Got a Paycheck; time to blow it! :)

Woo hoo! Did some freelance PR a few weeks ago and just got a check for my work. So naturally, I'm going to do what any redblooded purse fanatic would do: I'm blowing every cent of it on a new Louis! :) There are three that I really love (well, three within my price range anyway), so need some help from my fellow GC purse fanatics in choosing.

Valkryie, maybe you could ask Kierkegaard and little Valkyrie what they think. I hear Valkyrie especially knows her Louis :)

I really like the first one.I think it might be more practical for you too.Think of all the things you drag around in your purse for your daughters. However, the third one is really cute too.

CutiePie2000 11-06-2004 06:26 PM

I like #3. I prefer 1-strap rather than 2-straps, as I find that the 2nd strap is always falling off my shoulder and that drives me cuckoo for cocoapuffs.

Also #3 is big and can accomodate lots of stuff and I need a BIG PURSE.

tunatartare 11-06-2004 06:43 PM

I really like 1 and 2.

wrigley 11-06-2004 07:06 PM

It's a tie between 1 and 3.

cutiepatootie 11-06-2004 07:09 PM

I like #1

ISUKappa 11-06-2004 07:18 PM

I like #1 too. I've just recently become a fan of big, two-strap purses. So versatile! Who would have known?

Def. #1

norcalchick 11-06-2004 10:57 PM

I like #1 and #3. I'm a big Louis fan also! hehe. #3 comes in different size for not that much more. I'm not sure about #1, but it may come in different sizes.

honeychile 11-06-2004 11:12 PM

I like #1 & #2.

Freelance money should always be spent on fun stuff! :)

WCUgirl 11-06-2004 11:16 PM

I vote for #3.

Enjoy your new Louis! :)

It's not one of your choices, but I would recommend this one:

JESUS MARY AND JOSEPH! That's a 3 thousand dollar bag... That *almost* pays for an entire quarter of my college. That's like carrying college tuition on your arm. I think I'm getting hives just thinking about it. I can't even justify buying a 50 dollar sweater...

Wine&SilverBlue 11-07-2004 01:05 AM

I'm more of a damier fan than signature

ETA: this is so unique but gorgeous.. of course I can't justify spending that on a bag, but it's fun to live vicariously through you ;)

I didn't say I was going to BUY it...I just think it's pretty!

Please, if I had a spare $3K laying around, it would be put directly on bills. Non-profit work is nice, but it's a guaranteed way NOT to get rich fast :)

Ooooh go for the Looping, I think. Something about the Boulogne, I just don't like it. I also like the Cabas Piano, although I agree with whoever said that two strap bags are much more annoying than those with one strap. Enjoy your Vuitton!

Leave it to a DZ to find one of the most expensive bags in the collection! ;) It IS gorgeous, though, isn't it? You have excellent taste, my sister :)

Thanks everyone for your opinions! I'm going shopping Tuesday so please keep the suggestions coming :)

valkyrie 11-07-2004 11:58 AM

Well, I discussed this with the felines, and here are our recommendatoins:

We're not particularly fond of the boulogne, but we're torn between the cabas piano and the looping -- they're both fabulous. I have a cabas mezzo and I LOVE it more than any woman should really love a handbag. I'm not sure if you're super careful with your bags, but I'm not and I've noticed that the bottom is getting rather dirty -- you wouldn't have that problem with the looping bag.

I have that one and it's great! You have the outside pockets where I put like chapsticka and gloss and other lil things. And the inside is really nice. It has this red suede like material. And it's roomy! Sometimes I carry my wallet, full size brush, phone, keys, and like block buster movies when I'm on my way to rturning them, or like a bottle of water.

ETA: Do NOT get bags on eBay unless you are ok with knowing that you may have a fake.

Yep, I have champagne tastes on a beer budget ;).

I'm trying to convince the Mr. to buy me this one for Christmas: http://www.eluxury.com/browse/produc...ectionID=6000. His response? "You do realize that bag costs more than your first car, right?" Sigh. I think I see Coach in my future :).

Jill1228 11-08-2004 02:50 AM

I am loving the first 2! Yes, handbags are my fetish too!

