College Boredom??
Thanks Sands (MaMaBuddha) for planting the seed for this thread.
Alright y'all, it's confession time. Here's the situation: you and your friends are in the dorm. It's 1am, no one is sleepy and everyone is bored. What did you do? **digging into the SSU memory bin** my freshman year, the big thing to do was walk to the Kroger across from the main gate, which was a good 25 minute walk at an "i'm late for class" pace. there'd be at least 10 of us, guys & girls, but here's the thing: there was only ONE person who actually needed something from the store (usually kool-aid or ramen noodles). OH! i remember we had a water fight in the dorm. yes, that's right INSIDE the building. it was HILARIOUS!! folks were using cups, mugs, garbage cans, the sprayer on the shampoo bowl...it was wild. the cool thing was, security LET us do it. they didn't try to get us to go back to bed nor did we get in trouble. MAN, those were the days. NEXT!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
ROFLMAO, you all had a shampoo bowl in the dorm, **thinking** . . . . You KNOW you went to a BLACK COLLEGE, if you have a shampoo bowl in the dorm bathroom.
hmmmmm, my freshman year the lights went out, remember that Ideal08? THey were out for like 16 hours. Anywho we hung out. I remember we used to walk to Burger King and would WALK thru the DRIVE THRU and place pur orders. ROFLMAO We had water gun drive bys, we would carry super soakers in our backpacks and books in our hands http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Man for me when I was bored I would go to the library with books only to talk(READ: PROCASTINATE) and cuss people out ( http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif @ IDEAL08). We would go to the Black Culture House too. |

you darn right we had shampoo bowls in the bathrooms..the bootleg (and DANG GOOD) hairstylists had to have somewhere to wash their clients http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif THANK YOU for mentioning walking through the burger king drive through....we'd stop by there on our way back from Kroger http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif LOL |
When I was a freshman at my HBCU we just used to hang out, outside in front of the "freshman complex". At all times of the night and for NO GOOD reason except because we were finally grown and we could, but boy was it fun!!!! I did use to wonder though, who those silly girls were that just had to pull the fire alarm at 2 a.m., come on I had to hide in the closet so I wouldn't have to go stand outside in the cold for 20 minutes. Then we had to walk back up the steps because we couldn't ride the elevator..uggghh and I lived on the sixth floor, good thing the dorm was never really on fire!!!
|
When we get bored in my dorm, we dim the lights in the hall, turn somebody's radio up loud, and have a floor party. And everybody on the floor was cool with it. Some of the best parties I've ever been to in my life.
|
During finals week one semester no one wanted to go to sleep. So one of my floormates took his stereo speakers and faced it out the window, hooked it up to his TV...put some porn in..and, well, I guess you can imagine where it went from there.
The moans and groans woke up the entire complex. |

my most memorable times at school in the dorm life was watching the greeks from the windows and imitating their calls from the dorm and running to go hide in the closets just in case they came up to the room. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif what can i say we were freshman and we had curfews!!! then...we use to stand out on the AVE (i think everyone had an ave) and watch all the guys with the low riders and hydaulics bounce by. i have so many other funny stories...but i must keep it pg 13 for greekchat. it involves some thunderbird, maddog 20/20 and sisco and a pajama jam and a bunch of silly freshman girls from different parts of the country!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif [This message has been edited by MaMaBuddha (edited March 10, 2001).] |

This is a good topic!
Well let's just say that my hall voted me the Queen of Procrastination! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif When we were bored, my friends and I would usually go to Meijers around 1 or 2am and look at EVERYTHING! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif Or we'd just go chill in someone's room and talk real late about how much we missed high school and how we did or didn't want to grow up and go off into the "real" world. But that's about it. Everything in my college town unfortunately closes at 10, except Meijers. So, we didn't have many options to choose from when we got bored except to chill and talk. It was still fun though. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif [This message has been edited by ZChi4Life (edited March 11, 2001).] |
Wonderful, you just described my entire freshman year. Did you go to school in TX?
I'm still catching up on my sleep from those middle-of-the-night prank fire alarms. [This message has been edited by Nubian (edited March 12, 2001).] |

