ADPi songs

Hey all, I'm new to this so here goes. I just recently had a weekend with some of the girls from my pledge class. And of course when we get together we always sing songs, talk about our pledgeship and all the great memories. Well, we were riding in the car and one of the girls says..."What was that song we used to sing during prefs, where we lit the candles and hummed the tune?" Something about pass it on...and...everytime you came or everytime we saw you. Something like that. Can anyone help me out here.? This is driving me and the other girls crazy. Let me know!:cool:

emleepc 10-20-2004 03:55 PM

First of all, welcome to GC! I'm so excited to have a new ADPi here!! Be sure to introduce yourself formally in the ADPi Roll Call Thread.
Secondly, is this the one you are talking about?

Pass It On
It only takes a spark to get a friendship going,
and soon all those around, will warm lup to its glowing,
that's how it is in ADPi, once you've experienced it,
you want to sing, it's fresh like spring,
you want to pass it on.

What a happy house this is when we are all together,
as sisters we exist, we live for one another,
that's how it is in ADPi, once you've experienced it,
you want to sing, the love it brings, you want to pass it on.

I wish for you my friend this happiness that I have found,
you can depend on us, it matters not where you are bound,
I'll shout it from the mountaintop, I've come to ADPi,
it's given me the love you see and now I'll pass it on.

Christi S Dashe 10-20-2004 04:44 PM

Ok, I do remember that one and that was the one some of the girls were thinking of. But, was that the one that we lit the candle to? Was there another one, one that would make everyone, sisters and guests just cry their eyes out? Did you humm this one as they were leaving the house? So many questions... I'd live it all over again if I had the chance. Those were the BEST days.
Thanks and I'll do the roll call

texas*princess 10-20-2004 07:59 PM

Welcome to GC!!!!

When we do candle passings, my chapter of initation sang "Remember your Alpha Delt Girl" and after we sang it, we hummed the tune, and sang it again... here are the words:

Remember your Alpha Delt Girl
Remember when you're away
Remember she's all you've wished for
And true to you she'll always stay
Remember the small black diamond-
With pearls for friendship true
For memories will live forever
It's an Alpha Delt for you

honeychile 10-20-2004 08:11 PM

Why do I have the feeling that the entire ADPi songbook is going to be posted here? ;)

Welcome, Christi! By any chance, was the song the Creed?

polarpi 10-20-2004 09:49 PM

Or maybe was the song Linger? :)

There are SO many songs that could be hummed.....:D

Christi S Dashe 10-20-2004 09:53 PM

Thank you all for the welcome!! Much appreciated. I just can't think of this song. I think "Pass it on" is it. There's just something inside me that makes me think that there was another one we sang. Now, mind you, this was in 84,85 & 86. Long time ago. But, It was such a moving song that I can't imagine that they would not use it. Does anyone remember a song that you lith candles to and hummed the tune after you sang the song? Like I said, I think this one is it, but were there anymore that any chapters sang at Prefs? Let me know. Again, thanks for all you help Pi's. It means alot

Christi S Dashe 10-20-2004 09:54 PM

Do you remember the words to Linger?

honeychile 10-20-2004 10:05 PM

Hmm, hmm I want to linger
Hmm, hmm A little longer
Hmm, hmm I want to linger here with you-u-u.

Hmm, hmm It's such a perfect night
Hmm, hmm It doesn't seem quite right
That this should be our last with you.

(there's more, I thought that would at least jog your memory!)

honeychile 10-20-2004 10:08 PM

Christi Sue (I love that name!), there's a CD of ADPi songs available through the George Washington University chapter (Alpha Pi?). Anyhow, somewhere around here is the address for the CD, if you're interested. I heard songs sung correctly for the first time!

But then again, we were told that the Blessing was sung to the tune of "Here Comes Peter Cottontail"!!

I'm now sitting here trying to sing the blessing to that tune! ;)

Linger is one of my all-time favorite ADPi songs, along with Always :)

Christi S Dashe 10-21-2004 11:15 AM

Now I remember "Linger'. Well, last night I called one of the girls from our little reunion weekend and sang her the song. She started singing it right away. It made her happy!! Anyway, I would love that cd for our next girls weekend. I will do a little searching. You know it's funny how different chapters can sing some songs so differently, but with the same words or visa versa. We should all put up songs we remember just to see how many we can come up with. After this past weekend, I can't stop singing them in my head. When we went to the ADPi house and spoke to some of the Pi's we sang some of our old songs and they cringed. You know how we all have some up our sleeve that may not necessarily be that apprpriate. It was funny! Oh well, thanks all for you help. I'm so... glad I found this website.

