December birthdays SUCK!

It sucks to have a birthday that's 5 days before Christmas.

Is anyone else part of this lonely club???

DeltAlum 12-13-2004 11:06 AM

My Dad's birthday is 12/24. Wife's is 12/04.

Some good friends had a son on Christmas Day, so they celebrate his "half" birthday on June 25.

Tell me about it! :(

My birthday is in late November, and sometimes coincides with Thanksgiving. (My 21st birthday was on Thanksgiving... no bar crawl for me :( ) My husband's birthday is in early December, and sometimes falls during Hanukkah.

My birthday celebration always got lumped in with Thanksgiving. It was good because the whole family was together, but I never really had my own day. We always had ice cream cake for Thanksgiving dessert. One year when I was 13 or so, I thought it would be nice to have a pie like most families do, so I asked for apple pie. Guess what I got... ice cream cake.

My parents and in-laws always make a point of getting us separate gifts for our birthdays and the holidays, unless we request otherwise. Other people, not so much... on a few occasions, we've gotten ONE gift intended for my birthday, my husband's birthday, and the holidays. :(

TheEpitome1920 12-13-2004 12:12 PM

My mom's birthday is Dec. 1st and my brother turned 28 today! I dont think it sucks because they always get warm clothes.

My birthday is 4 days before Halloween...

My birthday is on July 4th so my cake ALWAYS had a flag on it. But this year my mom got Disney princesses on it and next year for my 21st I told her not to bother with the cake since I doubt I'll be home in time to cut it. ;)

JupiterTC 12-13-2004 12:17 PM

My mom has tried so hard to keep my birthday seperate from Christmas. I've had numerous people pull the "here's your birthday AND Christmas present", even though my brothers would have seperate presents (their birthdays are in March and July). And on some years, my birthday is the first day of Hanukkah.

I don't even bother planning for my birthday anymore.

tunatartare 12-13-2004 12:18 PM

My friend's 21st birthay is today. It's also finals week now. :(

btb87 12-13-2004 12:27 PM

My daughter's birthday is Friday - she was due on Christmas Day. We always give her a present for her birthday as well as Christmas, so she won't feel shortchanged. This year it's a Color Video Now (pink!) and maybe take her and several friends to Andretti Thrill Park, and Christmas, it'll be a Gameboy plus other stuff.

honeychile 12-13-2004 12:43 PM

My granddaddy's birthday was December 26th. The first time his birthday was even celebrated was when he turned 75.

I know a DZ from Bowling Green whose birthday is December 31. With her last name (Barie), she really should have been named Holly!! (Holly Barie?!)

kddani 12-13-2004 01:18 PM

my dad's is 12/31. it's a pain in the behind trying to figure out two things to get him so close together!

emleepc 12-13-2004 01:31 PM

My mom's is Nov. 30----hard to figure out what to do for birthday and Christmas......

Greekgrrl 12-13-2004 02:38 PM

Amateurs!

My bday is Dec. 28
My siblings bdays are: Dec 19, Dec. 27, Dec. 27, and Jan 6.

My parents are insane :D

ETA: I always kind of liked having Christmas week birthdays. It's fun and happy the whole week.... although I usually am pretty burnt out by New Years.

Man, did your parents only have sex during March or something? lol

Pink_Bug 12-13-2004 03:03 PM

Daughter - Dec 11 - guess I should have planned better!
Niece - Dec 25 - now that is really bad!

valkyrie 12-13-2004 03:08 PM

My birthday is 12/21 and I've never had a problem. When I was growing up, I always had a birthday party for friends and another one for family that had nothing to do with Christmas -- my parents never combined parties.

Anchorgirl 12-13-2004 03:58 PM

Same with me. My birthday is Friday - 12/17 - and I have never been shortchanged by family members. They always make a point of celebrating it separate from Christmas. But I do sometimes get hurt when I make an extra effort to celebrate a friends birthday and then since mine falls during the holidays no one has time to celebrate mine because of busy schedules. But most of the time I have a great time, no complaints!