I remember...
One of my floormates that could really sing, would sing the same song everyday... "DON'T YOU CLOSSSSEEE ONE MORE DOOR...." and at that point we'd all get up and slam our doors. When TLC came out with the video for "Baby, Baby, Baby"... where they were living in a college dorm, a few of my floormates and I got dressed up like Left-Eye, Chilli, and T-boz and imitaded them. I mean condom over the eye and everything. [This message has been edited by Lovealious (edited March 12, 2001).] |

I remember one night we had a Christmas party in the Black Culture House and after wards had a big old snowball fight. Sooooo much fun, soooooo much fun. |
One word--Wal-Mart. Everyone always needs SOMETHING and the car is always full. And it never fails--you always see someone that you know who had the same idea.
|
Well I lived in a dorm that had students ranging from ages 16-40 (my school is really non traditional)...what most people including myself did during those times were:
1. Play spades...or dominoes 2. Somebody would get their radio, and a whole bunch of mix dancehall/reggae cd's, and we would dim the lights in the lobby and hold something we would call (Club Bay Vista [that was the name of our residence hall]) 3. Hop in the car and go to wal-mart 4. Just sit and wait for the drunk dorm residents to come back from the club and fall out in the lobby http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif 5. Go buy a whole lot of chips, liquor, etc, and have a party in someone's room (those were the best!) I miss dorm life....but not enough to pay 3000 a semester for a room http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif PrettyPetite |
I remember the games and watching the walk of shame, and walking up to A&P, but the best times were water fights and sunbathing on the roof.

it's about that time. the semester is coming to a close and you're stressed with finals. what kind of devilment lurks in your minds?

OOOOOHHH!! I'm glad you brought this back to the top!! I spent Friday night in the town of my alma mater reminiscing with some old college friends.
We (not me, I use "we" as an inclusive term for all Witt students, but I DID NOT do this) would steal (borrow? for $25,000 I think "we" earned it) cafeteria trays from the CDR and use them as sleds in the Hollow!! Oh, the fun!!!! The hill was huge, and we would go sledding at like 10:00 at night, when it was good and dark. It was a good study break!! And it was SO much fun watching people sled right into trees!!!! LMAO!!!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Dang, as I think back, someone could have pulled a Sonny Bono, and it wouldn't have been that funny. But whatever, it was funny as all get out back then!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
Hmmm...thinking back....
Well, a sure fire way to pass the time was sitting around with my girls in someone's room talking, and gossiping and laughing all night. Then around 2 or so we could look out over the path theat led from where the dorm with the most Black men to the dorm with the most Balck women and see who was creeping where for their late night booty call. If you stayed up til around 6, you could see some of the same fols creeping back home, too. We would also do things like throw sweatbox parties in our African American Residential dorm (Ujama) *Girl, I hope that is not a fresh perm you are wearing up in there* or watch movies and play cards or dominoes. Ahhh, those were the days! |
My freshman year I remember playing spades and dominoes for wash money in the t.v room or just sitting up talking about all of our no-good ex-boyfriends that we never got over. That's the only thing I miss from DU.
|
When we got bored we would turn off the lights and play hide and seek in the dark. Or we put the stereo in the hall and dance until the one person who was studying complained to the dorm mother. We also played stupid games, like who can knock down the wall, and somebody actually did it one night and put a whole in the wall.

