Soror,
I heard it this morning on the Tom Joyner show. This is indeed sad and shocking for a man of his caliber and reputation to be caught up like this. I feel very sad for his wife and children. To have to go through this. Ironically she was conceived a month before the Monica Lewinsky/President Clinton scandal. I am not judging Jesse because we all have sinned and done things that we should not be proud of but this here will cast scorn on Jesse from numerous directions. HOLD UP!!! I just read your article, $10,000 a MONTH for CHILD SUPPORT!!! Good Lawd, I am really feeling bad for his wife and kids. Can you imagine. There were rumors that Malcolm and MLK were unfaithful to their wives but Jesse has given concrete proof to his infidelity. I NEVER would have suspected Jesse at all. ------------------ Black is a mystery, and part of my history. Black is bold and worth a hell of a lot more than gold. Sorors, you said the exact words, we all have sinned a fell short of the glory. Yes people will scorn him, but just last night during Bible study, I always heard this, but I actually read that we are not justified or found righteous by our actions, but by what we "believe". That could be found in Romans 4, as it refers to Abraham being justified by GOD because he believed his word.
I sad for the family, but through Christ this a mild stepping stone and if they endure everything will work out. |
Sorors, have you read the 'related' articles to this one...really intersting!?

Why Jesse????
The Republicans are going to beat us in the head with this...
Reverend Jesse Jackson is 59 years old with 5 children, the woman who he has a child with is 39 and a scholar. i want to know what was on their minds, when they decided to have this affair? any thoughts soror and friends. http://nydailynews.com/today/News_an...et/a-96357.asp MaMaBuddha ______________ Imaginer un métro rempli avec les anges tombés.. |
After having a day to digest the newest "scandal in America" and after talking to Ideal08 and a couple of HER SORORS http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif (JUST JOKING) last night, I have reached my resting conclusion. This morning on the radio, the morning DJ read a comment by some man on the street who called Jesse a hypocrite. That statement lead me to my resting conclusion: Jesse, like all of us, is HUMAN. That's it!! Before he was a minister, he was human. After he is a minister, he is still human. Why should I lose sleep and lose time talking about another human? Our disappointment, shock, and disgust (or whatever emotion you felt) came from the part of us that believes that since he is a minister he is without sin and that he is held in a higher regard morally than the rest of us. The only man to have ever walked this Earth who was without sin was Jesus and even he was tempted. We have all erred and done things that some might call us a hypocrite for.

While I too am disappointed, I cannot condemn him for what he did, but hope that it will make him a better man. A mistake can be forgiven if one ask the father for forgivness with all his heart. We should be afraid to judge because we as mortal beings are not perfect and can only do our best to live up to gods stadards.

i am not one to condemn brother man afterall -he is human he is somebody, but all i want to know is at what point did he realize what he was doing. being 59 years old with grown children and a wife of 38 years also being being a preacher of the word.
we all have our faults and things like this go on in the world everyday, and i was lurking in other forums on his status as a role model. do you think it will be lost on the young people of today? MaMaB [This message has been edited by MaMaBuddha (edited January 19, 2001).] |

For those who have fathers who have other children, they will be able to relate to the Jackson children. However, some might wonder what makes these kids more special than them. I think our normal everyday children experience more pain as a result because they might have not the resources, financially and emotionally, that Jesse's 2 year old does. Truthfully, there are a lot of "baby's mamas" out here and these "babies" who will be able to relate to Jesse, his baby's mama. his wife and all of the kids. ------------------ Black is a mystery, and part of my history. I have mixed feelings about this. On one side, I'm thinking it nobody's business, but then Jesse told the world, so then it becomes our business in a way.
Even though he is a Reverend, he is still human and subject to all of the flaws and temptations in this world. I'm glad to see that he's admitted to fathering this child. BUT... we don't know what kind of home life the Jackson's have. They could be living in separate ends of the house. We all know of a couple or two that fronts like everything is lovey dovey, but behind closed doors, all h*ll is breaking loose. Now I do wonder what kind is message will be sent out. Adultery, unprotected sex, lust, trust, honesty, etc. Will this be viewed as acceptable by the people? Now, I have to get on the sista. She knew he was married. Did she want to get pregnant? Or better yet, catch a disease? If he is pushing up on her, then there is no telling how many other women he's been with. I think this situation will open a flood gate of Jessie baby mamas (remember Clinton, it took one woman and then everybody had a claim)especially when everybody knows she gets $10,000 a month in child support! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif |
As I've posted elsewhere, while no one's perfect, there is something called honesty and integrity. He not only made sacred vows to God to "forsake all others", I'm sure he also made vows to God upon accepting his call to the ministry. Besides, if he was that unhappy in his marriage, then you leave before it gets to this point. No one can ever be too angry with someone who tells the truth from the beginning and before too much damage is done. Of course we all make mistakes, but at what point do we accept responsibility and stop using the "we're only human" excuse. Sometimes people make mistakes not really realizing what the consequences could be. But I think we all know the possible consequences of having sex (babies, diseases), lying (loss of trust), and extra-marrital affairs (family destruction, further dents into the institution of marriage).
To agree with c&c1913, the woman knew what she was doing as well. And she is just as wrong for that. And not that it's our business, but had the National Enquirer not mentioned that this was going to hit the stands, I doubt we'd know about this baby today. After all the baby is 20 months old. |
As an Omega, let me state that I am EXTREMELY disappointed in my Frat Brother. Although Jesse is just a man, we don't expect GREAT men to make the mistakes of lesser souls. As I have gotten older, I have agreed with Jesse less and less and sometimes I wish that he would be more selective in picking and choosing his fights, but he is still my man. I have personal knowledge of Jesse and he was one of my inspirations in seeking Omega. I met him during both of his campaigns and was a student coordinator for his presidential campaign. My chapter acted as his escort and bodyguards when he came to our campus to campaign and speak. He regaled us with tales of his undergraduate days and his love of our Fraternity. I met him again in 1997, ironically, with this woman whom he has the child with. He was working on his Wall Street Project. Again, I along with two other Omegas spent time with him in his hospitality suite with Al Sharpton. Jesse was relaxed, throwin' up the hooks, barking, just being real. Him and Al were cracking jokes on each other. This hurts because it hurts our community. Like it or not, Jesse got things done. The power structure may not have feared him, but they respected him and did not want to get on his bad side. Corporate America always feared his economic boycotts and ability to shame them. Now he has compromised that moral authority. His individual poor judgement has effected us collectively. I won't judge his behavior because I know his marriage has been one of convenience for the longest time. His wife knows he's been tipping and his family has known of the child before it was born. It was not a shock to them. I am just sad for what it means for all of us who will be losing his powerful advocacy in the face of the Bushes, Ashcrofts, Connerly's, and biased corporations of these United States.

