Do you use ratemyprofessor.com?

A lot of people at SDSU do.

Tippiechick 11-21-2004 04:52 PM

While at MTSU, we used mtsureview.net. (Or it could be .com, I can't remember right now.) It was priceless.

PhoenixAzul 11-21-2004 05:55 PM

Yep. Lots of Otterbein profs on there. Our student newspaper did a huge story about it last year. Professors go on there a lot.

tunatartare 11-21-2004 06:21 PM

It's really popular at my school. A lot of students use it to make their schedules so that they know who the good teachers are.

kddani 11-21-2004 08:45 PM

I think it's a great site.

At Pitt, we have teacher evaluations every semester. However, the students never get to see the results of these surveys, which I think is ridiculously unfair!

I visited the site the other day at work when I was bored, and was pleasantly surprised by how much it's grown since I last visited about a year ago. Read through some of the comments on professors I have had, and they are dead on.

The same exact thing happens at my school. I think those surveys are kinda pointless because teachers don't get the results until like halfway through the next semester so it's a bit late if they want to change something.

I'm trying to remember what the explanation at Pitt was when the student gov't tried to make the results available, believe the unions had issue with it and that's why they're not released. Think that's BS and that students should have an opportunity to see what quality of teacher they are taking before they register for a class.

RioLambdaAlum 11-21-2004 11:00 PM

i use to play on there in class when i had graphics and desktop publishing lol. i should go play now and see what the people down in rio now are saying.

cutiepatootie 11-21-2004 11:54 PM

I have all my professors rated on there......mind you profs from 10 yrs ago. I rated accordingly to how much stress they contributed to my life :D

kappaloo 11-22-2004 12:24 AM

the reason teacher evaluations aren't released is because there are major libel issues.... or so sayeth my school

ratemyprof is huge at UW. many profs will point their students to it - good or bad. :S

Taualumna 11-22-2004 12:33 AM

I've used it.

Lady Pi Phi 11-22-2004 07:46 AM

I used it yesterday to rate one of my law professors. I'm convinced she's the devil incarnate. She calls herself strict...I call her pure evil.

GeekyPenguin 11-22-2004 02:28 PM

We use dogears.net.

NinjaPoodle 11-22-2004 03:37 PM

http://www.teacherreview.com/

KSigkid 11-22-2004 03:43 PM

I checked it out a bit when I was in school, but never seriously used it. Most of the time I got all the info I needed from people in my majors and those I had class with previously.

bordeaux hearts 11-23-2004 12:12 AM

I use it a lil but my school's internet blocks it somehow so we cant get to it here

alfuzzxi 11-24-2004 05:08 PM

I actually found out about that site from my advisor. It was funny we even looked up and saw how she was rated. It was really useful for me because I'm terrible in economics and I just wanted an easy prof. so I could graduate.

Rollergirl2001 12-10-2005 01:28 PM

I used it just a few minutes ago. I gave two of my teachers a green face. Some people say that the bad marks come from freshmen who don't study and/or attend classes. But I'm not a freshman (as you all know), and I tell the truth when it comes to professors.

I use this to see who's a good professor or not when it comes to selecting classes.

One word of advice, if you are in your final two semesters, and if you find out that the professor have a bad mark and if he's teaching the class (and if there's only one class in that course), ignore the ratings and be prepared to study or do whatever that is expected of him.

TristanDSP 12-10-2005 02:45 PM

Damn, we're no longer the school with the most entries, but I know we'll eventually catch up with GVSU.

Rate my Professor has increased in popularity, but I use Pick-A-Prof. You have to pay $5 a semester to use it, but I really like it. You can give a thorough explanation of the teacher (instead of the 300 character limit that ratemyprofessor has).

I check rate my professor there too, but I like to read the comments and not a lot of people at RMP leave comments.

we have our own at sac state www.sacrate.com

Same both @ Brooklyn College where I started and @ JWU where I am now.

I use ratemyprofessor.com. I have yet to have it totally make or break me, as I use word of mouth from people that I know that took the prof first, but I have had it help me decide when I wasn't sure, or at least prepare me for what I was in store for.

epchick 12-11-2005 04:32 PM

I'm now the RatemyProfessor administrator for my school!! Woohoo...go me.

I have to make sure that all the professor's have First and Last names, and make sure there are no duplicates....plus making sure the ratings and comments don't have any profanity or nothing in em!

KSUViolet06 12-12-2005 04:16 AM

Yes I do. I try to give honest feedback there. not just "Waaah he was an asshole and gave me a C." I try to say things like "Read the book because all the test material is not from the lecture".

KSigkid 12-12-2005 07:59 AM

We had it at Boston U., but there also used to be another guide put out by students through the school. I forgot the name, but they used to pass out surveys at the end of each semester, and then publish their findings in a guide and on the web. I always found that more helpful, because it was from a larger population.

KatieKate1244 12-12-2005 08:09 AM

I go to a small school, so basically after the first semester here, I know who and who not to take. However, I do use it to look up a prof. whom I haven't heard anything about. However, I would imagine it's a lot more useful at larger schools.