Honeykiss1974 12-13-2004 04:03 PM

My birthday is Dec. 25 and I like it. While everyone else gets a boring sweater, I usually get something really nice like jewelry or double the gifts. :)

:D MY birthday is Friday and I was ALSO due on Christmas Day!! I like it. My parents always made a special effort to make my birthday a big deal. Check out the schedule this year, though:

Thursday (12/16): Drive to Georgia

Friday (12/17): Going out with my sorors and friends!!
Saturday (12/18): Family Birthday Party (traditional event that has occurred every year since I was BORN)
Sunday (12/19): Granny's Christmas Party (another traditional event that generally occurs on the Sunday before Christmas or the Sunday after Christmas)

Saturday (12/25): Christmas

January (1/2): Drive back to New York

This is INSANE! I feel for people who have children and have to go see all the relatives on Christmas!

navane 12-13-2004 06:12 PM

My friend's mom's birthday is on December 31, New Year's Eve. It's hard for the December 31 folks because people are always too busy on New Year's Eve to go to a birthday party. I've know this lady for a long time. I always give her a Christmas and birthday present separately.

.....Kelly :)

kstar 12-13-2004 08:36 PM

My birthday is the 23rd of December. Which always sucked, with the no party because everyone is out of town or the joint Christmas/Channukah presents. Last year on my 21st it really sucked, there were like 3 people in the bar, and I brought them with me.

I have to use it, I forget where I heard it, but I think it was on here. The next time someone says that a present is for Birthday and Christmas, I'm not going to give them a Christmas gift and wait until their birthday, and be like, "Here, it's for your birthday AND Christmas!"

Edited: typos

Dionysus 12-13-2004 08:39 PM

I don't think December birthdays are as bad as summer birthdays.

Queencece 12-13-2004 09:30 PM

December birthdays....

My birthday is tomorrow...I will be 23, but it sucks because when I was in college my bday fell during finals week. I mean who wanted to party then?!

If I would have CARED I would have celebrated before finals started which did happen a couple times, but still. I can't complain though. It sucks having the bday and Christmas present all in one. I think the only time you should do that is when the present is expensive. I mean how messed up is that.

Bdays:

Best friend: Dec 7
Friend: Dec 7
Cousin: Dec 8
Friend: Dec 9
Aunt: Dec 11
Granpa: Dec 11
Me: Dec 14
Aunt: Dec 19
Step-sister's mom: Dec 19
Granpa: Dec 25
Mom: Dec 31/Jan 1

January Birthdays suck too. My bitch ass older sister has July 16, and ALWAYS had the cool pool parties.

I got stupid roller skating parties every year.

Hey Q! What does this mean? Was it like right at midnight that she was born?

AGDee 12-13-2004 11:06 PM

My daughter's birthday is January 14th and it is too close to Christmas. She gets everything she wants for Christmas and then you have to figure out what to get for her birthday. I've tried shopping for both when I do my Christmas shopping, but I end up giving her the birthday presents for Christmas and have to buy more then. The store shelves are EMPTY after Christmas so it's harder to find things she wants. She gets a lot of gift certificates for her birthday, which is ok with her. It just stinks because she's going to find things she wants 5 months from now and has to wait until Dec/Jan. Plus, I really need to plan out her birthday party right now but we're so busy with Christmas that it ends up being a mad dash at the last minute to plan her birthday party. And yeah, no cool pool parties or travelling (she'd like to have a b-day party at GameWorks, but it's an hour and a half drive and there's no telling whether it's possible in Janaury or not). So, as I stress over Christmas, I have to also stress over her birthday and it just plain stinks.

My son's birthday is on St. Patrick's Day, which is a little easier to deal with. (now anyway, but not the day he turns 21 when I'll be worried to death about him!)

My parents often bought things during the year to give me for Christmas, ESPECIALLY if I made a huge deal about something. Then (they recently told me the strategy) they would talk the item up until Christmas to keep me wanting it. LOL! That way, they could get things I wanted and still give them to me.

