Cute or Tacky???
http://www.stitchzone.com/twillcolors.html
I kinda wanted to get my lil sis a sweatshirt with letters in one of the designer patterns. You can view them if you scroll all the way down. I think the patterns are cute, but I wanted to get other people's opinions on whether you think it would be tacky/gaudy to have letters in a gucci-like or burburry-like pattern (I'm thinking of getting the GG grey or GG cherry or GG navy blue). I wish I could just ask my lil sis her opinion, but she doesn't know I'm getting her something and I really want it to be a suprise. |
I wouldn't do it.
|
Fake logos are always tacky. No one is honestly going to believe she has gucci letters or LV or whatever. What's the point?
|
It's the Gucci print.... and I wouldn't do it either!! But if it's your thing go for it I guess!!!
ETA: okay mayyyyybe I would go with the Burberry Print if it was paired up with a nicer shirt, not just a Beefy T and paired with my cute Burberry bag :) too bad they dont have the burberry pink plaid...that would look cute on a nice pink shirt ;) |
Step away from the fake fabric....
|
I always love the burberry stuff-always did even before I "realized" it was trendy/ fashionable/ whatever-so i think burberry knockoff is OK because its plaid and well all plaid is awesome in my opinion!
I say, if you really really like it, do it. If you just like because it's "gucci"-DON'T. If you wouldn't normally give her letters that are aqua, then giving her aqua gucci ones isn't going to make it any better. I think the gucci stuff-real or not-is tacky as hell anyway. LV is worse... |
Our greek shop in Las Vegas- the university connection - specializes in designer fabrics. It's not fakes here anyways - the owner pays a large fee every year to use them. Half the greeks on campus have designer letters though.
|
I have to agree with MissOh2Cute, I like the burberry plaid but I wouldn't be a fan of anything with the actual brand written on it. I am the same way with bags though too, I would never get a bag with the logo printed all over it like a lot of Gucci, Fendi, LV and Coach bags do.
But if you really like this kind of stuff I am pretty sure there is another site with a bigger selection of "designer fabrics". I remember it having the burberry plaid in several colors. Too bad I can't remember the URL! |

Heck, even if it was real fabric i'd still consider it pretty tacky. But I also doubt that the companies would license the use of the fabric for those purposes- I know they're very strict about who they license to and for what purposes. These logo prints are just too ostentatious for letters.

I see knockoff letters everywhere in my school--even fraternities have Burberry and Gucci letters! But I think it's cute. Why not? Half these girls have the fake bags to match...lol. But really though, it's just a pattern. It's cute. Letters come in so many patterns now.

Is it just me, or do those teeny tiny LV bags smack of desperation? It's like "Look at me with my Louis Vuitton bag. It's tiny because I couldn't afford a properly sized bag but at least it's VUITTON!" I suppose it depends a great deal on the way the person is dressed. I'm less inclined to think that a person is desperate for Vuitton if they're dressed nicely as opposed to a twenty year old in shoes from Payless (no offensive to those that are twenty and wear Payless. Hey, that was me in college.) </hijack> |
I am sitting here thinking that anybody who would pay that much for a purse has to be half insane, or a millionaire. That's a mortgage payment!
|
Your little is more likely to keep the solid letter shirt.

I know several people with LVs (fairly small, but not tiny ones) who take them everywhere, and have for several years. Doesn't matter what they wear or whether it matches or is an appropriate style. That does smack of desperation... I'd rather see someone with a 20 dollar liz purse that matches their outfit |
The scariest thing I have seen ia a middle aged woman in a gold colored velour Gucci print sweat suit, Gucci print gold sneakers, a matching Gucci print hat and a Gucci print purse....

You sound like you really like the fabric since you posted the link. You know your little better than any of us do, and if you think she'll find it cute, go for it! While designer fabric isn't for everyone, if she'll wear it, you should get it. :) Not to mention that she'll probably just love anything from her big! :D Hope that helps! |
EW. Please don't use those fabrics, they just look so bad! Then again, I'm also growing really tired of all the logo stuff. Maybe look for a nice stripes or polka dot print instead?
|
Stop and think- do you really care what other people think for one? I mean you're obviously not going to wear a shirt that comes out looking like crap, so who cares. If you PERSONALLY like it, go for it. I can afford Burberry, Gucci, etc. but I personally wouldn't think to get a shirt made into it. Then again I bought Vera fabric and turned it into letters to match my purse when I pledged and I could have cared less what anyone else thought.
Here's the thing- be true to yourself. You should have a good idea of what your lil is like as well. If the shirt is cute who cares if it's a knock-off pattern- it's still a cute pattern. Don't give it to her saying "look it's fake Gucci" she probably won't care. She'll probably just be happy her Big was thoughtful enough to get her a shirt at all. And again, if it's cute to you, it's cute to wear, because you can wear it with confidence- something which is ALWAYS attractive! :D |

I never thought about getting Vera letters made. My new family letters are Lilly Pulitzer, and EVERYONE in the chapter is super jealous, because they are hot.
I think the Gucci print is over the top, though. But I think if you want them, you should get them! |

i want lilly pulitzer letters!!! |

I'm of the school of thought that doesn't really like wearing logo fabric, period, but fake is even worse than real. My diagnosis: tacky.

As for bags, I tend to use the same bag as my "everyday" bag -- its a blue/white Coach small flap soho hobo. The fabric is a blue/grey and looks nice with jeans, as well as with my blue-grey wintercoat and boots. I'll switch bags if I want something bigger, or if my outfit calls for something black or brown. In HS I used to change my bags to match each outfit, but now I tend to alternate between that Coach bag and a black tote (with a dressy black bag or my new wristlet for nights out). I know I'm rambling  but I don't really see a problem with wearing the same jewelry/bag/shoes most of the time and changing occasionally if the circumstances call for something different. |
I carry my Coach wristlet everyday. It was a gift from my boyfriend and I love it, and sadly, I don't have enough money to buy a larger Coach.
So do I reek of desperation? |

I just transfer it from bag to bag or use it on its own :) I think wristlets in general are extremely convenient for a college student. Doesn't have to be a specific brand name ETA: mine was also a gift.. well, er... I exchanged a gift and got my wristlet ;) |

What does the tiffany 10 row bracelet look like? Is it the one with the heart in the middle and a lot of tiny chains? If so, I love that one. I have the bracelet with the heart that practically every girl has, plus a really pretty plain silver one my ex-boyfriend got me for my birthday last year. I have 3 necklaces too but mainly wear the L one. I have like 6 Coach purses but usually only carry 2 (what a waste of money :( ). The majority of the time I carry my black C one and the other time I carry my brown one with the mini Cs. In the winter I use this really cute one my mom got me last Christmas that's like plaid flannel. ..I guess that's it, now that everyone knows all my jewelry and purse collection. :p |
