My son asked for the N Sync CD. I was not really feeling them but now I can't get enough of #5 on the No STrings ATtached CD. Makes Me Ill, I think is the song. ANyways, they are okay. I only wish there were some young Black groups out now that our kids could relate to, be proud of and grow to love.
Remember, like New Edition. Those groups are PUMPED UP on Nickelodeon ALL DAY LONG. SO the youth get to like them and WANT to listen to their music. Prob. is, the groups are all white. No was is Lil Bow Wow gonna be showcased on that station, all though most of his stuff is relatively CLEAN. However, he is still talking about bling blingin' and I really don't want my son to listen to that. It's tough. I know I took this on another level, so I will go. |
Did y'all know that the guy who chorographed that dance number that they do for the song Bye Bye Bye is by the guy who plays Lem on the Showtime series Soul Food.
I like N'Sync too. ------------------ Peace KL |

ALMOST 90% OR MORE OF THOSE "BLACK" FACE GROUPS (AS COMEDIAN PAUL MOODY PUTS IT...) ARE CHOREOGRAPHED BY BLACKS. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif Even the music, nine times out of 10 is produced by blacks... Like someone else said, where are the black groups like New Edition and The Boys (Dial My Heart, whew! where are THEY NOW?) for the NEW MILLENNIUMNUM? lol |
I don't know if anyone knew this, but Full Force (remember them? Their "phrase" was "FULL FORCE GET BUSY ONE TIME!" http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif) have produced songs for Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys and (my fav boy band)*NSYNC. It is true that African-American influence is all over the pop music these days. Look at the group Dream (the ones that Puffy put on his label)-is that African-American influence in the pop culture or what? To my knowledge, he has produced all of the tracks on their CD.
And yes-I lube (love) New Edition. "Candy Girl" and "Popcorn Love" were my jams!! ------------------ "Mind ya own, stay true to ya own, be ya own." Peace and God Bless Classy_Diva5 [This message has been edited by Classy_Diva5 (edited January 29, 2001).] |
I HEAR YOU DELTABRAT!!! That's what I try to explain to my friends when they ask me why I like them. There are no black groups out there doing what they do and I just don't relate to rap. Kandi Buruss from Xscape wrote It Makes Me ILL on their album.
Yeah a lot of the people behind them are black, like their manager Johnny Wright and the guy who choreographed the Bye Bye Bye video. I also think Justin Timberlake is the FOINEST white boy alive!! |

It has been brought up how there are no black mega groups anymore i.e New Edition. One reason for that is while white groups throw sexuality out there as a part of there whole act, black groups these days seem to build there whole image around sex. Except for 112, although they did go there on "Anywhere". New Edition wasn't Jodeci but they also wasn't so cookie cutter. As they got older they addressed more adult issue. Still they did this with class and maturity. Why is it that all music nowadays is so sexual? I think this is partly due to the merger of hip hop and r&b. I still listen to it, but I'm so sick of all the time hearing about no good men, gold diggin hoochies, and going to the club friday night drinking cristal while wearing Gucci, Prada, or whatever. I was like fine, it's okay if Biggie Smalls (May he RIP) talks about that kind of stuff. But when it started making it's way into r&b, "It made me Ill" (pun intended). So that's why I don't think we have a lot of more popular mainstream acts. Oh and another thing to think about, a lot of blacks complain about whites who dance like us (What does that mean?) or work with black producer. And I've also heard us complain about the white formula: 5 white guys from Orlando,FL=Success. Well think about all this influx of black male groups. They are just as formulated as Nsync or the BackStreet Boys. Some white guy or brothers also (we now are owning are own record companies) are telling us how to dress and what kind of songs to sing. I'm so sick of that. That's why I've totally dissed that whole genre and now "Who is Jill Scott", and "Mama's Gun" get heavy rotation in my Cd player. Sorry for the long post.

