 12-30-2004 02:52 AM

I fell asleep during Lord of the Rings. Mr. KillarneyRose still gives me crap about that

JupiterTC 12-30-2004 03:06 AM

Castaway...need I say more???

carol9a 12-30-2004 05:15 AM

Name any sci-fi movie and I will fall asleep to it.

AOIIsilver 12-30-2004 11:43 AM

Ishtar

tinydancer 12-30-2004 12:40 PM

The Big Chill (yeah, I'll get flamed for that!) I've tried to watch it several times and after about 15 minutes, I'm out.

OMG YES! I could not STAND You've Got Mail. I felt myself start to drift off. But then again it's really hard for me to just fall asleep in a theater.

I had a friend completely pass out during "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." Luckily she doesn't snore.

PureGoldF2K1 12-31-2004 12:55 AM

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind..the concept is really interesting, but the dreamsequence seemed to drag on forever

lyrica9 12-31-2004 02:19 AM

2001.
never fails.

Agreed, on all points. I abhor Meg Ryan.

Alexander such a horrible movie. Feel bad that my parents wasted the money on the tickets (and we were in NJ and they charged like 9 bucks to see a movie, rip off if you ask me)

Gangs of New York tried but could not get into this movie, found it entirely boring

Castaway the thing is I adore Tom Hanks but this movie was horrible. Waaaayyyyy to long.

Now I haven't seen it but my parents fell asleep during The English Patient

ADqtPiMel 12-31-2004 09:24 PM

All of the Lord of the Rings movies, Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers

moe.ron 01-01-2005 11:59 AM

The Perfect Storm was the perfect snore for me.

jillybean 01-01-2005 08:13 PM

I agree with everyone on the Meg Ryan films. She is annoying and she looks terrible these days.

No matter how hard I try, I can't get into the Harry Poter movies (or books for that matter) and although I like the LOTR films, I did fall asleep during the 3rd one. That may have been a fluke though!

orchid2 01-01-2005 08:58 PM

I fell asleep in the theater during "The Whole Ten Yards"

terrible movie, imo

I could never really get into LOTR or even Harry Potter movies either, just not my thing... I know people that are sooo obsessed with both though.

Here, here.

The only reason I managed to sit through that movie was for Mark Whalberg. I kept yelling at the tv (since I saw it on dvd) telling them not to be so stupid.

LOL It's good to know I'm not the only one who does that!

PM_Mama00 01-02-2005 12:31 AM

I fell asleep during Elf. I think I was just super tired.
