swing states

i dont know if this has been started or not, but...

who else lives in a swing state?

aren't you sick of all the signs and tv ads? i am and so ready for tuesday to be done and over with....

i live in ohio

AlphaFrog 10-31-2004 04:04 PM

I'm glad I don't...

I live in Edward's home state (NC) and he's not even bothering to campagin here because it's useless...

Munchkin03 10-31-2004 04:58 PM

Yes, and no.

I'm a legal resident of Florida, and my ballot was mailed a few days ago.

I currently live in NY, so I have the "power" of living in a swing state without the hassle that comes with the ads and haggling over Florida votes.

ZTAngel 10-31-2004 04:59 PM

Not only do I live in a swing state (Florida) but I also live in one of the most targeted areas for the elections which is known as the I-4 corridor. It's the area along I-4 which includes three major cities: Tampa, Orlando, and Daytona Beach. The Central Florida area could swing either way during this election so we have more ads on TV than any other part of Florida. I just want the election to be over so I don't have to see these crappy commercials anymore.
On top of it, Spike Lee and P. Diddy keep calling my cell phone to tell me to vote on Tuesday. They are wasting my minutes.

Why aren't they calling me? I have a Florida cell phone number!

Are you serious? That's deep!

I read yesterday that 1.8 million people early voted in Florida. I live in NC -- probably not a swing state but my ballot clearly read Kerry/Edwards.

ZTAngel 10-31-2004 05:22 PM

It was cool the first couple of times I got the calls but Spike Lee called at 10:30am (recorded automated message, of course...I'd be more excited if he called for real) and I was mad because he woke me up out of hangover sleep. Plus I already voted for Kerry/Edwards last week. :)

I love living in a swing state.

Although it probably helps that I watch next to zero television.
And have a cell phone and not a land line.

AGDee 10-31-2004 08:20 PM

At least when you live in a swing state, you feel your vote matters! I'm sick of the hype on both sides though, and wish the "No call" list applied to political campaigners too!

I was told that it's illegal to call a cell phone for political reasons. Hmm...

Anyhow, just in the last hour, I have received 4 telephone calls for my vote. Also, the sheer amount of political ads boggles the mind! If the money spent on campaigning was put toward feeding the homeless or finding a cure for AIDS, we'd have it settled by now.

My name is honeychile, and I approve of this message.

EagleChick19 10-31-2004 08:38 PM

I live in the swing state of Pennsylvania (near Philadelphia.)

Positive about living in a swing state:
It's nice to know that the candidates do care about your state.

Negative about living in a swing state:
On the other hand, it's annoying to turn on the TV and see the latest photo op/get a phone call advertising for a particular candidate.

Bush has been in PA 43 times since he "became" president in 2000.

I'll be glad when Tuesday hits, and things can back to normal.

BTW: I am registered to vote and plan to go the polls on Nov. 2nd.

honeychile 10-31-2004 08:40 PM

I feel your pain, EagleChick! I heard Pennsylvania referred to as "The White House North" on the news today! I think both candidates have been here over 50 times!

EagleChick19 10-31-2004 08:50 PM

honeychile,
Aren't you from Pittsburgh? :D Pittsburghers are cool in my book.

Back to the thread at hand....

But, the Democrats want to keep PA for this election since Gore won it by just a smidge in 2000. It's also helpful that the Gov. (Rendell) is also a Democrat and used to the head of the DNC.

Here's my political message: NO MORE POLITICAL ADS!

My name is EagleChick19...and I've approved this msg..LOL

honeychile 10-31-2004 09:05 PM

Yes, I'm near the 'Burgh - along with many other stellar Greek Chatters! :) I did date a guy in school from Delaware County, though, if it helps.

Rendell HAS to bring PA to the Democrats to save his own reputation. Needless to say - and nothing against Rendell - but I hope he blows it. :)

Dude, I was in Philly for the WEEKEND and I thought I was going insane with all the political ads. Can't imagine having to deal with that for months on end.

Yesterday, I don't know if someone fell asleep at the TV station switch or what, but I saw the very same Kerry ad FOUR TIMES in a row. I mean, I can handle four DIFFERENT ads, but hearing the same thing over and over and over and over made me want to hurt someone!

EagleChick19 10-31-2004 09:36 PM

Honeychile: Delaware County is close enough for me. :) Yes, you're right that Rendell has to bring it home for the Democrats. Heck, he and other celebs (i.e. Valerie Harper) went stumping for the Dems in Lock Haven (where I went to college.) That part of the state is VERY rural and conservative.

You and the other stellar 'burgh Greek Chatters ROCK!

DolphinChicaDDD: All the political ads are driving me insane. You can't turn on the tv without seeing an ad from either: a) a local candidate or b) from the national candidates.

I hadn't heard that but good to know.
I think the reason they might be calling my cell is because when I switched my voter registration from Broward County to Orange County a few months ago, I did it through the MTV website. I think they may have asked for a phone number but I can't remember.
But, seriously, I've been getting at least one call a day on my cell from some celebrity telling me to vote or some other random person. They usually block their number so I'm hesitant to answer when I see "unknown" show up on my cell except that my parents call me via calling card so their number also shows up blocked. Sigh....
After Tuesday, I will no longer have to deal with this.

I live in a swing state. I love it. I love knowing that people in my state are intelligent enough to not blindly follow one party or the other, and I love that Wisconsin matters to the nation. :)

mmcat 11-01-2004 08:38 AM

ads ads and more ads in new mexico ... also every hard hitter has been through. bush even went to my old stomping grounds, alamogordo, on a sunday afternoon. all for five electoral votes.

I think you're right. It would make sense that MTV would collect numbers-- many of their 18+ audience are members of the cell-phone-only crowd-- and then have P. Diddy and Spike Lee on recorded messages.

PS: Wisconsin is also a swing state, and I'm sick of the hype-- and the junk mail I keep getting from W. I haven't gotten anything Kerry, but my neighbors keep dumping W literature into our mailbox. And how the hell did the RNC get my address, anyway?

We've gotten tons of W literature too - it's ridiculous. Did you know that John Kerry wants to close down schools? We keep getting crap from "All Children First," some fools in Michigan.
