NPC Competition

Name one other NPC group that is/was your group's main competition on your campus:

On my campus it was:

Phi Mu

KSUViolet06 12-15-2004 03:56 AM

It's funny because no one on my campus competes with any other group. We all send each other big good luck cakes before recruitment and have all Panhellenic socials to cut down on that sort of competitiveness.

NutBrnHair 12-15-2004 04:00 AM

Yeah...Panhellenic spirit & all...

I guess I'm speaking more about Recruitment (Rush) -- those numbers tell who your competition is/was...

I'm not so sure about numbers-wise but alot of girls who preffed us also preffed Delta Zeta and Alpha Xi Delta. They are both pretty awesome.

33girl 12-15-2004 10:54 AM

Alpha Sigma Tau.

DolphinChicaDDD 12-15-2004 11:13 AM

Zeta Tau Alpha

although the last semester, Delta Zeta was getting up there. They did an awesome job picking up COBers post formal and had a pledge class of like 20

I wouldn't say we have one main competitor... we kind of fill a niche market. The other four sororities could almost be paired up - I saw a lot of PNMs pref Alpha Phi and Sigma Kappa, or Alpha Chi Omega and Kappa Alpha Theta, but rarely would you see anyone pref, say, Alpha Phi and Theta.

Edit: I guess it's safe to name names :)

OleMissGlitter 12-15-2004 11:19 AM

hmmm....that is tough this year for recruitment 2004 most girls that came to AOII's pref also went to Kappa Delta, Phi Mu, Pi Beta Phi, and Kappa. I would say Pi Beta Phi, Kappa, and Phi Mu are our big competitors during recruitment. Although, Theta is always there too.

xo_kathy 12-15-2004 11:25 AM

When I was there, it was Alpha Chi Omega
I hear now it is Alpha Xi Delta

Little E 12-15-2004 11:56 AM

:)
we were the only NPC

so we only competed with locals

very different choices.

Glitter650 12-15-2004 12:36 PM

there's only 3 chapters on my campus... so we all are competition with one another. Our pref parties are usuall filled pretty equally with girls who went to the other two chapters from what I can tell.

PsychTau 12-15-2004 12:48 PM

When I was in school, there were 4 NPC sororities on campus. We seemed to be "paired" with each other (competitively)...the two larger sororities shared some of the same PNMs (and some of the same chapter characteristics), while AST and ASA shared some of the same PNMs and the same chapter characteristics.

NPC groups at my school all seem to have a different sorority they compete with during different events.

are competitors are Gamma Phi Beta for grades and songfest and we compete with them and two others for recruitment. Although we have a habit of not cross prefing with just one or two sororities but all of them, so it's hard to pinpoint who we compete with for recruitment.

I also know the gammas and pi phi's compete like crazy for derby dayz and intramurals:)

ADPiZXalum 12-15-2004 02:08 PM

For us it was KD, for rush and pretty much everything else.

Well, KD and AXO.

WVU alpha phi 12-15-2004 03:32 PM

For rush, our big competitors are Kappa Kappa Gamma, Alpha Xi Delta, and usually Delta Gamma.

For stuff like airbands, our big competitor is usually Alpha Xi. All the other philanthropies and things, it really just depends on the frat and the event.

EPTriSigma 12-15-2004 03:36 PM

We always compete with Gamma Phi Beta during recruitment. It's all in fun though. We are the two largest chapters on campus and always get about the same amount of girls.

Come to think of it we compete with Gamma Phi in almost every event.... homecoming, greek week... and so on

KillarneyRose 12-15-2004 04:32 PM

Waaaaaaay back when, it was Chi Omega and Tri Delta. Now I understand it's Chi Omega, KKG and KD

shadokat 12-15-2004 05:50 PM

Always Phi Sigma Sigma and Alpha Sigma Alpha for recruitment!! But it's all good natured, which is nice.

winneythepooh7 12-15-2004 06:26 PM

SDT & AEPhi. The locals were not really too known on our campus.

Xylochick216 12-15-2004 07:50 PM

Our main "competition" in recruitment was Sigma Kappa. A lot of girls went to both our houses for pref. We went after a lot of the same girls as AOII, too.

In sports (Greek Week, Derby Days, Sorority Football League, etc.), our main competition was AOII. People try to play up a huge rivalry between us and AOII all the time, but I think it's because we have a lot of similar girls.

scuthetagirl 12-16-2004 05:01 PM

Since we're so new, and DZ left SCU when I was a freshman, for a couple of years DG and Alpha Phi were the only NPC sororities on campus, and there weren't any local non-multicultural sororities, either. They built up quite a competition with each other because all girls were crosspreferencing them. They both got 100% returns, so the only thing standing between them and getting the girls that they wanted was the other sorority. Now that we're here, I think that their rivalry continues to some extent, although I'd like to think that our presence has relieved some of the tension. We tend to stay out of it.

That's interesting, because Phi Sigma Sigma is colonizing at my alma mater this spring, and there's currently only 2 sororities: Alpha Phi and Gamma Phi Beta. Admittedly things sometimes got a little overly competitive, and it was the hope of both groups that tensions would ease up once there was a third option for women to choose from. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what happens.

The B Girl 12-19-2004 06:44 PM

Ours was KD. Mostly because we had similar type of girls, socialized around the same fraternities, and were always #1 or #2 in derbys, Greek Week, etc.

PureGoldF2K1 12-19-2004 06:57 PM

When I first joined in Fall 2001, our main competition was ADPi. But things always change throughout the years and now it seems to be Chi O and KD.

hannahgirl 12-20-2004 01:42 AM

ADPi.

all the sororities on campus are competing against ADPi (recruitment, greek week, songfest, etc).

emleepc 12-21-2004 04:24 PM

When I was in school, everybody competed against everybody---but we all got along too. With only 4 NPC sororities on campus (not including the BGLOs---deferred), it's pretty much every sorority for herself!

AnchorAlum 12-21-2004 08:51 PM

Hey! I can figure out some of the schools, but not all.

I went to FSU, and our competition way back when was KD, Theta, ADPi, and PiPhi.

All these years later, the competition is KD, TriDelt, and PiPhi. The others are in there too.
FSU is a very traditional campus and Greek groups change little.
There are amazing girls in every single house.