Greetings,
I hope you guys do not mind me expressing my thoughts on NSYNC. I do have the CD and I get my jam on. My favorite songs are It Makes Me Ill and Space Cowboy. I have a seven year old and we have to keep it locked on that CD. This is just my personal opionion, but I would prefer him listen to NSYNC than Lil Bow Wow. |
afternoon ladies!!!!
I decided to come out the dark about my love for NSync on another black greek chat site a few months ago, and us nsync fans are not alone! I agree #5 is the isht! I will bump that song with all the windows down in El Negro (that's my truck) and wont care! (mind you i live in inglewood, so nsync is not quite the kinda music that's bumped in my area!) And the last song (i never know song titles, just the number) is a pretty love song. *btw-backstreet boys sucked at the super bowl!* ------------------ http://members.nbci.com/Paragon1922/epbimages/only.gif [This message has been edited by prettypoodle6 (edited January 30, 2001).] |
I am SOOOO glad to hear that I'm not the only black N Sync fan. I had the pleasure of going to their concert in Lexington, Ky and it was INCREDIBLE!!!! I love these guys SO much and I just wish other people would open their minds a little bit.

Hi Ladies,
Hope ya'll don't mind me posting, but when I saw "N Sync", I had to reply! I LOVE them! And I have to agree w/ the sista that said Justin is a foine white boy! My friend bought me their CD and I've been bumping ever since. I do wish that there more black boy groups that talked about love and all that good stuff that makes your heart turn to mush. I mean Boyz II Men is still around (although I heard their lastest CD isn't all that great) and I love 112 and Jagged Edge. But there's just something about N Sync's sound that I prefer. Their music is fun and danceable (if that's a word). It's not all focused on sexing someone up and down and all that. I don't mind hearing that stuff, but I get sick of listening to it all the time! So I gladly rock my N Sync in the car and at home! I love them boys! Did anyone hear their DJ Clue remix of "It's gonna be me"? It's tight! I got my copy from Napster. peace all ------------------ A Radiant Lady of Zeta Sigma Chi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. "Diversity: Often perpetrated, never initiated" |

New Edition and Aerosmith Go BOSTON!!!! ( I just had to co-sign on that) But anyways..back to the post... I am an avid *NSync fan and i get really up set when people try to bash them because they have been so successful. What people seem to forget is that those guys really can blow. I mean they can sing, harmonize, do it at the drop of a hat, and hold some sweet-ass notes. Take any of these new R&B groups and ask them do drop it acapella style and you will be disappointed. Has anyone peeped Soul Train? Don Cornelius isn't even chancing it, everyone lip-syncs! And when you see these groups on Apollo or in concert or on television singing live, you are disappointed. There will never be another group like the bruthas from Orchard Park (NE) and groups like NSync will keep winning because even beyond all of the packaging, they can really sing. I am so glad that I am not alone!!! I LOVE N*Sync (especially Justin--representing Memphis!!!) and many other white artists like Christina Aguilera, Limp Bizkit, and (sometimes) Britney Spears. I have their CDs and bump them at least once a week, usually while cleaning on the weekends. I like to dance, and some of their music is better than the usual "bump-n-grind" of some black artists. Some of my friends tease me, but I don't care. BET isn't the only music channel that I can watch. The concept and setup of TRL is WAAAAAYYYY better than 106 and Park. Now don't get me wrong, I love my Jay-Z, R. Kelly, Memphis Bleek, Carl Thomas, Outkast, Joe, etc...., but I like a little variety.

I watched the half-time show and thought N Sync was cute... I actually like Lance the best. It was cool seeing Mary and Steve Tyler on the same stage.
Someone mentioned that they are tired of all the Bling-Bligin' that dominates our music right now. I have to agree, especially with songs like "Project Chick" on the airwaves. Someone else mentioned that they do not want their son listening to that music and I have to agree again. In fact, I get a bit upset when folks clown Will Smith as a rapper. I remember him saying that he *had* to go back into the studio again because there was nothing positive, fun nor clean for his son and other children to listen to. As a mother, I can respect that. |
I personnally love N'Sync thier dance moves are hot. I am kind of mad at Justin Timberlake for cutting his little white boy afro off.
Some say that his pubilcist said to cut it off because they didn't like his hairstyle being called an afro. |
