Dream Expansions!
.
|
I would love to have another chapter in Florida somewhere...and maybe some more in Illinois...
|
Seeing as I'm from the mid-west...I think UW-Milwaukee, our Gamma Chapter, we have both Delta Nu and Delta Delta close, on that note Madison would be great too. UW-Green Bay would be nice also
For Ivy's. I'd start with Penn. We already have two chapters here in Philly, and there are a ton of alumnae, though unorganized, enough that could support a chapter. And we are very strong in the PA area. I vote Temple also. Hawaii would be soooooo nice. UH Manoa (sp?) would be pretty cool. Somehow before that could ever happen, I think we'd need to be stronger on the west coast, too many cultural similarities not to have that connection. The south would be pretty neat also. Is it even realistic though? Ok, sorry my list wasn't as pretty, but yea... |
What about the challenge that has been posed in other threads regarding tradition and legacies? We just don't have the legacy numbers in the south. I guess if we spend the next 20+ it could be plausible. I don't know, I'm just thinking here.
|
We have a chapter near Tampa, FL. I know that AST was looking at Embry Riddle in Daytona, but I guess it didn't go through. We would love to have another southern chapter in the area!!!
|
We haven't heard anything at all about it, so we thought that it's not going through. I could be wrong tho...
|
It's not on the list on the national website, either.

But, are you thinking about the AST colony at Embry-Riddle in Prescott, AZ? which by the way, from what I hear is doing fine. I think Tri-sigma is colonizing at Embry-Riddle in Daytona. |
AST was looking at Embry Riddle in Daytona, also. This past spring, some of the girls from my chapter went there to meet with some national staff...

For ANY NPC to colonize at UHM, you're going to need a large and VERY SUPPORTIVE alumnae base. According to the Panhellenic of Hawai`i website, I don't think AST has an organized group in the state. I'm sure there are AST alums living here, and if so, we at PoH would love to hear from them! |
Hawaii or bust!
Don't worry everyone! I guess I can take the responsibility and move to Hawaii to start our "Ohana in AST" Alumnae group! ;) :D
Anyone else want to come with me!?!:p btw... I remember when my chapter was sending out an alumna newsletter we noticed a few alumnae that lived on Oahu and Kaui, and wondered if they would be willing to host a sisterhood retreat! |
Elizabeth, I'll go to Hawaii with you!!
As far as colonizing in the south, I think if we stuck with smaller schools, we would do better. I would love for us to come back to some schools in AL. Our headquarters is in Birmingham, so I think any school would do great. There are tons of smaller schools in the south, that I think AST would fit in perfectly, but I guess we will see. |
If we bring AST to small southern schools, alumnae recognition is not really a problem. My colony is in Memphis, and very few girls on campus are legacies of our NPC sororities (AST, AZD, ZTA).

True dedication, right?! Anyway, back on topic... I would live to see expansion to: 1) Dallas/Fort Worth area (mainly b/c I am having withdrawals!) 2) Northwest region of the US 3) at least 1-2 other colleges in states where AST has only one active chapter I would also really like to see some of our single letter or "bigger" school chapters reopened (such as Miami University in Oxford, OH; Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY; University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI) |
On the Hawaii thing,
I'm very proud to brag that Delta Nu, in just over five years has initiated a handful of very loud Hawiians. I know at least one will move back after college, but sadly most will stay on the mainland. Nevertheless, we need that alumnae group organized. I wanna move too and help out! I love the idea of doing small schools in the south. When was the last chapter we had to close? Am I allowed to ask that? |
I know, but it doesn't say when they were closed. If no one knows, its not that big of a deal, I'm just curious.
|
I remember in 1998 or 1999 we got a National Memo about a chapter closing b/c the school administration had revoked the entire greek system. I can't remember the school though...

Was it Waynesburg? |

Thanks 33girl! |
Thanks, I was just curious because we have booming colony numbers so i was just wondering what our closing rate is. I'd love to see us really work at our defunct chapters, well, those and Hawai'i

I think it would be cool to move out West. We've got a chapter in Cali, a new one in Arizona, so it's a start! PsychTau |
Ooo where's the one in Arizona?
Poor Gamma Upsilon's all alone :c They do need some sisters out there soon! |

I would love that too...maybe even the University of Houston. There is only one chapter here in Texas. I know we used to have one somewhere going out towards Dallas and then one here in San Antonio at UTSA but they closed down so its only us at StMU. We have a colony at PanAm, but I would love like someone else said to have more chapters in states that only have 1 chapter. :) |
Pardon the crash. :)
AST is the only NPC sorority that has never had a chapter at Indiana University (my alma mater). Too bad it is near-impossible to get a new chapter chartered at IU, it would be nice to make the set complete (and IU really needs a new chapter or three!) |
here goes!
1. Kean Univeristy in NJ I realize there are other actives in NJ, and near Kean, but I just started going back to school there full time this semster. I have a year left, and it makes me sad to see the only national NPCS on campus are D-Phi-E and QFA(Nothing against D-Phi-E or TFA! It's just that there are no other NPCs!!!!!!!!!!!!) Besides, I feel like a dope if I wear letters to campus because there are no other ASTs...... 2. Hawaii would be great 3. CANADA!!!!!!!!!!! We should be international too! (See D-Phi-E, above) 4. More schools where they allow houses and the Greek System is not shunned by the school (can you tell how Seton Hall was/is to the Greeks????) That's my 2 cents! |
Majorly selfish one but since I'm tranfering to a new school, I'd like to see AST expand to UMASS Amherst! Actually to all the UMASS schools, we've got two of the already I think.
|
maybe i'm biased because i'm a penn stater... but i would LOVE to see us colonize at Penn State University Park. out of all of the NPC sororities, we are one of, i think 3, that aren't there.
|
Well since I transferred and it sucks not being involved with greeks here, I would love for there to be a chapter at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville TN.
~Beth~ |
University of Memphis, so they can chill with the Delta Chi girls! :)
|
I would like to see some more chapters in Oklahoma, Texas and that area our chapter in Durant has one chapter that is even remotely close and it is 2-3 hrs away, I would like to see some in Northern Tx and Southern Ok, like ECU or SMU this part of the world is lacking in greek partisanship.
|
I would love to see some chapters in the Northwest-- Washington, Oregon, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho...
I think that Gonzaga University, in Spokane, Washington, would be a great campus for us to go to! I'd also love to see us keep growing in the south and southwest... and, of course, I'm all over the Hawaii thing! :0) But, we can't leave out Alaska... |
Well I will not volunteer to move to Alaska!
|
It always looks so pretty, though...
I'll do it! :0) |

Sorry to crash, and in a 3-year-old thread too, but as an AST-legacy who had to pledge another sorority because AST wasn't on any campuses I was interested in, I too would love to see AST expand more into the South (especially the bigger state schools - y'all did say *Dream* Expansions, after all). I would have absolutely, no questions asked pledged if AST had been at Ole Miss, Arkansas, or any of the big SEC schools. I wanted to stay in the South for college, but I even looked at James Madison, largely because of the AST chapter there.
My mom went to Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, (what is that chapter, Alpha Gamma? I can't recall.), and she is really active nationally. I actually went to y'all's convention with her in Orlando...3 years ago? I honestly think that not being able to pledge her sorority will be one of my greatest regrets about college. We're really close and I hate that we don't have that sorority connection like so many of my friends have with their mothers and grandmothers (my chapter is full of legacies). But yeah, my Dream Expansion for AST would be more Southern schools and eventually into big SEC schools. |