Sorry it took a while to get back to you. Yes, the moans took place at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Now that it's finals week again, I can't help but think of that semester. I remember doing a search on sororities represented in Hawaii and I came across a website created by Deltas from Hawaii. Talk about small world...I met a Delta last Saturday at the pier when my BF came home from Mexico. Her husband is one of my BF's chiefs on the ship. She saw my AGD letters and we immediately started a conversation about Greek life at UH! She told me that many of the Deltas in Hawaii are military wives, so they're each other's comfort while some of their husbands are out on deployment. I wish I could remember her name. I'll just refer to her as Chief's wife for now. She's such a sweet lady. I'll probably see her around at Coast Guard functions. If you or any one of you Deltas ever find your way to my rock let me know! |
We weren't necessarily bored, but we stayed up many nights playing Bid Whist and Penuchle. I learned all the card games that year! We usually got hungry late at night and at my HBCU back in the day http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif we had to sneak out after curfew. It was a group effort, someone on the third floor had to decoy the Dorm Matron up there with excessive noise, then the chosen runners would go out to buy the food, and upon our return-(it had to be coordinated) We would run back to the dorm--There was no way Campus Security wouldn't see you coming back, but we could outrun them in our sleep! Our compatriots would be watching and when we came running, they would decoy the Dorm Matron again and allow us to be let back in the dorm and escape up the stairs.

I am wasting away time looking at jail dudes.....
Anyway, in UG, we would stay up until about 6 a.m., sleep, go to class for noon, some back and nap, and party all over again EVERY NIGHT!! It was my junior year and I just needed stuff to do. We pulled pranks, played video games, etc. I don't know what drove us to it.... |
Go door to door in the dorms seeing what we could borrow.
Nothing was off-limits. ;) Hang outside the bars busting people who we thought might have fake IDs before they got to the door. (Retribution) |
I used to go to Meijers and just walk around and/or get some grocery shopping done. Or go to Media Play when they have the midnight madness sale (these are held usually when a long-awaited DVD or CD or book was about to hit the street). On campus, I would go to the computer lab and chat or hang out in the Doan Center (SVSU's student union). :)

I live in a dorm that is very very very ancient, old as heck. Anyway the lights are constantly going out. The other night we had an "all dorm" slumber party. There are only about 80 of us in the building. Everyone got out their illegal candles (we aren't allowed to have them cause the building will go up in flames wayyyyyyyyyyy too easily) all went down to the lobby and played cards, listened to the bootleg battery operated radio, and hung out. It was too funny. Imagine about 75 girls all in rollers, house shoes, and pajamas sitting around in candlelight playing spades, spoons, and trivial pursuit. And doing the soul train line to the fuzzy far off black radio station.

Somebody knocked on my door to wake me up. When I opened it, they threw a trashcan full of water on me. When the preceptor got back, he didn't notice how wet the floor (and carpet) was. He asked what the smell was and we were like "Yeah, I smell that too. I've been trying to figure out what that was". He never found out. |
LOL....ya'll were trippin out!
Well seeing as how I am only a Junior the memory are still fresh.
I remember when I was a freshman, me and my group of friends would pile into my friends SUV(8 of us) and ride around looking for a club that would let us ALL in...never quite worked out that way though:) . I remember when we would all go to our friends room on Central Campus and chill in there till 6 in the morning, ordering pizza, knowing we all have 8 oclock classes. This would happen every other day. Another thing we would do is when we were bored we would all get up and go to Walmart, K Mart, Lowes, Media Play, Best Buy, or places like that and just act up. On time we went to Wal Mart and REALLY tripped out. We went to the toy section and started playing with all of the toys. One of my friends started riding a bike all over the store. I put on some roller blades and rode them all around the store. Another one of my friends got on one of those lil scooters and rode it around the store, but when he tried to stop it stopped too fast and he went flying off the scooter and the barbies broke his fall. Two others were playing soccer on one aisle. And the the last two people found one of those handicapped shopping carts and were riding around in it crashing into the aisles and trying to see how fast it went. In the middle of all that the manager comes on the intercom and says that we need to stop before we get kicked out:D :D We just left out the store laughing our a$$ off. We used to trip out ALL the time like that. |
