HEY HEY HEY!! It's Fat Albert!!

Hi Sorors, SFs, and BFs,
This morning I encountered the following news: FAT ALBERT to be made for the big screen!! I was and still am very excited. Here is a link for an article about the upcoming project: http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/bpihw/2...ert_pic_1.html

I think it is great that some of the popular shows and cartoons are being returned to our presence one more time.

Are there any others that you would like to see, be it cartoon, TV show, etc?

I wonder will they all have fresh aces for the characters or just go with those already established in Hollywood. I can't wait to see who plays Russell and Mushmouth.

I think that for the most part they should go with both. It will be great to see new talent as well as some of Hollywood's favorites. I am trying to find a Fat Albert website. As one of my co workers said this will push the prices of PLATINUM FUBU sky high!!!

If you are looking for a Fat Albert website, go to www.tvparty.com and click on Saturday Morning cartoons. You will find a section devoted to Fat Albert, and even breaks it down by season (1972-78) and the topics they address. It should include a soundbite for the theme song.

I heard about this yesterday!

NOW, who are they going to cast as Fat Albert? The Cosby Kids?

A sister can't wait!

sorry to barge in, but i just had to post here. I used to watch Fat Albert as a kid, in the early 80's along with Picture Pages. I had the workbook and pen from the show. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Anyway, I was watching Saturday Night Live a while back, and they had a skit about Fat Albert, starring Tracy Morgan as Fat Albert. They had someone as Mushmouth, Tim Meadows I think, but I'm not sure. I didn't catch the whole thing, but it was hilarious. They talked about Albert having his first heart attack at 13...

Mess http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif!! Thanks, though!! I have seen people with Fat Albert characters on their clothes but I didn't know it was FUBU!! My brothers wear it but I'm not into "trendy" brands. It's so sad that these kids (including my brothers) will spend that much for those clothes and I guarantee they have no idea what Fat Albert is.

I totally agree 90% of my students are only wearing it because it is Fubu. Just like about 8 years ago when X hats, shirts, etc. were popular, there were a lot of people wearing it but had no concept of Malcolm X, his ideology and what he did for our race.

My brother is 22 so he does remember but there are a lot of kids who wear something purely for fashion and name value.

WhiteCoKlate 03-01-2001 12:39 PM

speaking of fat a, am i the only one sick and tired of seeing him EVERYWHERE...like pl. fubu?

Yes, there's bad news for fans of Fat Albert--preproduction on the live-action version of Bill Cosby's beloved 'toon has been halted thanks to that age-old Tinseltown bugaboo otherwise known as "creative differences."

In this case, it was the Cos versus the film's director, Forest Whitaker.

Cosby--who created the original 'toon, wrote the script for the Fat Albert movie with partner Charles Kipps and is executive producing the movie with his wife, Camille--apparently took issue with Whitaker's vision for the characters, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

As a result, both men mutually agreed to nix shooting, which was slated to start later this month, and Whitaker has exited the 20th Century Fox film.

"[Whitaker] and Bill truly had creative differences in the way they see the movie going--it's just about directionally seeing the movie differently," Fox spokesman Jeffrey Godsick tells the Hollywood Reporter. "It's an amicable departure, and, at this point, it's just been put on hiatus."

Godsick also tells the trade paper that the Cos and his producing partners at Davis Entertainment (where the project is set up) are now searching for a new helmer.

Publicists for Whitaker and Cosby were unavailable for comment. However, Whitaker's agent at CAA confirmed he's off the project.

Fox had planned for Fat Albert to be a "tent-pole" release--aka a would-be blockbuster. The studio had initially slated the film for a summer 2003 premiere but pushed it up to this Christmas. Now, with Whitaker's departure and the production on hiatus, it appears unlikely the film will be ready that soon.

When or if the film launches, it will mark Cosby's first as a feature-film screenwriter (he did have a story credit on Leonard Part 6, but we think he'd agree that doesn't count).

Per the Cos' vision, the movie seeks to translate Fat Albert and his Junkyard Gang by having them spring from their animated world into a contemporary urban setting and raise the kind of mayhem reminiscent of those old-time Hollywood kid flicks like The Little Rascals. After a nationwide talent search, newcomer Omar Benson Miller was recently tapped to play the titular character.

In a recent interview with the film-fan magazine Cinescape, Whitaker said the characters "come out of a television screen" to help a little girl. He said the film is "about loving yourself and being able to accept yourself, self esteem and stuff like that."

Whitaker also said the film was to have "about 10 minutes of animations [and] a lot of visual effects...The style that I'm kind of creating for it is a very magical environment."

Since making his acting debut in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Whitaker has distinguished himself not only as an acclaimed actor in such movies as Good Morning Vietnam, Bird, The Crying Game, Smoke and the just-released thriller Panic Room, but also as a director of Waiting to Exhale and Hope Floats.

'Greek Wedding' Director Adding 'Fat' to His Diet
45 minutes ago Add Entertainment - Reuters to My Yahoo!

By Zorianna Kit and Chris Gardner

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" director Joel Zwick is in talks to take the helm of "Fat Albert," a live-action feature based on Bill Cosby (news)'s famed '70s TV cartoon.

The 20th Century Fox project follows Fat Albert and his posse, who come to life when they walk out of the cartoon and into the real world (news - Y! TV).

Cosby and Charles Kipps wrote the original draft of the screenplay, which is inspired by Cosby's long-running CBS cartoon "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids." Cosby will also serve as a producer.

Zwick's arrival comes just more than a year after preproduction on "Albert" began, originally with Forest Whitaker (news) directing and Omar Benson Miller starring in the title role. However, the project came to an abrupt halt in April over a conflict of visions between Cosby and Whitaker. At this point, no actors are on board.

I have mixed feelings about this. I think that it should remain a cartoon. It's timeless. I don't know if a live-action movie will do it justice....

enlightenment06 06-30-2003 08:51 AM

I DEFINITELY think it should remain a cartoon. I think when works are turned into movies they shouldn't be completely jacked up just because it's a different medium (see "Spawn"- wait, no, don't see it, just take my word for it :p )

I cannot believe that she is almost 18. I am so glad they did not give the part to Raven Symone. B2K fans will be at the movie to see Omarion.

You know what though, this movie will have a fantastic soundtrack. It should.

I didn't even think about a soundtrack. It should be off da hook!!!!

Although I like Raven Symone (she was cute as Olivia), for some reason I have more of a liking for Kyla. I think that Raven can be a little extra at times, I dunno. Sometimes I wanna say, "Pump your breaks a little bit girl!!!".

The Fat ALbert characters remain the same but go to the movie's site and it tells you the plot. Basically the Fat Albert kids leave their time and come to our time.
