Old School Part II (White Music)

O.K.,,, Don't laugh, but I went to a predominately white school where all they listened to was artists like Debbie Gibson, George Micheal, ect... I know we have had MANY Discissions on Old School, but I want to know how many people out there listened to Old School (White Music?)

I guess I will start this out by stating that I love:

Eurythmics (Sp?) Sweet Dreams, Here comes the rain again

George Micheal: Father Figure, Faith,

WHAM: Careless Whisper

Phil Collins: Against All Odds, One more Night, In the Air Tonight, Groovy Kind of Love, Easy Lover

The Carrs: Drive

Boy George: Carmacameleon (sp?)

Debbie Gigson: Out of the Blue, Lost in YOur Eyes, Only in your Dreams,

Maddona: True Blue, Like a Virgin, Material Girl, Into the Groove

Nikky French: Total Eclipse From the Heart

Blondie: Heart of Glass

Hewy Lewis and the News: Heart and Soul, If this is it, actually all of their songs

The Police: Every Breath You Take

Duran Duran: Lets Dance

Cindy Lauper: Girls Just wanna have Fun, Time after Time, True Colors, Into the Night,

and the List goes ON, and ON, and ON!!!! My fiance' thinks that I am stuck in the 80's but hey what can I say..... I love this kind of Music, even though I get STRANGE looks when I blast in on stereo. The funny thing is,, is that after people make fun of me, they start singing and dancing to the music as well!!!

This is too funny. I love all the artists mentioned. I know I'm not the only that loves to catch an ol' school "white" song on the radio and/or video.
Ummm, EVERY black person LOVED Hall 'n Oats. Don't act like ya'll don't remember them: "I can't go for that, no, nooooo...no can do," and countless other songs that SOME black folks THINK were sung by black folks.

c&c1913 06-16-2001 03:36 PM

Before my parents got cable (BET & MTV), I used to watch the video show on TBS called "Night Tracks".

My favs-

Tears for Fears- Everybody wants to rule the world

Cyndi Lauper- True Colors

Samantha Fox (although she sung with Full Force, she was white)- Naughty Girls, Touch Me, I wanna have some fun

Blondie- Heart of Glass

Nu Shooz- I can't wait

Teena Marie- Lovergirl, Ooh la la la

Hall & Oates- I can't go for that, Sara smile

Bananarama- Venus

12dn94dst 06-16-2001 03:39 PM

OOOHHHHH you did NOT go there with Night Tracks on TBS! LMAO!! I used to watch it too & I used to try & stay up past SNL to watch Friday Night Videos.

RedAngel 06-16-2001 08:02 PM

I remember listening to:
Pink Floyd-"The Wall"
Pet Shop Boys-West End Girls
Hall & Oats-Everything from Sara Smile to Maneater
Stevie Nicks- Your So Vain
The Bangles-Walk Like An Egpytian
The Human League
The Breakfast Club
Huey and the News
Teena Marie-Square Biz

Red Angel
Nothing But Crimson and Cream

tickledpink 06-16-2001 08:38 PM

You guys have named mainly all of the good oldies. I used to love "Let's Dance" and Sweet Dreams". Annie Lenox could blow!!!
I liked Robert Palmer when he came out with his video "Addicted to Love" (remember the women with the suits and guitars??).

c&c 1913, I used to rock my Samantha Fox "Naughty Girls" with Bow-Legged Lou!!!

I also loved:
"Total Eclipse of the Heart"
"Walk Like an Egyptian"

korkscru 06-16-2001 09:21 PM

I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who likes some white groups and their music http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif It's great to see that it's okay to be diversified in our tastes in music. I attended a predominately white high school, a HBCU (SC State University)for undergrad, and a mixed university (Webster University) for grad school so I got a taste of both worlds so to speak. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I was into KC and the Sunshine Band (when they were out), Darryl Hall & John Oates, Karen Carpenter (now she's old-old school), David Bowie, Adam Ant, the Eurethimics (exuse the spelling), the band that sings "Black Velvet", Pat Benetar, Stevie Nicks (she's an ALL-TIME favorite. I still enjoy her songs), Journey, Madonna, and the list can go on and on.

JinglesSpr99 06-17-2001 12:12 AM

One of my favorite movies from the 80s is 16 candles. I still have to watch it whenever it is on!

AKA2D '91 06-17-2001 02:11 AM

Remember 99 RED or Luft Balloons by Nena?

ace_que98 06-17-2001 04:04 PM

Awww man IotaNet, you got me hype now.
Speaking about more music:
Motley Crue: Home Sweet Home, Wild Side, Kick Start My Heart, Without You

Everyone:

How about Jefferson Starship: We Built This City On Rock and Roll something like that

This is gonna throw yall, what about disco music? I wasn't even alive at the time, but the Bee Gee's were jammin. If any of you all have ever watched Saturday Night Fever or Staying Alive, yall will know what I'm talking about.

DirectorDST99 06-17-2001 11:58 PM

JinglesSpr99, 16 Candles was on this morning, I watched it before I went to church...LOL!

Hey East Coast - I recognize a few. I grew up in DC but I was in the Columbus, Ohio in the early 80's. I remember the "Shy-Shy" song and "Don't turn around - uh oh!"

I am going to blast my white music tonight while I finish my laundry and I don't care if my neighbors don't like it -- they think I'm strange anyway.