After all these years of singing the Blessing the wrong way, it's darn near impossible for me to sing it correctly!

I think it would be fun to have a song thread! A lot of chapters sing the same song slightly differently, and others sing songs that no one else does. Go for it!!

polarpi 10-21-2004 02:41 PM

Let the Song Thread commence....

...from here on out, post your favorite songs, and we'll see which ones may be sung differently, and it'll be a learning experience! :)

Always
Alpha Delta Pi is a sisterhood,
You can trust in it always,
You can have it for a lifetime,
You can have it always.

Always, Always
You can trust in it always,
Always, Always,
You can have it always.

**Then, the round!**
Half the sisters sing the first part, while the other half sings the second part, and then they switch!

My chapter usually sang the round twice (so each group would essentially sing each part once), and then finish singing the song together by repeating the Always, Always part.

Next? :D

Christi S Dashe 10-21-2004 06:17 PM

Well, I've never seen the "Always" song. What's the tune?

Here's one we used to sing on the first day of rush

Oh when an ADPi walks down the street
She's got that 100 per from head to feet
She's got that smile, that style, that winning way
And when you look at her you'll recognize her way

You'll say, now there's a girl I'd like to know
She's got that Alpha Delta pep and go, pep and go
To look at her is sure a treat, hard to beat
An Alpha Delta Pi

Rock'em sock'em go Pi go!;)

I love that song! We never sing it at Beta Tau-- but when my best friend transferred from Epsilon Nu she taught it to us!

purris 10-21-2004 07:29 PM

I love this thread!!

Pass it on and Linger were some of my favorite songs. There was another song I liked that went something like:

Pi Pi ADPi
Like it love it ADPi...

and I can't remember the rest of the words. If anyone knows the rest and can post them it would be great.

Also in my chapter (Eta Beta) we would have Alpha class songs. Each Alpha class would pick a popular song and change the words to fit ADPi. Then they would debut it at Black Diamond Ball for the Delta sisters and sing it again every year at the retreat for the new alphas. It was so much fun! My class (1994) chose 'Two Princes' by the Spin Doctors. Do any other chapters do this?

honeychile 10-21-2004 07:47 PM

Pi, Pi, ADPi!
Like it! Love it!
ADPi!
Want it, need it, gotta repeat it!
I just love my ADPi!

When I was a-growing high
Always wanted ADPi!
Even then I always knew
I'd want to wear the White and Blue!