GeekyPenguin 11-09-2004 02:19 AM

I'd get the Cabas.

C'mon, KR...Don't leave us in suspense-which one did you get?!

On a Louis related note: I saw a lady carrying this at the grocery store the other day: http://store1.yimg.com/I/yhst-823761...8_1818_4384215 . (this is a replica, but you get the point) Tres tacky.

Oh.. that's the best one. Practical and classy. You will use it all the time. ok, I would use it all the time.

KillarneyRose 11-19-2004 12:29 AM

The winner of the "Tracy Tosses Away an Entire Paycheck" derby is:

the Cabas Piano!!!

I've had my bag for about a week and she is settling in nicely, although she doesn't get along very well with my Kates and Coaches. She has a sense of entitlement; tries to hog shelf space because she's more expensive than my other bags. Other than that, though, I am loving her and I thank everyone who chimed in with an opinion! :)

norcalchick 11-19-2004 03:13 AM

Were you able to get a wallet also?

Congrats on the new bag!!! if you are anal like me about keeping the vachetta clean so it ages into a nice honey color, i recommend the following, especially since she is still very new:

[from a LV lovers group that i belong to]

PREVENTATIVE & ACTIVE CARE:
I recommend using the Leather Care and Apple Garde treatments from Apple Products to protect your bag's beauty, as well as to ensure it's value. You can find these products at www.leatherstuff.com

All new bags should be immediately treated with Apple Garde. Apple Garde is a leather rain & stain repellent spray that protects against water spots, body oil, wine, and grease. It has also been rumoured that it will also slow down the patina process of your bag just a bit, but I have personally seen no tangible proof of that.

To treat: take your new purse to a highly ventilated area (preferably, outside!) and lay your bag down on a hand towel. Because the Louis Vuitton Monogram/Murakami canvas and Vernis bodies are already pre-treated (and Epi doesn't need to be treated at all), you are really only spraying the straps and trim. Spray a light mist for about 10 seconds, holding the aerosol can about 10 inches away from the purse. Don't worry about getting the spray on the body because it won't absorb. Wait about 30 minutes and do another final mist. Your straps will be considerably darker, and you may feel like jumping off a bridge but take heart~~they will lighten back to their original light patina eventually. It will take much longer than indicated on the bottle~~perhaps even a few days, but they will lighten back. However, if you have OVER-SPRAYED, then your straps will be a shade or so darker than they were orginally. Keep that in mind, you heavy-handed divas!
Wipe all excess spray off the canvas, Vernis body, and/or hardware. Let your bag dry unencumbered in a shaded area outdoors (or a well-ventilated area).

Apple Garde treatments will depend on how often you use your purse: an everyday bag should be sprayed and treated every couple months or so. Occasion bags can be treated much less frequently.

For older bags with established patina: use the Leather Care Lotion to remove dirt, grime, and body oil, as well as to restore moisture. Get a clean rag (put the lotion on the rag) and use liberally on your straps, especially in the area that sees the most contact with the skin (it will be darker in this area than the rest of the straps). You will feel the leather softening up immediately. Let dry and buff with another clean rag. Wait another hour or so and treat with Apple Garde. You want to condition your straps with Leather Care Lotion regularly (once every couple of months) to keep your leather supple and prevent drying, cracking, and mildewing.

Louis lovers are split almost 50/50 about whether to pre-treat or let the natural color of their bag develop. I vacillate between both sides; some bags I have sprayed while others I have not. There is no rhyme or reason to my inconsistency, but I do lean towards the natural patina process. I do, however, always use the Leather Conditioner for older bags.
I know some people who always condition their new bags, but I tend to believe that new leather has plenty of it's own natural oils.
Do NOT use the Leather Cleaner on any LV vachetta leather. It is way too harsh and will STAIN.

DZGirl 11-19-2004 06:07 PM

Yay for your new Louis! :) I liked that one the best of the three!

Peaches-n-Cream 11-19-2004 07:10 PM

I want a fancy bag also.

RioLambdaAlum 11-20-2004 02:57 AM
