2004 World Series

Go Cardinals!!!

Anyone care to predict?

BobbyTheDon 10-23-2004 08:00 PM

Cardinals 4-2.

I HATE THE RED SOX!

PhiPsiRuss 10-23-2004 08:01 PM

Boston. They have Mo on their team. That's right, Mo Mentum is a great player, and I think that he will carry the day.

The1calledTKE 10-23-2004 08:02 PM

I hope the Sox win but I don't ever dare predict. Being a Sox fan for so long I believe in jinxes.

It's the second inning, and you're already wrong!!! HAHAHAHAHA!

polarpi 10-23-2004 10:03 PM

I see it going all 7 games.....I'm picking the Cardinals (although I love Larry Lucchino in Boston's office).

Should be rather interesting! :)

Munchkin03 10-24-2004 12:13 AM

1 down, 3 to go! :D

Life is tough in Casa Munch. Here we've got a St. Louis native toughing it out with a once and future New Englander.

With these two offensive juggernauts, I know better.

Game 1 will end up being 120-118

Just remember, every single Red Sox series since the curse started has been decided in the 7th game.

efcheerBB 10-24-2004 12:29 AM

Cardinals in 6

It was definitely a good game tonight. I am looking forward to the rest of the World Series.

mu_agd 10-24-2004 01:35 AM

Sox in 6.

my friend has predicted that as well, and i'm going with her since she said they would reverse sweep the yankees and bellhorn would would come up with a big hit when needed and she was right on both of those count.s

The1calledTKE 10-24-2004 01:48 AM

A note to Manny... please catch the ball the rest of the games. You will do my heart a lot of good.

Thanks,
A greatful Sox fan

ditto...lets not have a repeat of our last appearance at the world series...

GO SOX

P.S. juggernaut... Nice SAT word there bobby...;)

The1calledTKE 10-24-2004 11:41 PM

A good job by Curt again. The man is amazing. How many people would go through all that to pitch and still pitch well too?

KSigkid 10-25-2004 08:31 AM

Solid performance by Curt last night (although one of the Boston sportscasters this morning called it one of the greatest postseason performances ever...not quite sure about that).

Good thing Manny can hit, because he is AWFUL in the outfield.

I'm a massive homer, and i don't even really agree with this - as a whole, his postseason has been lots of things - "heroic" maybe, "ballsy" for sure, etc - but he didn't quite pitch a perfect game. Shit, he didn't even come out of the 'pen and throw 6 perfect innings while injured to keep them in the game. It's a great performance, but I wouldn't rate it as top-5 or anything.

Jesus, the dude catches a spike and tumbles like mary lou . . . it's stunning how people talk about how much "better" in the field he's gotten, it just reminds me of how horrific he's always been. Truly a one-dimensional player, not that I'm complaining.

Anyway - the series will definitely change in the NL park - with the "free out" at the pitcher's spot (you're fooling yourself if you have confidence in the Sox to, y'know, bunt?), the STL pitchers will gain much confidence. Plus, the Cards scored something silly like 4 runs more per game at home. The sox should be playing to win game three no matter what - it's their best chance, assuming petey can dial it up one last time.

Hopefully, Tito Francona pays some semblence of attention to splits vs. recent performance and starts Millar in right - he could use the lefty bat off the pine, plus the Trot (much as I love the dude) hasn't hit his weight.

Actually his lineup will be interesting no matter what - he mentioned that Youkilis is on the 25-man for this series specifically for the NL-park games - think he'll play at 2B if the situation dictates? Does Tito play the Poke to help offset the immeasurably bad d of the Papi? Millar v. Trot: rounds 1-3? Quick hook on Petey, knowing Schilling is done for the series and possibly needing Pedro on short rest? Is this the longest post in the history of the entertainment forum? OK I'm done now, payce.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that the press is really pumping this series up with all the records, first timers, etc? I just spent my lunch break reading some articles on boston.com and its everywhere. The record set for highest number of errors in a World series game, first time a MLB team has made a comeback from 0-3 to win the series, highest scoring world series game with game one, and my favorite: apparently for game 4 there will be a red lunar eclipse and suprise! first World Series game to have a lunar eclipse, the list goes on and on. Either this series is really special or someone's jerking our chains.

