Voting Roll Call!!!

I won't sound trite and use any cliches or historical anecdotes, because you've, like Sunshine Anderson said, heard it all before.

Weigh in AFTER you cast your vote. If you voted early, weigh in now!!

Steeltrap 11-01-2004 06:01 PM

I voted a couple of weeks ago, absentee in San Diego County. I claim SD, not the OC.

TonyB06 11-01-2004 06:06 PM

do the thang....

Let me co-sign what Ideal08 said earlier. We all know the history, the terrible price paid by many in our community for us to have the right to be heard. On tomorrow, make em' hear you.

AKA2D '91 11-01-2004 06:16 PM

I mailed my ballot in last week!

:D
I can return home late tomorrow. :D

RedefinedDiva 11-01-2004 06:58 PM

I voted absentee last week!! I CANNOT WAIT for the results to roll in!!

UpPinkies 11-01-2004 07:07 PM

Polls open at 6:00am in St. Louis County!!!

So I will be there at 5:00am to stand in line so I can get in and out.

vanda 11-01-2004 07:27 PM

I mailed in my absentee ballot two weeks ago. Folks are getting tired of me asking " You are going to vote aren't you?"

My boss was  because a girl on the Tom Joyner Morning show was being a butt because he asked her if she was going to vote and she said something along the lines of " I'm gonna try my best"

Exquisite5 11-01-2004 07:30 PM

Voted a few weeks ago by mail!

Wonderful1908 11-01-2004 07:43 PM

I voted last day of early voting last Friday. Long line but so worth it!

CrimsonTide4 11-01-2004 08:01 PM

I early voted Saturday 10.30.04 in Charlotte, NC. :D

Nubian 11-01-2004 08:34 PM

Voted absentee about a week and a half ago from Halifax, Nova Scotia.

SKEEphistAKAte 11-01-2004 09:57 PM

I mailed in my absentee ballot which has me really nervous. It seems too easy for it to get "lost"- especially since I am in Florida.

Along the same lines as TonyB- the students of FAMU hosted an early voting event last week and I was listening to coverage on the radio. The DJ made a profound comment. The turnout for the event was fantastic as the line was wrapped around the state capitol and down the block. They had vendors out donating food and everything. The DJ said "People are complaining and refusing to come out and vote because the line is too long. At least there are no dogs being sicked on us, or fire hoses being turned on us, no one is spitting on us, or throwing rocks at us, in fact, we are in line eating free hotdogs and listening to music. There is no excuse for not voting." I thought he was so on point.

Neosoulchild 11-02-2004 12:53 AM

I voted on Friday.

Me too!

Proverbs31 11-02-2004 08:16 AM

Yes I voted today! I was waiting in line at 6:20am and out of there by 6:45am. :D

Bamboozled 11-02-2004 09:40 AM

I voted at 7:30 this morning. It took about an hour because of the long lines, but I didn't mind waiting. It was SO refreshing to see so many of our young people out casting their votes.

All we can do now is pray and wait.

Virtuous Woman 11-02-2004 09:43 AM

I voted earlier this morning and I'm volunteering on a campaign for state senate this evening. So I'm doing my part and I hope that everyone else does theirs.

VERY REFRESHING!! :D
I saw a girl Saturday reading her Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul standing in line waiting to vote. :)

TonyB06 11-02-2004 10:16 AM

Anticipating a long line, I got to my polling place at 6:30 this morning when it opened. The line inside the building was already more than 200 deep--at 6:30. Most everybody stayed and, for the most part, was patient.

I felt good seeing us man-up and just do the thing....

OrangeMoon 11-02-2004 10:18 AM

I voted!!!:)

The exit prizes were great I got a pencil that says "I Voted!" :D

Exit prizes!?!? No fair! I didn't even get a "Thanks for coming out". :)

nachural 11-02-2004 11:46 AM

I just voted:D

There is such a good feeling, like some intrinsic value in voting. I was in and out in 5 mins, my polling station was at the house at the end of my block;) .

And I got a "thanks for coming out" from the woman there and they were serving refreshments too...he he

AKA2D '91 11-02-2004 11:49 AM

Now, you have it!

Re: do the thang....

Co-sign! Not voting is slapping our ancestors in the face! They fought and died for that right.

