Cartoons

it's saturday and i am home for the holiday (oh give thanks to God for sending His Son to die for a sin-sick world http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ). when i am at home, i turn into a little kid with my cereal and cartoons. i was just wondering if anyone still watched cartoons. which ones? here are some of my favorites:

- recess (when i was a kid, i was a combo of t.j, gretchen, and of course spinelli! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif )
- rugrats (i was a little like angelica too! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif )
- hey arnold!

------------------
I hope life isn't a big joke, because I don't get it.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean ? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind

MeezDiscreet--

I too am a Rugrats fan. I just got the Paris movie the other week and it's amazing. Those babies are so cute, even if little Angelica is evil. I think all of us were Angelicas back in the day. My most favorite Rugrats episode was when Chuckie found out what happened to his Mommy. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

Being the mother of two young children
(ages 7 years and 22 months), I just HAPPEN to come across a FEW 'toons' that catch my attention. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif They are:

Recess (I love this http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif )
Flintstones ( an oldie, but goodie)
Little Bill
Power Puff Girls (my daughter loves this one)
Johnny Bravo (he makes me laugh)
Little Bear
Thunder Cats (gosh I love Panthro)

But get this! There are ALSO a few children's programs that I tend to enjoy. They are:

Dora the Explorer
Bear in the Big Blue House
Blue's Clues

Hey, I guess this just goes to show that many of us, no matter what our ages, are STILL kids at heart (I know that I am). http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Hi MeezDiscreet, I guess you can say that I have been missing in action. It has just dawned on me that there is less than a month left in the semester and I have a ton of things to do.

Now my favorite cartoons:
The Flinstons
Tiny Tunes
Tom and Jerry

I really enjoy the old ones like:
The Care Bears and Rainbow Bright

My absolute favorite are cartoon movies like:
The Lion King
Fivol(sp)Goes West
Lady and the Tramp
Bambi
Man you are taking me back, I can't believe I'm 21 years old. It seems like I was 12 years old just last year. It's funny how time flies by.
Oh yeah I almost forgot, I think the name of the cartoon is Doug and I absolutely love the cartoon Author.

goldhottie06@aol.com 04-14-2001 07:33 PM

I LOVE THE CARTOON NETWORK!!! THE POWERPUFF GIRLS ARE MY FAV(I'M THE HATEFUL GREEN ONE...LOL). BUT, DOES ANYBODY REMEMBER THE BANANA SPLITS???? I WISH THEY WERE ON THE "NETWORK" CUZ..I LOVED THEM SO!!!!

D.COM 04-14-2001 07:40 PM

LOL!!!!! Yeah I remember those and BEVERLY HILLS TEENS (I liked Troy). Growing up in the 80's in NYC was an experience! I remember in Kindergarten and first grade, everyone had a slleping bag for nap time and , LOL!, I had a CABBAGE PATCH KIDS sleeping bag (anyone remember them and the movie??)!!! My friends had STAR WARS, E.T., and She-Ra.

I don't watch cartoons anymore (except if they are OLD SCHOOL), but I did enjot Tiny Toons and power Rangers, because of my little sister, haha.

Okay here are my favorites (no specific order):

1) He-Man and She-Ra(yeah, I remember the episode of when they found out they were brother/sister! Remember Orko and the other little creature that you had to find on the screen in She-Ra?).
2) Gummy Bears
3) Thundercats (Thunder, thunder, thundercats, oooooooo!)
4) Snorkles
5) The-Get-a-Long-Gang
6) Beverly Hills Teens
7) Smurfs
8) Dungeon and Dragons

10) Flintstones
11) The Jetsons

I am usually quiet on the board, but I had to jump in on this topic. I guess you can consider me old school because I remember every single of those cartoons! But,..to add on to your list I had to watch :
Heathcliff
Archie
Mighty Mouse

VERY OLD SCHOOL:

H.R. Pufnstuf
Top Cat

Yogi and Friends : Snaglepuss and Huckleberry Hound

Can someone solve this mystery for me? To all of the Tom and Jerry fans did they ever show the maids face?! My brother and
I are still in debate ( LOL about 10 years) over that! I say that they only showed her feet! He said the one day that I didn't watch,....they showed her face. Help?

Does anyone remember when Kid N' Play had a cartoon and also M.C. Hammer? LOL

Miss_Nik

D.COM 04-14-2001 10:59 PM

LOL Heathcliff, Mighty, Mouse, and Archie!
FOr all of you Archie fans out there...I have 274 Archie books at home, all DIFFERENT, and without counting my little sister's collection, lol.

Well, from what I remember, I ALWAYS watched Tom & Jerry and never saw the maid's face. I guess the purpose was because since Tom & Jerry are animals and always on the ground, we see their surroundings at their level. I never saw the maid's face.

MeezDiscreet 04-14-2001 11:48 PM

ya'll are taking me back!! i forgot all about heathcliff, mighty mouse, top cat, smurfs, and alvin and the chipmunks. all were classics. miss_nik, i remember the kid n' play cartoon and the hammer one but i think i only saw one episode of each of them.

does anyone remember the name of the cartoon that had the animals that were combinations of other animals? bumblebee lion is the only character i can remember right now. there was another cartoon that i can't remember the name too but it stared a rock band that would go "to the other side" and they rode around space in a convertible. at the end of the show, they would show a rock video too. anyone remember?

and i know ya'll remember that storybook cartoon where they took books and made them into cartoon shorts. i remember the one where the dude had chocolate spots, one where this black boy had a clumsy robot, and a chinese version of cinderella.

