What was the first video you remember seeing

I believe mine would be Rio by Duran Duran.

33girl 11-19-2004 12:29 PM

Tonight's the Night by Rod Stewart - on America's Top 10 or Solid Gold or one of those shows. The first one I remember seeing on an actual *video* program was Every Day I Write the Book by Elvis Costello.

THRILLER was the first I remember.

smiley21 11-19-2004 01:29 PM

i think it was something by Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston. I think it was "The Greatest Love Of All" or "I Wanna Dance With Somebody"....i cannot think back that far

Peaches-n-Cream 11-19-2004 01:35 PM

The Police I think that it was Roxanne, but I am not positive.

sugar and spice 11-19-2004 02:10 PM

Nirvana "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

I'm sure that wasn't the first video I ever saw, but it's the first one I can remember.

KSig RC 11-19-2004 02:20 PM

it was the paula abdul video with the animated cat - i think "opposites attract", f-ing amazing stuff . . . also c & c music factory, "gonna make you sweat" was right around then, word to big bird

KillarneyRose 11-19-2004 03:16 PM

That might have been my first video also. I just remember it was The Police, and I was in love with Sting and his blond spiked hair. They played The Police in heavy rotation on a local music video show in NYC. This was years before anyone in our area had cable.

aabby757 11-19-2004 03:28 PM

I think his last name was Wait. John Wait I think? I miss you or I'm Missing you, something like that.

What made it memorable was the "plot." He was missing his girlfriend and singing the song with head phones on (I guess singing along with his own song.) and since he had headphones on he didn't hear his girlfriend (the one he's missing) knocking on the door. So she left.

That is my first video memory.

moe.ron 11-19-2004 03:48 PM

What was that video where the dude goes back and forth btw the comic world and reality? It's about race car drivers. It's a really cool video, even by today's standard.

Anchorgirl 11-19-2004 04:22 PM

I think mine was Madonna's Material Girl - and I made up a dance routine and make the neighborhood kids do it. :-)

PhiPsiRuss 11-19-2004 04:27 PM

I'm not sure. Maybe Harden My Heart by Quarterflash.

dzandiloo 11-19-2004 06:26 PM

"Video killed the radiostars" from The Buggles, which incidentally, was the very first music video played on MTV....yeah, it was 1981. I was 11, and was hooked to MTV from that point forward!

AGDee 11-19-2004 07:05 PM

Don Henley All She Wants to do is Dance

It was one of the few they played on MTV when it started...

I don't think that was my first video but that is one of my all time favorite videos...and one of my top 80's songs too. I am an 80's music/movie dork :p

tinydancer 11-20-2004 07:42 PM

I think it was Michael Jackson "Billie Jean." My good friend had cable and we would watch MTV for HOURS on end. I got cable in the first place just so I could get MTV. (Oh, I know that's pretty lame)

AlphaSigOU 11-20-2004 08:56 PM

And... anyone remember those ancient cable box channel selectors that were connected to the TV by a cable (no remote control back then) and channel selection was by a slider? Or when you called the cable company and were told "we haven't gotten around to install cable in your neighborhood yet".

Yep.

My call was always "When are you adding MTV to the lineup?" I think my 1st MTV video was "Eminence Front" by The Who.

Cable did not come to my family's home until after I was in college for a year...

I remember those. They were awesome.

ADqtPiMel 11-21-2004 12:31 PM

A-Ha- Take On Me. Still a great video and one of my favorite songs.

We were living in Fairbanks, Alaska, so cable was a little later getting to the rest of us up there. I want to say that I remember it was "Hello" by Lionel Richie, on VH1.

Hubby remembers the debut of MTV--"Video Killed the Radio Star".

We didn't get cable in my neighborhood until 1986 (I was 7), but my "privileged" cousins had cable from god knows when, and I remember the first video I saw was the Go-Go's VACATION.

me too...although it was really Thriller that got me hooked. funniest video memory though was that i had a slumber party one night in 1986 and we fell asleep with MTV on and there was an earthquake during the night. my name is luka by suzanne vega was playing when the earthquake happened and then we had no cable for a while. odd that the song was what we all remembered but it's not the best song to have playing in your head for long periods of time.