Pi, Pi, ADPi!
Like it! Love it!
ADPi!
Want it, need it, gotta repeat it!
I just love my ADPi!

~~~~~~~~~~~
White shining stars, upon my Diamond pin
Symbols of the friendship that is held within.
Loyal and true, I pledge my heart to you
Alpha Delts forever, wearing White and Blue.
(Sung in rounds)
Yes - at least, we used to do so! We had a sister who had been on Homecoming Court that year and LOVED Todd Rundgren, so we did our song to "Hello, It's Me" as a tribute (silly girls!!).
My chapter too would do a lot of rewording of pop songs...
As for my favorite song... Umm...
For fun songs I always think of Boom Boom... but that is because when I first joined we sang it a whole lot... at the end of every meeting we would sing... and they would usually ask what people wanted to sing... since there were a bunch of new alphas at the time who were very loud (myself, my roomie, etc) we would always say to sing Boom Boom, because it is the only song we knew...
On the more serious side, other then the ones already mentioned i love white shinning stars...
My chapter, to end Pi, Pi, would spell out:
A-L-P-H-A
D-E-L-T-A
P-I Pi Oh My
Alpha Delta Pi (Whoo!)
And also, with White Shining Stars, our third line would be sung:
Loyal and true, we pledge our love to you
All the little things :)
I can't exactly explain the tune of Always....can you, Andrea???
We sang this, too, but as a separate song. Did y'all have "strings" of songs, that when one ended, everyone knew which would be the next song? We did!
I LOVE "Boom Boom"!!! That's one of my absolute favorite ADPi Recruitment songs.
polarpi 10-23-2004 12:24 AM
I don't think we ever did strings of songs, but while I was spirit chair, Pi Pi was normally the very first song that came out! We didn't realy do Boom Boom with any frequency until I went back as an alumna!
honeychile 10-24-2004 10:20 PM
We also did a song (not during Recruitment) called "I Want You To Know" that's very similar to "Boom Boom". Did anyone else do it?
Christi S Dashe 10-26-2004 09:58 AM
How did it go? Just a few should spark my memory.
Ever heard of Alpha, Alpha, Alpha Alpha Delta Pi,
Like it, love it...will til the day I die
for it's a grand sorority, maybe on earth, but it's heaven to me
Oh Alpha Alpha Alpha Alpha Delta Pi, Scooby doop doop do boop pi doop!!
We sang something very similar to it...
Alpha Alpha Alpha Alpha
Alpha Alpha Delta Pi
Like it, Like it
Love it, Love it
Yes oh me oh my
I'm the member of the best sorority
It may be on earth but it's heaven to me
Singing
Alpha Alpha Alpha Alpha
Alpha Alpha Delta Pi
Think the song you were thinking of was "It only takes a spark" goes like this
"It only takes a spark to get a friendship going,
soon all those around will warm up to its glowing,
......"
ADPiFSU06 07-29-2008 08:52 PM
Hi! I am the music chair for my chapter and we are revamping our pref ceremony- I could really use some suggestions for songs to use at the beginning and end of pref. In the past we have sung "It only takes a spark," but I think we are all ready for something different. Our recruitment chair has recommended "Linger" for the end, and has been told that some chapters use "Follow Me" for the beginning. I have never heard either! Anyway- I would LOVE any suggestions and/or thoughts!
Pi Love!
I'm not sure about Follow Me (could be one we did as a instrumental only), but we did use Linger in our preference ceremony (at least one year, I know). If you've never heard it, it's a little difficult to describe the melody, but I've always liked it :)
If you need some help with words (and perhaps melody, if you don't have the wonderful ADPi music CD), let me know!
Emilyzd 07-30-2008 01:54 PM
These are the words to Follow Me:
Chorus: Follow me where I go what I do and who I know make it part of me to be a part of you follow me up and down all the way and all around take my hand and say you'll follow me.
1st Verse: Its long been on my mind you know it's been a long long time I'll try to find a way that I can make you understand the way I feel about you and just how much I need you to be there where I can take to you when there's no one else around.
2nd Verse: You see I'd like to share my life with you and show you things I've seen places where I'm going to places where I've been to have you there beside me and never feel alone and all the time that you're with me then we will be at home.
khv0105 08-20-2009 09:48 AM
Does anyone know the tune to this song!!!!
I want you to know **
Ba da da da da
I won't partake Chi0**
Ba da da da da
Don't want the Kappa Key
It's Alpha Delta for me.
That's the first verse, but obviously, each chapter had to change the other GLOs to fit their campus.
We sang a version of this - especially during our Roaring Twenties party.
DeltaBetaADPi 08-07-2010 02:26 AM
We're doing one for recruitment that goes:
With an A, with an A, with an A-L-P,
with a P, with a P, with a P-H-A,
With an A-L-P and a P-H-A,
Alpha Delta Pi.
Sing it, sing it, sing it, sing it, sing it to the sky.
Shout it, shout it, shout it, shout it, shout it til you die.
& though the years, the best will always be...
[proceed to repeat the entire song]
ADPirate 03-02-2011 08:07 PM
My chapter changed part of Pi Pi to:
Violets, Diamonds, Lion Pride
Always Wanted ADPi
When I came to old BU
I knew I'd wear that white and blue
During the BU part we'd do a Sic'Em for our Baylor Bears, it was really cute!
We also did songs to Wishin', & Hopin', & Thinkin', & Prayin', Dirty Pop (*NSYNC), Boom Boom Pow (Black Eyed Peas), and This Is Why I'm Hot along with songs from the song book.
Next year we're doing Material Girl and changing the lyrics to Sorority Girl and I think we rewrite the lyrics to We Are Who We Are by Ke$ha
Does anyone else rewrite lyrics to popular songs for recruitment? We're still looking for ideas.
honeychile 03-02-2011 10:01 PM
Yes, but mine would be oldies but goodies! I'd love to hear the Boom Boom Pow one, though!
ADPirate 03-02-2011 10:11 PM
There's a video of it on YouTube ADPi Baylor University Fall Party Songs
Every year at New Member Retreat our New Members divide into equal groups and are challenged to come up with a new chant or song :) It's super fun for the new girls and the actives get to hear all the collarborations. We also vote on the "number one hit" and use it the next year at Homecoming and Greek Week events! :) One of my favorites this past year was to the tune of Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby:"
"Stop! Collaborate and Listen!
ADPi is here with traditions.
Sisters, we look good in Diamonds.
Blue and white, we're fierce like lions.
All the others, they stay way behind us,
'Cause everybody knows we're the first and the finest"
Honestly I dont even know the original words to ice ice baby anymore because we have sang this so much this year :)
