Yankees/Sox

So tonight one of the greatest rivalries in U.S. sports (the greatest in my opinion) starts up again in the ALCS. The trash-talking has begun, it's the best time of the year.

The Sox scare me, but my guess will be Yankees in 6 (how can I bet against my favorite team; I'll always take them over the Sox). I can't wait to see how Boston is when the series comes back to Fenway; I'm going to see if I can get my hands on some tickets (or at least go to one of the bars near Fenway during gametime).

This is what I've been waiting for all year....GO YANKS! (and to think, I live in Boston).

This is the best time of the year, every year that it happens - I can't wait for tonight (well, maybe Schilling's all-time postseason record helps too this season...).

It will be a great series either way, especially when Schill takes it down in game 5 to send the sox to the series.

Of course, crazy shit happens in a sox/yankees series - I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a Miguel Cairo game-winner, or D Minky punching somebody in the face in the first-ever bench clearer in the first inning.

The difference is, this season, BOTH teams have "the fear" - and for good reason. The Sox are dangerous, and the Yanks are . . . well, unfortunately they're still the Yanks. This time though, they'll need 'the Ghosts' b/c for the first time in a long time, they're not clearly the better team on paper.

I wish I was there, particularly when Pedro pitches against his "daddy."

Oh yeah, I think the Yankees will win in six, maybe five. :)

Chuck,

I'm going to redeem myself for my change of allegience in the Red River Shootout and concur with you on this one.

I just want to see the Cards and Yanks go at it in the WS. Basically like 2 All-Star teams going at it.

They coulda saved billions of dollars in construction costs and lots of time on the Big Dig... just drop a W53 thermonuclear bomb over Fenway Park! ;) :) :D :p

(Not to worry, you Yankee fans held hostage in Baahston... we'll quietly give you a head start before the ICBM launches!) :D

*The W-53 was the nuke on the old Titan II ICBM - estimated 9 megatons of city-busting power!

Sung to the tune of YMCA

I doubt Curt will pitch anymore the rest of the season unless he insist he is ok. If his foot hurts him that much he can do more damage to the Sox than help.

smiley21 10-13-2004 06:11 AM

go yankees!!!!!!!! great game last night

KSigkid 10-13-2004 09:13 AM

What a game...Gordon really scared me in the 8th after giving up the triple to Ortiz. Matsui was out of control though - people forget that he had a very good year in the 4 spot for the Yanks.

I would be SHOCKED if Schilling didn't pitch again this series. There's no way they'll keep him from making his next start, bum ankle or not.

Matsui has drilled the sox all season, he hit something ridiculous like .450 off of them this season - nice to see he carried along into the postseason, jesus he was sick last night (he also molests collies).

Schilling will throw again, with the 'light' work plus the drawn-out scheduling he'll have lots of time . . . just means that, hopefully, Pedro's "daddy" comments were psychological warfare and not a sign he wants to play in NY next season - win this one, and we're right back on the homefield.

All in all, a pretty classic game - kudos to Mo for keeping it together. Even this sox douchebag has to be impressed.

Did Pedro really give Mia Hamm his herpes?

I personally don't think Schillings ankle had much to do with him pitching bad last night. How about an encore tonight yankees!

Seeing now they are saying he probably is gone for the season now I would be suprized if it didn't have something to do with it.

Rudey 10-13-2004 11:40 PM

Pedro, who's your daddy?

Who's Your DADDY?!?!?

GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!

I'm such a New Yorker

KSigkid 10-14-2004 09:41 AM

Lieber was awsome last night - he didn't have a great year (his record was misleading), but last night he really answered the call and pitched a good game.

I'm trying not to get too excited though...three games left at Fenway, where the Yankees haven't played well this year. A win Friday night would be huge; biggest game of the season thus far.

ETA: The "Who's Your Daddy" chant is HILARIOUS. One of the funniest things in sports.

smiley21 10-16-2004 10:31 PM

two and a half hours and this game is only in the bottom of the 4th!?

anywho, the yankees are kicking some butt!! it is a pretty close game, but my team now have a huge lead.:D KEEP IT UP YANKEES!!

it is hilarious how the Boston fans get dead silent when the Yankees do something good. maybe they will shut up the whole game!!!

smiley21 10-16-2004 11:29 PM

holy cow!!! :eek:this game has gotten ugly for Boston.
17-6!!!!! in the 7th!!
the Boston fans are ticked off!! it is great!!!:D

KSigkid 10-17-2004 03:05 AM

Best night ever...almost got into fights in two bars over this game. So much fun. I'm so drunk.

GO YANKS!

smiley21 10-17-2004 10:21 AM

that game was incredible!! 19-8!!!!  the best thing about it was that it was on Boston's field! ha!! the look on the fans' faces was priceless!!

Peaches-n-Cream 10-17-2004 11:16 AM

19-8 is a football score not baseball. I really am shocked by it. The game was too long for me so I missed the end.

No. Its now tied 4-4, with runners on the corners, and one out.

You jinxed the Yankees.:p

Thank you cream. No sweep. If you could jinx them the next three games that would be great too. lol

smiley21 10-18-2004 07:09 AM

well i am bummed. there is a bright side. what are the chances that Boston will win 4 in a row? or even 3 or 2 in row? Yankees are too smart for that.

mmcat 10-18-2004 07:53 AM

it makes it much more interesting.
go red sox...go red sox.