Heading out in about 25 minutes to go vote before heading to work

I voted at 10:45 am CST. Proudly wearing the "I Voted" sticker they give you when you exit. I strategized to get there between the early morning voters and the lunch crowd and it worked--only took 30 minutes.

BLUTANG 11-02-2004 02:06 PM

i voted and it took over 2 hours... NOT because the line was long... but because the building was not open at 7:00 AM like it was supposed to be!!!

I am not complaining - because we know how it used to be and i am thankful i had the opportunity (again) to participate in the democratic process... however - i wonder how many people left before the doors opened?

Apparently, someone didn't have a key to the building or a code for the machine or something - so we couldn't even go inside until everything was set up.

I showed up at 7:30 and i say it must have been 8:30 before i got inside... and then another hour inside to actually check in and cast my ballot. At least i took a good book, "Any Way the Wind Blows"...

Conskeeted7 11-02-2004 02:09 PM

I voted at about 10:15 and was done around 10:35. There were only a few people in line...maybe 20 or so.

One comment...if you are going to pass out flyers for a candidate on election day, please know their advantages and why you think I should vote for them. I asked the guy passing out flyers for a presidential candidate why I should vote for this guy. His response was "Who are your other choices?" If I was truly an undecided voter, that would not have compelled me to vote for his candidate. I simply would have been more confused and played iny-miny-miney-moe

Just my $0.08...

LatinaAlumna 11-02-2004 02:42 PM

Voted at 7:30am! No problems to report, but I've heard of some here in Cali. Apparently in South Orange County, one voter was told to remove her sweatshirt that had an American flag on it. Apparently they considered this "propaganda"...it didn't say anything on it!

treblk 11-02-2004 03:10 PM

I voted at 7:30 this morning. I thougth that I was getting an early start by being at my polling place at 6:30, well how about 20 or so folks had my same idea:D :D.
By the time I was done, the room and line was outstanding!!!:D :D

I left my I Voted Yo' Vote' sticker at home:(

HopefulProspective 11-02-2004 03:34 PM

I early voted in Texas last week. Stood in line for around an hour.

ladylike 11-02-2004 03:37 PM

After an hour and a half wait, voting machine breakdown and standing in line behind a ton of voters casting provisional ballots, I voted! :D

People were ON IT at my polling place. Folks rushing up to me asking if I had any problems or if any intimidation took place.

I kinda wanted somebody to challenge me just so I could sic one of those civil rights attorneys on 'em. :o I was ready to open up a can of partisan whoop a.ss. :D http://www.edivaonline.com/YaBBImage...ies/powpow.gif

Cali_Keisha 11-02-2004 04:10 PM

I voted today for that first time ever! I feel so important and proud of myself like i'm really making a difference:D

mccoyred 11-02-2004 04:13 PM

I voted in Maryland before I came to work today. I had to use a provisional ballot because I was not transferred from my prior location (in 2003, I moved to another part of the same county).

However, there was no big deal about the provisional ballot. The poll worker looked and saw that I was registered last year so I had to fill out a registration with my new info (even though I did that when I changed my drivers license last year) and complete a paper ballot. The entire package was placed in a one-way day-glo orange bag marked Provisional Ballots.

I was in the polling place for a total of about 45 minutes (30min in line) and I was the only person during that time who had to cast a provisional ballot.

RBL 11-02-2004 04:42 PM

I voted this morning and I must say that it was a beautiful sight seeing all the young brothers and sisters in there voting(30 min wait which is huge in my town). I lived in small town NC where my county is number 1 in the state in unemployment and it was great to see all those young people voting for their future.

Regardless of the outcome the Alphas, Deltas, Omegas, NAACP, and various student orgs did a great job in getting peple informed, registered and to the polls.

***HIp Hip Hooray for the FIRST TIME VOTER(S)***

lil_sunshine 11-02-2004 05:33 PM

I VOTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At about 11:30 this morning, I did the dayum thing!!!!!!! And I felt great when I finished. :D

futurestar1 11-02-2004 05:47 PM

I voted today!!!

I was at the polls at 7:00 am putting my Democratic vote all over the ballot!

skeeliteful 11-02-2004 06:07 PM

I mailed my absentee ballot week before last. I felt my vote would do A LOT more back in Florida than here in Texas  . Let's just hope it doesn't get "lost".
