Other Types of Music

I noticed that a lot of us listen to other types of music besides R&B. What do you like to listen to. For me: Merengue, Alternative, Salsa.. Feel free to talk about music groups also

Alias_01 07-18-2001 07:46 PM

I am mainly a hip-hop head but I pretty much get down with any kind of music...accept for COUNTRY (uggghhh)
You name it I probably have music from all of the genres..I think thats how I influence my own music.

Steeltrap 07-18-2001 08:49 PM

Mainstream jazz, the good old John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton stuff. Kenny G isn't jazz.

pebbles_6 07-20-2001 11:29 AM

Aside from R&B, I listen to a lot of Alternative, Top 40ish, Rock type music...Some of my favorites are the Wallflowers, Everclear, Natalie Merchant...I love Lenny Kravitz. Just to name a few. But I can really listen to anything EXCEPT country, gangster rap, and classical.

Salsa and merengue is hot too.

MURDERER - Buju Banton

Chorus:
Murderer! Blood upon your shoulders
Kill I today you cannot kill I tomorrow
Murder! Your insides must be hollow
How does it feel to take the life of another

Yes, you can hide from man but not your conscience
You eat the bread of sorrow
Drink the wine of violence
Allow yourself to be conquered by the serpent
Why did you disobey the first commandment
Walk through the valley I fear no pestilence
God is my witness and He is my evidence
Lift up mine eyes from whence cometh help
You will never escape this judgement.....

RENEEDST_22 07-20-2001 07:11 PM

I basically listen to most genres of music, with the exception of about 3 or 4, but deep house music is the only genre that can keep me on the dance floor ALL NIGHT. I'm talking at least 4-6 consecutive hours of dancing.
*I *heart* Masters at Work and music from Paradise Garage (although I never made it there being to young and all at the time - sigh)*

I'm with you, I like a little bit of everything. My music collection goes from Wu-Tang and M.O.P. to Alanis Morrisette to the soundtrack for Phantom of the Opera. I'm just a music person, period. My father listened to Miles Davis and John Coltrane and my mother listened to the Beatles and Janice Joplin. I grew up listening to R&B and hip-hop. So, I'm a mixture, musically and otherwise. :)

KSUViolet06 12-31-2005 10:05 PM

I'm very much a hip hop girl, but I get into Fall Out Boy and Maroon 5 (alternative).

BLUTANG 01-03-2006 04:08 PM

music is my life!

Although my radio is set to the "urban adult" station, my cd collection is full of traditional jazz, rock/light metal, and gospel.

Lately i've been adding latin jazz and 80's pop to the collection.

nikki1920 01-03-2006 05:50 PM

80s
80s rock music (I *heart* Motley Crue!)
jazz
hip hop (Little Brother and The Foreign Exchange)
old school rap
pop
a little country (Reba and Faith)
R&B
and Metallica. They get their own designation.. lol.

UrbanizdSkillz 01-03-2006 06:01 PM

I listen to everything EXCEPT acid/heavy metal rock. Yes, I even listen to country.

Honeykiss1974 01-03-2006 06:06 PM

I listen primarily to the Christian version of R&B/Hip hop. Here is my FAVORITE station. If you've never listened to contemporary christan "R&B or Hip hop" you will be amazed!

http://www.zradio.org/player/player_platinum_hot.html

I also listen to alternative and rock (again mostly Christian) although I will forever love me some Madonna, No Doubt, and anything 80s!!!!!

I can't do country although I do like Sarah Harmer (is she even considered country?)

christiangirl 01-03-2006 06:11 PM

I'm a BIG fan of Contemporary Christian, I like it more than Gospel b/c it's what I grew up on.....so Natalie Grant, Stacie Orrico, ZoeGirl, Jeremy Camp, Casting Crowns, all great to me! I still don't know many Gospel artists at all, but I listen to it now more than I used to. I also love alternative more than hip/hop, I'm big on Jason Mraz, Barenaked Ladies, Lifehouse, Bowling for Soup, and I'm getting into Maroon 5.

oOogirlygirloOo 01-03-2006 07:39 PM

I love music with that 70s disco sound.

I'm digging that new single (and video) by Madonna called "Hung up." That takes me back to that era.

I'm an old soul when it comes to music.

ladylike 01-04-2006 03:16 PM

I love any type of music, from classic r+b (with the Philly sound) to hard rock (I love Led Zeppelin's "Cashmir"). My mother raised me on country (Dolly Parton, Ricky Skaggs, Kenny Rogers) and blues (Koko Taylor and Johnny "Guitar" Watson) and my grandma made sure I had big doses of gospel. I just love music. :)

I have in my cd player:

Best of Phyllis Hyman (such a beautiful voice)
John Coltrane's Love Supreme
Maroon 5 (I have a "secret" crush on Adam Levine o: )
Toni Tony Tone's House of Blues
Miles Davis' Love Songs
Tye Tribbett & GA's Life

[sidebar] Urbanizd--I've really been thinking about getting Kirk's new cd Hero. I didn't care too much for Rebirth or Nu Nation Project (loved him w/ "the Family" and "GP"). Out of four stars, how many would you give Hero? [/end sidebar]

One of my closest friends went to school with Phonte. Phonte guests on Foreign Exchange with Nicolay, and my friend played it the ENTIRE time I was in ATL this weekend. Its a hip hop/jazz combo thing that works well. I like it. :)

You must learn to love classical, it's good for the soul, lol. I actually learned to appreciate it because I had to study it. Once I did that and kind of understood what I was listening to, it was okay to me.

Yes we have music in common song game rival :)

Sorry I JUST noticed this! Anyhow, it's most DEFINITELY 4 out of 4 stars. Then again, I'm a Kirk Franklin fan. You should visit Amazon and check out the CD snippets but I personally believe this is one of his best albums.

tld221 01-07-2006 11:46 AM

just starting to get into jazz and blues.

anyone into african music? starting to get into koru and wossolou. to me it sounds like a cross between hip-hop, indian and soca. which makes sense since music genres come from each other more or less.

as far as hip-hop & r&b are concerned, im pretty much stuck to 1992--1998. so if anyone wants to make me a 90s mix, im with it.

* ending post as babyface's "when can i see you again" comes on *
(and just realized that this is the last song me and my ex listened to together :( )