I could care less, because Jesse doesn't spark any interet or respect in me. He's a man, period, and a minister, and we know men and ministers cheat. Not saying they all do, but who is really surprised? Come on, now.
And MLK's infidelity was documented. El Hajj's I know nothing about, but once again, would we be surprised? Something about men with power...and to a quieter extent, women. ------------------ @~~^~~~~ The most beautiful thing in the world is, precisely, the conjunction of learning and inspiration. -- Wanda Landowska |

I was listening to the radio this morning and they said that the National Enquirer has found another woman whom he had an affair with. She's 31 and divorced. The Enquirer offered the ex-husband $25,000 to talk, but he declined. (at least for now! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif)

Blacks Protest 'Shakedown Artist' Jesse Jackson
Marc Morano, CNSNews.com Tuesday, June 24, 2003 CHICAGO – A group of African-American protesters gathered outside the Sheraton hotel downtown Monday to protest Jesse Jackson during his 32nd annual Rainbow/PUSH conference. Protester Willie Ellis said he wanted to tell America, "Open your eyes: Jesse Jackson is for Jesse Jackson and Jesse Jackson only. "He stole from the people long enough. It's time the people know the true man Jesse Jackson is. He has rode on black peoples' coattails long enough," Ellis told CNSNews.com. The group of 25 protesters said they were members of the Chicago chapter of Amer-I-Can Program, a California-based self-esteem-building organization that operates in inner cites and prisons. The group was founded in 1988 by NFL Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown. The protesters held signs reading "IRS Do Your Job: Investigate Jesse's Family"; "Jesse if you want to be a leader go and get yourself elected"; and "Jesse: With leaders like you who needs enemies?" Protester Harold Davis said Jackson "is a shakedown artist, and nobody holds him accountable." Davis does not see Jackson as a legitimate heir to the civil rights movement. "I look at him like a civil rights failure. If Martin Luther King laid down the blueprint, why has [Jackson] done everything to oppose Martin Luther King?" Davis asked. Jackson is "worth $40 million dollars ... and Martin Luther King died broke." Jackson ignores the needs of his hometown of Chicago, Davis said. "In Chicago, the kids' reading scores were the worst in 13 years; [Jackson] ain't opened his mouth. Why? Because he don't fight in his backyard when he sees a reason to go fight somewhere else," Davis said. Davis said he was discouraged with more than just Jackson. [Chicago] has the two organizations that black folks deal with, [Louis Farrakhan's] Nation of Islam and Jesse Jackson, and we got Oprah here, and we can't get nothing done," Davis explained. "What does that say about the rest of the country?" he asked. Stanley Love said he believed that Jackson misappropriates money. "We want him to focus more on the community as a whole and get his priorities together instead of showboating and having fun and ... wasting money on conventions like this," Love explained. Ron Cady said he was at the anti-Jackson rally to "let the people be aware of Jackson and his downfalls ... he's lost focus." Jackson's Reaction When CNSNews.com asked Jackson for his reaction to the protesters, he paused and said, "I don't know anything about it." He abruptly ended the interview and walked away. Davis, however, claims someone from Rainbow/PUSH was aware of the protest and accused Jackson's organization of calling the police to disrupt their rally. "They called the police on us three times. [Jackson] protested for 40 years; nobody ever did that to him," an angry Davis charged. This was not the first time Jackson's organization has called the police on anti-Jackson protesters, according to Davis. "I was in New York City protesting his Wall Street [Project] meeting and [Jackson] called the Secret Service, called the detectives. Four different agents came in the restaurant to get us - police, two sergeants, three squad cars," Davis said. But Jackson's spokeswoman Keiana Peyton denies that Rainbow/PUSH called the police to disrupt Monday's protesters. "We did not call the police; that is absolutely false," Peyton said. "The hotel does have their procedures and processes for dealing with possible security risks or protesters, and that was the protocol which was happening today," she said. Peyton said protests such as the one Monday were not surprising. "We realize that freedom of speech also opens the door for voices that oppose some of the issues and some of our postures, and that is their right to do so. There was nothing out of the ordinary that was done today," she said. Copyright CNSNews.com |
