Can this thread be deleted, or at least locked, until definitive word has been released?

I don't consider Drudge the best newsperson.

Would you rather have Dan Rather and the CBS spoof team?

Sister Havana 10-11-2004 01:39 AM

Apparently it's been reported on CNN and ABC News, and there's a banner on the Foxnews.com home page.

It was announced on local news teasers as well pretty soon after the time docet had posted the message, so I think it's time for us to mourn the loss of a great person of our society.

My condolences go out to his family during this difficult time.

Story is now verified.
You heard it first from the DRUDGE REPORT.

1952-2004. Rest in Peace, Christopher. A nation mourns your passing.

it has been reported on local and national news.....so unless CNN is not definitive enough it will most likely stand.

Terrible :(

tinydancer 10-11-2004 08:47 AM

:( A terrible loss. He was such a courageous man.

Did anyone see "Noises Off"? He did a good job with a comedy role - very different from the Superman movies.

We just watched that about 2 weekends ago. Very funny!

I was waiting for CNN or Yahoo!--as much as Drudge is entertaining, I usually go for news sources that focus on straight news and not political commentary. In light of recent events in my life, I'm very wary of "news" being spread on the internet through any of Rupert Murdoch's channels.

"Sorry."

How terrible. And he was so young. My thoughts go out to his family.

OMG!!!!

When I first read this I thought it was a joke.

It's amazing how I can cry over someone I have never personally met but a person who had such a great strength of character.

My heart and prayers go out to his family, friends and everyone else who is feeling this loss.

Brianna

I found this information online and I thought I would share it with you all.

Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation Mourns the Death of its Chairman Christopher Reeve
October 11, 2004

Kathy Lewis, President and CEO of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation (CRPF) issued the following statement today in response to the death of CRPF’s Chairman, Christopher Reeve.

(Springfield, NJ) – “On behalf of the entire Board of Directors and staff of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, we are deeply saddened and shocked by the sudden death of our Chairman, Christopher Reeve,” said Lewis.

Mr. Reeve passed away yesterday of heart failure. He was 52 years old. Mr. Reeve fell into a coma after going into cardiac arrest while at home. Reeve was being treated for a pressure wound that he developed, a common complication for people living with paralysis. In the past week, the wound had become severely infected, resulting in a serious systemic infection.

Mr. Reeve’s death was not a direct result of his spinal cord injury, but an example of how secondary complications can have fatal consequences for people living with paralysis.

“Christopher was a hero to many people, yet he always said it was the ordinary people living with disability who were truly extraordinary” said Lewis. “His memory will serve as inspiration for the work of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation and we will continue in his honor to be steadfast in our goal of finding treatments and cures for paralysis.”

“The Foundation extends condolences to the entire Reeve Family. Our thoughts are with all those who mourn in the passing of our Chairman. He will be missed for his life, his work, his passion and his ceaseless courage in the face of adversity that brought hope to millions around the world,” added Lewis.

For those who care to do so, the family has requested that donations be made in his honor to the Foundation. Cards may be sent to the family in care of the Foundation at 500 Morris Avenue, Springfield, New Jersey 07081.

This is very sad news.

About four years ago, I heard him address a group in real life. He spoke about living in the moment. It was very moving. Christopher Reeve had given us so much through his acting and will continue to do so through his foundation.

AChiOAlumna 10-11-2004 11:41 AM

His obituary was in the Los Angeles Times this morning...he was such an inspiration in spite of his tragic accident...

honeychile 10-11-2004 12:07 PM

I posted this on another thread, but... As someone in geriatrics, I'm appalled that a nurse (or aide) allowed a bed sore to get infected, let alone infected enough to actually kill someone! There is absolutely no excuse for this to happen!

I'm sorry, but I have a lot of anger towards this happening!

Wow! I heard it was a heart attack! I didn't read anything about bedsores...if that is the case, then you are right...it is unacceptable.

Same here! i found out late that night( Sunday) as i was on here and saw this thread so i went to drudge and was sooo completely shocked and so sadden by it that it was true. I turned on the news and what was to be officially reported the next morning was announced and couldn't believe it.

I cried when i read it ,,,,he truly was an inspiration for many. I still cant get over it and still somewhat shocked by it...i really thought i was going to see him walk.

I agree with honeychile how could a nurse or aide let a bed sore get to the point of a serious infection causing this to happen.

I feel so bad for Dana because she has been in Calif for the last 2 months in a play and got a call in her dressing room to get home now something is very wrong.

God bless him and god bless his family. my thoughts and prayers are with them in this sad sad time.