The1calledTKE 10-26-2004 11:41 PM

Another great game. Good job Pedro! I am a happy Sox fan.

Munchkin03 10-27-2004 12:06 AM

Life continues to be tough in Casa Munch.

But not for me! I love this!

I'd say that it's a pretty unique series. The fact that the Sox came back from a 3-0 deficit is historic...first time it's ever happened in MLB, and to be against the Yankees made it even more dramatic. The number of errors is significant because, well, who would guess that a team would go up 2-0 while making 8 errors in the first two games? High scoring - it's a sign of the times no doubt, but slugfests such as those are unique in series play.

As for the eclipse thing...something must be going on in the cosmos if the Sox are on the brink of clinching their first World Series title in 86 years.

Pedro pitched a hell of a game last night...and as much as I hate to say it (it makes me ill to say it, in fact), it looks like it's the Sox year.

If you live in Boston... board up your windows and batten down the hatches... 'cause the drunken debauchery in Baahston is gonna be of titanic proportions should the Bosux finally win tonight!

Seriously...this is one of those times I wish I still lived right in the city, and not out in the (relative) burbs. It should get interesting in Kenmore Square tonight should they win. The parties after the Pats won were great, but those were just a warm up for how things would be this time.

I won't get the day off...but I figure most of the city would shut down.

i'm sure it will. i've already checked out the parade schedule if (fingers crossed) they win it, so i know what days to take off of work! it's going to be insane here for the rest of the week.

See, this is where working in a hospital will come back to haunt me...we NEVER shut down.

we won't shut down either. i'll just take the day off.

HBADPi 10-27-2004 02:57 PM

I just found a Boston Irish pub down in Santa Monica Sonny Mclean's ! I want to go so bad tonight but I have class. If I don't make it there at some point during the rest of this series, I'm going to have to go another time and drag BobbyTheDon with me.

Check out the shirts they make! Too cute.

It's so well-known that I'm a Yankees fan that I'd never get away with taking the day off. They'd make me work anyways I think.

docetboy 10-27-2004 08:31 PM

It's so close...Red Sox Nation can feel it. 8 more innings...

goldendelta 10-27-2004 09:53 PM

You know, I can't decide if I'd rather be in Boston or St. Louis right now. Oh well, I have to settle for New York.

GO SOX! Only a few more innings.

Taualumna 10-27-2004 11:40 PM

YAY BOSTON!!! The curse is OVER!

KSigkid 10-27-2004 11:43 PM

Wow...it's pretty warm for a day when hell has frozen over.

Congrats to the Sox and the true Sox fans out there...hopefully the city of Boston doesn't burn to the ground tonight.

The1calledTKE 10-27-2004 11:44 PM

Best day of my life. When I die I can die happy. Red Sox World Series champs! Bye bye 1918 chants and all the curse talk. :D

Jill1228 10-27-2004 11:49 PM

Yeah Baby! I rushed home to watch the rest of the game and am hoarse from screaming!

Ok I got this isht eating grin on my face. I know my dear late Uncle Ralph must have sent some mojo from the grave for his Red Sox

(he died the week before his Patriots went to the Superbowl in 2002...he sent some mojo then too)

docetboy 10-27-2004 11:49 PM

BOSTON WINS THE WORLD SERIES!!!!

Lets not forget the most important part of all this though....

YANKEES SUCK!

AlphaSigOU 10-27-2004 11:50 PM

Check back in July for the Great Boston Baby Boom! ;) Batten down the hatches... there's gonna be a celebration bigger than the Boston Tea Party tonight in Beantown!

Congratulations, Red Sox... you finally won! We'll be back to the traditional enmity between the Bosox and the Yanks next year!

Apparently the Yankees get to watch Boston raise the World Championship banner at Fenway next spring.

phikappapsiman 10-28-2004 12:14 AM

Come home Bill Buckner...all is forgiven!!!:D :D :D :D

Munchkin03 10-28-2004 12:18 AM

I am stunned. Speechless.

polarpi 10-28-2004 12:40 AM

Congratulations to the Red Sox and the Red Sox faithful! :)

(And congrats to Larry Luccino, too! If he couldn't get a championship in San Diego, I'm glad to see he's gotten one in Boston!)
