In order of importance, there are only two items on my resume:

1. Being there as my son Andrew was initiated into our Fraternity in November 2003.

2. Everything else.

Tom Earp 10-16-2004 03:16 PM

Keep up the info, it is so interesting to see what others who are still movers and doers in LXA are still doing so after Graduation.

Lynn is a little remiss, I think. We, LX Z were Chartered by the Ritual Team from Drury in 1969 , Theta Sigma, and if not for a small fluke of one year, we would have first met back them instead of 2004 at General Assembly!:)

Just kidding. Welcome Jacob! Good words there. Who did you give the...I mean how do you pronounce your last name?

potterLI901 10-25-2004 08:41 PM

Oh boy, you guys are going to have some fun with this. My last name is pronounced chee-ya as in the "Chia Pet". No my uncle does not own the company that makes them, although that would be pretty cool.

Tom Earp 10-26-2004 08:38 AM

Jacob, welcome to G C!:)

Jono and I met a Brother from Whitewater at Gen. Assembly, Dave Smith I beleive. Barrowed a Coat from me for the Dinner Sat. Night.

Biggest welcome of all is To LXA!:D

ephi1450 10-28-2004 10:38 PM

Hey, Joiner! I wish I would have known you were at UK working...we were looking for a High Pi because Bob Brown had to resign...

Well, now, we have Brian Ayers who graduated not too long ago, we are trying to get him approved, even though it hasn't been two years since he graduated.

Maybe we can use you as our faculty advisor next year, hehe.

JoinerLxa 10-29-2004 11:11 AM

I knew you were looking for a High Pi, but
Bobby McD (a previous EPhi High Pi from Gtown)
told me he was it now/again!

Bobby's been known to "exxagerate" a bit....but I
know his mom has been very sick so maybe he
changed his mind.

Haven't had alot of time to "drop by" the
EPhi house, eventhough I pass it every weekday.
You might suggest a good time for some old
alum from a "foreign" chapter to drop in.

ephi1450 10-29-2004 03:07 PM

Kevin,

A good time to "drop by" would be November 12. I am not quite sure on the exact time yet, as I am in Owensboro tending to family matters. But, I will be there in full stride, for what may be my last big dog appearance, after which I will pass the torch for my most sacred position, just as it was passed to me. I will email you about the times and what not as soon as I find out from my big bro, who is now the High Phi.

My old roomates last name was pronounced the same way, but was spelled 'Chia'. Just like the pet. His dad was Cuban. He said thats where it came from.

My last name, Ciha, is Bohemian. Although the seeds that come with Chia Pets come from the Chia plant which grows in
Central and South America, just FYI.

Hi Jono.

We started as a local founded in 1940, and were installed in 1945.

Tom Earp 11-09-2004 06:20 PM

Chris, does it take longer for Colonies longer in Canada to be Chartered than In USA?;)

Kidding, dont be to serious!:D Damn long time to be around and Congratulations for sure.

Chipster, I can feel for your plight and What You Went throug, ALMOST!

What is nice is that you have a place to come to or a if not many Brothers to come to and find Solace and Help. Am I aware of your situation, yes I am and you know from whom. While I never had the pleasure of meeting you. I feel that I know you as a Brother. Maybe one of these days We can sit with a Flaggin of a Tody of sorts along with Jono and just kick back and BS and have a Great Time!

In ZAX,

Damn Chip. Great essay. Its amazing how the fraternity continues to inspire all of us. Its something indescribable that resides deep within each of us. Its what keeps me involved 12 years after I was initiated. I care more about it and it continues to grow in meaning for me. You did a damn good job of describing it in your essay. Hats off to you bro.

Tom Earp 11-10-2004 05:29 PM

What lifesaver said.

It came home a lot when I was at General Assembly.

Meeting many of the Brothers from GC there, not as strangers but as Brothers bonding as one and meeting for the first time.

Jono of course as I visited BN and He in turn LX.

But then the first day, meeting Mike, Kevin, and Andy in the Alum meeting. Oh, cannot forget Bud one of My Guys who is High Pi at UNLV.

The nightly meets in Jonos and My room with a Few of the Brothers where We just talked and relaxed.

While We were strangers in a sense, We really werent at all. Out smoking with Kevin and some of the other Brothers, there was a feeling of electricity amongst us. The Picture of G C Brothers is near and dear to me and is hady to look at remember us all there.

It matters not that John G. and Jon S. are in Cal. or Matt is in Fl. or Chip is NM or Cooper is in Canada, Andy is in Tx. Kevin is in Ky, ETC! We are all there for each other.

This is what makes me proud to be a LXA!

I'm the current Iota for my zeta which consist of 19 active members. We are located in Montevallo, Alabama at the University of Montevallo.

At the current moment, my major is music education with my instrument being vocal. I may switch that to History in the near future. I was never much of a fraternity person and I never thought I would be. I'm thankful to have known guys in the fraternity that invited me to hang out and to go through rush. I became an Associate Member in September, and a brother on November 19, 2004. I've loved every minute of it, and would not change a thing.

What do these have to do with Lambda Chi Alpha? The answer to that became strikingly clear to me when I recently replaced my Paedagogus. After I began reading through my new copy, it hit me. The quote about taking initiative is just another form of "Kalepa Ta Kala." What my children have taught me, I already knew in "Vir Quesque Vir." The traditions that I learned in church, the principles with which my parents raised me, and the ideals laid forth by Jesus Christ were all right there in Lambda Chi Alpha. These things had been revealed to me in college, but it took more of life's experiences and a re-discovered faith for me to see the true beauty of our fraternity.

Wow. Simply wow.

I'll co-sign onto this thought - LXA and it's Ritual in one perspective is a very powerful witnessing tool - it brought me to Christ as a result of first seeing it.

To bring it full circle, I was recently elected a Deacon for our church, and during the Church Board's interview with me during the search process, I told them my testimony about how a fraternity initiation did it for me. Their perception of ritual is what they see in the news: initiation=hazing. I gave them a new perspective (without revealing specifics, of course).

It's amazing how often sermons touch on parts of the ritual - I wish sometimes I could tell other Church members about that...just so they know the truth about an initiation ritual, not what the media does to their perceptions. It just increases my faith all the time.

My name is Matt. I'm a junior at Hanover College is SE Indiana. I am Theta-Zeta 1251. I served as High Gamma last year and now I'm our High Alpha and I'm getting excited for the Council of Presidents conference next weekend down in Orlando!

Then, at our regional conference in Valpo I'll be completing Impact Leadership level IV. So lots of exciting things for me right now.

Docroc67, what part of SW Ohio are you from? I live there too but go to school just over the border in Indiana.

docroc67 01-25-2005 10:24 AM

Hello, Brother Matt!

Matt,

I live in Eaton, Ohio which is about 16 miles east of Richmond, Indiana. I work in College Corner, Ohio and I am the School Superintendent. Our school district is very unique because it is operated by both Indiana and Ohio! As a matter of fact, our school building sits right on the state line. You can actually make a basket in a game in Indiana and then Ohio because the state line runs right through the middle of the gym! It is a special place.

When our oldest daughter was searching out colleges we visited Hanover College. We were all impressed with the campus and I got a chance to wander through the Lambda Chi House. She eventually followed our path and went to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Thanks for the question.

Yours in ZAX,

Mike Raymond, ZU-Z

TZchopper 01-25-2005 02:11 PM

I live in Harrison, OH, which is west of Cincinnati, and also right on the border. The state line runs through our back yard.

I looked at Miami U when I was searching for colleges, but eventually decided on the smaller, more personal, atmosphere at Hanover.