Salience 04-15-2001 12:23 AM

It's all about the Powerpuff Girls for me! They and Dexter's Labaratory (sp?) are so funny because they take anime to a hilarious American level.

I also like MIB, Batman Beyond, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Recess, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

I OD'ed on the Flintstones, and I can't stand them anymore, but I like most H-B cartoon characters, especially Scooby and a Pup Named Scooby Doo.

*Kid N'Play and M.C. Hammer had cartoons in the early 90's.

tamarathorn3 04-15-2001 10:54 AM

The Banana Splits did come on cartoon network for like a month. It was some time recently (within the past couple of months). It came on late Friday or Saturday night (like 4am or so). It came on with some other Hanna Barbera cartoons like "Funky Phantom" and the "Hair Bears."
Did anybody watch "Jem" or "Rainbow Bright." I can hear the theme music in my head right now. I thought I was the only one that had ever seen Karate Kat-"he's a lean mean Karate machine."
I LOVE the classics-Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Yogi Bear, Scooby Doo. I love Doug-the nickalodeon (sp?) version- I a kind of upset that the Cartoon Network has moved some of my other favorites ones-Yogi Bear, Yakky Duck, Huckleberry Hound, et cetera-to the Boomerang network. It took forever for the cartoon network to get to Gastonia, NC. I will probably be 30 when the cable networks here offer that channel.
One more question: Does anybody remember when Yogi Bear, Paw Paw Bears, Snorkles, and one more show I can't remember used to come on Sunday mornings? It all came on with one collective title. I know the theme used to go like "Fun-Fun- Funtastic whoa!" I know somebody besides me remembers this!
The Pound Puppies was another one of my favorites back in day.

Yes, I remember them things...I couldn't stand them! All the boys on my street had those! They used to gross me out and just thinking about'em still grosses me out! **little girl voice*** EEEWWWWWWW! LOL http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif

I remember Fraggle Rock. Redd was my favorite! I think I still have it on video somewhere.
I also agree that the 1st Neverending story was better than part 2.

Ok, I just remembered something...ya'll remember Schoolhouse Rock!?
**Conjunction junction, what's it's function** (or something like that...I'd always forget how it went http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif)
I think someone told me there's a website for this. I think it's like schoolhouserock.com or something like that.

**I just found out that it is indeed schoolhouserock.com for anyone that wants to check it out**

I are still in debate ( LOL about 10 years) over that! I say that they only showed her feet! He said the one day that I didn't watch,....they showed her face. Help?

Miss Nik, for the record, the Tom & Jerry maid (whose name was Mammy Two-Shoes) NEVER had her face shown on TV. However, on one cartoon, Part Time Pal (1940), they showed a silhouette of Mammy Two Shoes chasing Tom in the moonlight and swinging a broom. The silhouette clearly showed the stereotypical black mammy (do-rag, overweight, etc.). Oh, did you know that in the Tom & Jerry cartoons now, the old, Mammy Two-Shoes voice is now replaced by a more (for lack of a better word) 90s-ish black woman? If you watch Tom & Jerry on the Cartoon Network, try and catch a cartoon called Dog Trouble, and you will hear what I mean.

To all you cartoon lovers out there, all your favorite cartoons are chronicled at TVParty.com. Click on the Saturday Morning Cartoons icon, and you will see clips of cartoons from 1971-1988.

I've noticed that Rain Man. They don't even show some Tom & Jerry episodes that I grew up with and they've edited the ones they show. You how something will blow up in either Tom or Jerry's face and they'll have a black face with big lips. The one they don't show, but I rememeber is when they are in Africa and in one scene where Tom is in this huge black pot, Jerry is made up in black face, big lips, and uses poor english.

I guess those some scenes are not considered "politically correct" today.

C&C, the Tom & Jerry cartoon you are referring to was called "His Mouse Friday". It featured Tom in the middle of an ocean laying on a wooden board (shipwreck victim?). A wave flips him off the board on a desert island. I don't remember where Jerry came into play but Jerry took some black off the pot and put it on his face, disguising himself as a cannibal native, and told Tom "Up in pot, UP IN POT!" and has Tom cutting potatoes and carrots. Well, Jerry gets caught up in the moment and does this little native dance, and his grass skirt falls off, giving him away. Well, Tom escapes, only to get caught by real natives, being poked with a spear. One the of the natives said "Ummmmmm! *licking lips* Bahhhhbequed cat." Tom runs off and the natives chase him. Jerry laughs and walks away only to get poked by a spear and one native said "Ummmmmm. *licking lips* Bahhhhhbequed mouse." Well, Jerry runs off with the native chasing after him and the cartoon ends.

I know what 'chu talkin' 'bout. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Yes, I watched T&J religiously as a kid, the "traditional" Fred Quimby ones (1940-57), the CinemaScope ones (1957-60), those wack Gene Dietch one with the weird sound effects (1960-64?), those "aiiight" Chuck Jones toons (1965-69?), and even those wack Filmation toons (1970s). I did my homework.

It makes me wonder how a cartoon can move to be "politically correct" yet some television shows or other facets of entertainment haven't yet reached that point!

Singing "Memories, in the corner of my mind" LOL http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I would hate to ask you all what happened or what you were doing on May 8, 1977 at 11:10 AM! Everyone's mememories is so vivid when it comes to cartoons!

I bet you that if I gave you a list of things to do verbally that every single one of you would get it right!

Memories! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif
