When did your favorite TV show "Jump the Shark"
Jumping the Shark is a defining moment when your favorite television program has reached its peak. From that point on, the show goes downhill.
When did your favorite TV show just "Stop being good"? Here are when I think my favorites jumped. The Cosby Show-- When Rudy stopped being cute Family matters--When Steve Urkel got too big for that role. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air-- When they got rid of the first mother and replaced her with the other one. Diff'rent Strokes-- When Mr. Drummond got married I have some more but I want to know what are yours? ------------------ |
I Love This One!
O.K. Here they go........ 1). Facts of Life..... when Mrs Garrett left 2). Three's Company ....... when they replaced Chrissy with Terry 3).Save by the Bell....... when they get a new class sunshine1 |
My turn!
Friends- When Ross and Rachel broke up. 90210-When Brenda left A Different World- After Dwayne and Whitley got married |

1)Most Definitely!! When Jada Pinkett and 'dem http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif made their debut. Yuck, yuck, GAG!!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif 2)Designing Women: When Suzanne Sugarbaker left......then when Charlene left and her TV sister Darlene replaced her. Now why did they think they could replace Suzanne or Charlene? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif 3)The Jeffersons: When Lionel and Jenny got married. 4)Martin: When it became obvious that he and Gina were trying not to be in the same scenes. 5)The Steve Harvey Show: When all them d%*# kids got too old to be playing on the show and when the two women of color left. 6) Living Single: When Sinclair and Overton got married and that guy who was trying to push up on Bird (Nia Long) in the Soul Food movie moved into the apartment with Regine and Khadijah. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif 7)New York Undercover: When Torres got killed and Tommy (from Martin) came on the scene. I mean, did Tommy think that he could just bring his overgrown behind from a show like Martin and try to act serious on another one. Be for real!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif 8)Showtime at the Apollo: When 3:00 one morning I happened to realize that it was on and to my suprise Steve Harvey was no longer hosting it, but some CORNBALL was. I tried to give him a chance, but needless to say he blew it. I was DISGUSTED!!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif AND FOR THE FINALE.....DRUM ROLL PLEASE..... 9)Soul Train: When Don Cornelius stopped hosting it! It has been going downhill ever since....The funny thing is, who ever really paid any attention to Don. I guess you never miss your water until your well runs dry. Apparently, Don was 'Da MAN!!!!!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif 10)The Andy Griffith Show: When it began airing in color. I liked the black and white episodes MUCH better!!!!! ------------------ "22 Resurrected Jewels of DiSTinction" Gamma Pi '01 Columbia College 4/12/01 [This message has been edited by Imperial11 (edited May 22, 2001).] |

When the Steve Harvey Show first aired, it had a different "format" (lack of a better word). Steve started out as a music teacher to inner city kids (sort of like a Dangerous Minds sort of thing). In addition to Romeo and Bullethead (who got his nickname becasue he was shot in the head and the bullet is still there), there were 2 female students. I guess Lydia took their place. BTW, SHE gets on my LAST nerve. She's too big to be running all of the time. It's NOT cute.
In my opinion, the new format is MUCH better. I don't think that this show has jumped *YET*. (We'll see what happens with next season now that Lovita is pregnant and Steve and Regina had sex.) Imperial11: You took us back. I forgot about some of those shows! |
Sprin99-Diva,
I am sitting here laughing sooo hard, I am crying!!! The people at work think I'm crazy!! That is my all time favorite of Good Times "DAMN DAMN DAMN". I thought I was the only one who remembered that! |
DST Love: In addition to what Spr99Diva said, one of the girls that left the show was African-American and the other was Hispanic.
Spr99Diva: I heard that the Steve Harvey show was not going to be renewed for next season. I don't remember where I heard this, so I'm not sure how reliable the source was. But, I guess we'll see. ------------------ "22 Resurrected Jewels of DiSTinction" Gamma Pi '01 Columbia College 4/12/01 |
I have some corny ones to add, so bear with me!!
90210: When Brenda left. Someone already mentioned it, but ya'll don't realize..THAT WAS MY SHOW!!!!! MTV Real World: After the lame London season... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif Saturday Night Live: after the cast with Chris Rock, Dennis Miller, et al... it's been crap... Comic View: the white guy was the downfall..he was funny, but he marked the beginning of the end... that's all for now!! ------------------ "I am not yet the author of my life; I am still it's unenlightened protagonist" ---Unknown |
I read that the season coming up will be the final season. I saw it on the Fall line-up for the WB in NYC.
I read in TV Guide that Cedric the Entertainer is in talks with the WB to have his own show called "Cedric the Coach" (but it will not spin off of The Steve Harvey Show") Can you tell that I am a HUGE Steve Harvey Show Fan? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
I think 90210 got bad when Brenda left, of course, but it got even worse and lost its worthiness of my viewership when they graduated from high school, went to this fictional university and brought all of these new people to the show. Everytime I tuned in it was a n ew character and the whole story line was just in a flux! I think there should be a new show like the original 90210...speaking of this, I am going to start a new thread...meet me there y'all.

Alley McBeal- When Alley stopped dating Greg...you knew she was going to always be a loser!
Frasier- when Daphne was pregnant and they just ignored the fact that she was big. and finally.... Bewitched-when they switched Darrens! LOLOLOL |
You can go to http://www.jumptheshark.com to read and vote on shark jumpings on 1000'a of TV shows.

Little House on the Prairie- When Nellie started being nice, when "half-pint" became full pint, and when they brought in Nancy as a Nellie look-alike. (that was kinda creepy to me)
Sanford & Son- When Lamont left and the show was just called Stanford. |
Okay, I just took a look at that "Jumped the Shark" website and it is soooooo funny and ironic that the same things that I said about the shows in my first post in this thread are also the feelings of others. Dag....and all this time, I thought that I was alone!!!

There was an article in Mad magazine about 15 years ago concerning "jumping the shark"--wish I still had it! It had cartoons about how in the fourth season or so, a show will start adding charcters and by the eighth season, a show like "Happy Days" has 2 characters left--a Korean orphan and a monkey.

GIRLFRIENDS
GIRLFRIENDS -- THIS WHOLE SEASON!!
It started with Mya and Darnell divorcing. Then this whole William dating Evil Black Barbie. Then Toni and her "ways" -- I do not like her. Tonight's ep irritated me. Oh and let us not forget Anna Marie Johnson playing the role of BYTCHY BOSS #1. I woulda had to tell that heffa and her friends to get the hayle outta my house. Boss or no boss. And if she wants me to call her Ms. Farley then she would HAVE to call me Ms. Clayton. |
The Simpsons: "Worst Episode Ever!"
When they had that silly show of old clips for no reason. It was a few years ago, but it wasn't an anniversary show or anything like that. Then the fat comic book store owner comes on @ the end and says, "Worst Episode Ever." I agreed. Stilll can't remember why they were showing old clips in the first place. |

Well, several shows have jumped the shark for me. Some have already been mentioned like A Different World, 90210, Little House on the Prarie, and Saved by the Bell. Here are some of mine:
The Cosby Show: when Denise came back from "Africa" married and with a stepdaughter. Mama's Family: When Aunt Fran died suddenly and Ellen and Eunice stopped appearing on the show (this was around the time Rue McClanahan and Betty White went over to "The Golden Girls") Married With Children: When Marcy married Jefferson, although that one episode where Steve comes back and finds out that Marcy has remarried was pretty funny. In the Heat of the Night: When Virgil left the show then died and when Chief Gillespie married that councilwoman and became the sheriff and then they brought in Action Jackson to be the chief of police. The Jenny Jones Show: when all her topics were about makeovers for a couple of seasons after one of her guests kills the other guest a few years ago after he revealed that he had a crush on him Amen: When Thelma and Ruben got married. The plots got be so hackneyed after the wedding episode that I had to stop watching the show althogether. Here are some shows that never really jumped the shark for me: The Simpsons The Golden Girls |
TTT
This one was an interesting read. Wonder what else people would like to add to it.
|
1. Will and Grace- when Grace got married.. the has lost "something"
2. Good Times- when James died 3. Martin- when it was clear that Tisha & Martin weren't getting along and all the shows focused on Martin and Pam:( 4. I remember back in college when Thursday night use to be the night all of US got together to watch Martin, Living Single, and NY Undercover. I think all three sort of "jumped the shark" all at the same time and then all the scheduling conflicts started. I don't think I've watched TV in a block like that since.:( |
ttt for ladylike. . . you might like this thread :)

Days of Our Lives - When Marlene was "possesed"
90210 - Yep, when Brenda left Charmed - When Pru died Good Times - when Florida left (when she and her new man moved to Arizona) Dukes of Hazard - when Roscoe left Everybody else pretty much covered everything else for me. |

The writers of "Girlfriends" make me wanna throw a pot of hot grits on them for the mess that the show has become. I mean Toni at the club droppin' it like it's hot while 9 months pregnant...c'mon nah. :( |

Charmed lost it for me when they started adding the kids, especially the older one. (Are both of them named Wyatt? That's how little attention I pay to that show.) Sanford and Son: when Lamont left. *sigh* I Love Lucy: when they picked up and moved to the country. What really sucked to me was when Lucille Ball got other shows after I Love Lucy. I've seen 'em a couple of times, and they never did anything for me. Growing Pains: remember when Chrissy was born? The beginning of the end. It was fun seeing Maggie pregnant and dealing with her kids, but it lost it after the baby came along. |
Everyone has pretty much covered this but I have a few more...
My Wife and Kids-When Jr. got his girlfriend pregant. Two shows that are about to jump the shark... That 70s Show- because Ashton and Topher are leaving One on One- because the daughter has graduated from high school Sorry... but Girlfriends, everytime I see that show I get:mad: |
Dang I feel sorry for yall. My favorite show, The Monk, is still going strong. Yall should start watching it.
|
Hello all!
For me it was when: Trading Spaces: When they brought Kia on (sorry i know she is sista n' all but can't get with her stuff) Agree on the Living Single one (esp. when Kyle and Regine left..i wanted to see Regine's wedding).. Rap City- When Joe and Leslie left...Tigga had to grow on me now i barely watch BET at all except for their specials. |
I would like to add:
Angel - when Cordelia left. I wanted to see her and Angel get together. While You Were Out - When Theresa left and brought in that boy. ( I still watch sometimes to catch a glimpse of Andrew:) ) 24 - When they got rid of Dennis Haysbert only to bring him back at the end of this season. |
Quote:
Ditto!! I hate to see Black shows get canceled, but MWAK needed the boot because EVERY ep. since Jr. got his girlfriend preggers was about Jr. and the baby. Or the dad. They should have changed the title to My Son and His Baby Mama because hardly any episodes focused on the wife or the other 2 kids. |
I got one more and please don't get mad...
Ellen-When she came out (and you know what I mean). It wasn't funny after that.