I was very far from spoiled, and I was brought up to really appreciate any gift ever given to me. So, I was genuinely happy to receive things even if they were six months old in the world of kid. :)

ms_gwyn 12-14-2004 01:43 AM

I always felt like the oddball of my family! I mean am a May baby :D

My Sister 12/12 (yesterday)
My Dad 12/13 (today!)
My Mom 12/23
My good friend (she is like a cousin) 12/11

But I have never "shortchanged" my family because of their birthdays.

KSUViolet06 12-14-2004 02:19 AM

Mine is 12/8 and I don't mind. Depending on the person, I get double gifts, but most of the time I just get money for my birthday and a cool Christmas present.

Glitter650 12-14-2004 02:39 AM

My B day is Dec. 24. I've never had a problem with getting less presents, or celebrating with my family. My problem is scheduling time to go out with my friends. Especially in college everyone was leaving and had finals up until they left, when I was younger I always just had my friends party a week or two before my b-day. Christmas and my b-day is usually a scheduling nightmare for me anyway since I have divorced parents. I visit 5 homes on christmas.

ADqtPiMel 12-14-2004 02:42 AM

My boyfriend's birthday is 12/24...it sucks because I feel like I have to spend twice as much, since it's two holidays, and that's a pretty big chunk of money to lose all at once.

PureGoldF2K1 12-14-2004 03:50 AM

I have always loved my December 11 birthday! It makes Dec. the best month ever, like one long holiday, even more so than it already is! And I've never been shafted for gifts;)

Its strange, I always see SOO many Dec 11 bdays, even just on this thread! I have 2 close friends born on the exact day/year as me!

LOL! My roommate is 12/11/80

JupiterTC 12-14-2004 09:13 AM

My grandmother's birthday is Dec. 26th, and she has a twin sister.

XOMichelle 12-14-2004 12:20 PM

I've always loved my birthday- Nov 11th. In elementary school we got it off in honor of Veterans, and I have perfected using birthday gift certificates and money to buy people Christmas gifts. It's awesome. One of my really close friends has a birthday on Dec 20th. Last year she left for Italy before Christmas, but this year I've gotten her two gifts.

MiamiADPi 12-14-2004 03:56 PM

Yeah, December birthdays do suck! Mine's 12/21...

People forget about it all the time because of the holiday rush. I've always been off from school which is nice, but in college with finals and everyone heading home, most people forget and it just slips by. Then there's the people who try to give one gift for both occasions (maybe that's a little selfish, but it still bothers me a little. lol) I don't work with college and all, and the bank account definitely starts getting a little low before the holidays.

Usually being on the Winter Solstice, I sometimes complain that my birthday is the "darkest day of the year", haha. How much does that suck!? Not a lot of sunlight, cold (back to NY in 3 days...), and quickly approaching.

I always wanted to have a cool pool party when I was little, instead I had to settle for "winter/christmas" themed parties where we made little Christmas crafts.

Well, Happy Birthday to all my fellow December babies!!

My one uncle was born on 12/24, my aunt on 12/25 and another uncle on 12/26 (all on my dad's side). I was born on 12/7, but I was 3 weeks early. We're Irish...St. Patrick's Day is 3/17...you do the math!

Jill1228 12-24-2004 02:25 PM

December Birthdays are sick and wrong!

I feel your pain! Mine is 12/28 (hence the screen name). By that time folx are to broke from Christmas to even think about your ass!

I got the "put one present aside for your birthday" BS
Yes the gifts were under the tree...in CHRISTMAS PAPER.

Mr. 1228 wanted to set our wedding date on 12/27 so he could do the one gift thang (Christmas, anniversary and birthday). I was NOT having that! We got married on 12/11/01
(The first 2 weeks of December were the cheapest time for family to travel)

Now the weird part:
My maternal grandfather passed away on Wednesday 12/28/49 at 10:15p
I was born many years later on 12/28 at 10:15p

I told Mr. 1228 that we are SO not having a December baby!

Jill1228 12-24-2004 02:29 PM

My mom was due with me on Christmas. But she said "no way in hell am I going to the hospital on Christmas!" (there were 2 other kids at home)

Of course i got stuck with being born on the anniversary of my maternal grandfather's death
