Ray (Ray Charles Movie) ~ 10.29.04

I saw the preview last night on UPN; definitely a must see

http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&cf...406395&intl=us

There is a trailer that you can view.

DigitalAngel126 10-05-2004 11:54 AM

Also can't wait to see this one.

I, too, saw this on UPN last night. I wonder if he will get an Oscar nomination for this. The preview looked REALLY good!!! I can't wait to see it.

Too bad it won't be out when you come see; we could do a double feature.

When I found out initially that Jamie Foxx would be taking on this role I thought whaa----?

After looking at the trailer I'm very impressed at the physical resemblance to Mr. Charles and how Jamie managed to capture his (Charles) mannerisms.

I will definitely go to see this movie. :)

Conskeeted7 10-17-2004 04:21 PM

Jamie Foxx will be on Oprah next week. I believe it will be the day his movie is released.

Has anyone seen an advance screening yet? I know they had one last weekend here.

Just checked Oprah.com, he will be on this Tuesday, October 19th.

jojapeach 10-18-2004 12:02 AM

I've seen the trailer all over television this weekend, and I'm looking forward to it. It's wonderful to see how far Jamie Foxx has come from doing Wanda to being a great actor who is taken seriously beyond comedic roles.

lostnfound117 10-19-2004 12:14 AM

I hear he's gonna have Oscar contention for this one :)

kiml122 10-19-2004 10:42 AM

When I first heard that Jamie Foxx was going to play Ray Charles...I was like no way as well, but after seeing the previews for this movie. I can't wait to see it. I mean he really has Ray Charles down pat. This movie looks like it is going to excellent.

Gina1201 10-19-2004 11:37 PM

Did anyone watch? I'm made that Oprah didn't give him a half hour. I guess if you take the regular show and add on the time from Oprah After the Show it adds up. I did not know that Jamie had a crush on Oprah. Keenan just blew his spot up BIG time. Stedman, you better watch your back. I can't wait to see the movie. Did anyone else know that his eyes were glued shut? Or that he lost like 30 lbs. for the role? I liked his impersonations as well. I'm wondering if that routine that his trainer talked about really works.

AngelicWings21 10-20-2004 12:08 AM

I see the trailers everyday for this movie....
and am I mos def going to be in theater to see this one...
looks like its going to be fantastic film...

kiml122 10-29-2004 08:24 AM

Ok, I saw the premier yesterday of this movie, and all I can say is you betta go see.....it is absolutely D-Y-N-O-M-I-T-E as JJ Evans would say.

Our Pan-Hellenic council has bought out a Saturday matinee showing at a local theatre here as a fundraiser; w/ a mixer to follow. All Ohio Greeks are welcome to attend; PM me for details.

...non-Ohio Greeks as well as non-alligned also are welcome, as Ray was not discriminatory. :)

kappaloo 10-29-2004 08:59 AM

I'm going to see Ray this weekend! I love biography movies when they're done well so I'm super excited about Ray because it looks really really good.

They're already talking about Oscar nominations for Jamie Foxx and if the movie is half as good as the previews I totally agree.

Hey Tony...that's a nice fundraiser, and you will not be disappointed

Check this out:
I went to see Ray on friday and about 3/4 of the way through the movie the lights come on. The security guard and an usher proceed to announce that there has been a "small fire" and the fire department wants us to evacuate! You know I was so  . I was thinking about rescending my vote to increase minimum wage- how do you mess up making popcorn or warming nachos? :p

The movie was so good. Now I have to go back and sit through the entire thing again just to see the ending.

CrimsonTide4 10-31-2004 04:58 PM

Ray came in #2 at the box office this weekend:

ETA: I will check it out next Sunday after church.

TheEpitome1920 10-31-2004 05:55 PM

I went to see it Friday afternoon (wanted to beat the rush) and really enjoyed it! The music is great, Jamie did a good job as well as Regina King and Kerry Washington. I'm surprised it only came in 2nd place but nevertheless a good movie.

Proverbs31 10-31-2004 07:16 PM

I saw it last night. I think Jamie Foxx did such a good job!

Sistermadly 10-31-2004 11:45 PM

I saw it last night, too. It was a good movie in that it kind of... made Ray seem like a real man, flaws and all, rather than just an untouchable icon. Jamie Foxx was amazing - sometimes I felt like I was watching a documentary instead of a movie.

One thing: the movie is L-O-N-G, so you might want to think twice about drinking that extra-large diet Coke while you watch it! ;)

smlwonderdst 10-31-2004 11:57 PM

EXCELLENT MOVIE!!!!

I just came back from seeing the movie. I absolutely loved it. Jamie Foxx did an outstanding job. I cried and laughed. It will definitely be added to my DVD collection when it comes out.

I co-sign with most of Sistermadly's post here. There were a lot of really touching scenes. RC, like many of his era, was about much more than his music.

Who was the woman who played his wife? She was a cutie...:p

Her name is Kerry Washington. She has appeared in small roles in a few major pictures over the last couple of years, and is going to be in the Fantastic Four (!) movie.

Good lookin' out, Sistermadly. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm headed over to Blockbuster....:D

If I'm not mistaken she played in Save the Last Dance with Julie Stiles and Sean Patrick Thomas(he was the know it all barber in Barber Shop). She Played Sean Patrick's sister.

I absolutely loved this movie. I was drawn to tears a couple of times. Jamie did an excellent job. I never thought he could be a serious actor but he proved me wrong.

I think Ray came in 2nd by default. Since it was Halloween weekend everyone wanted to see the Grudge because its a scary movie.

beauty_6049 11-01-2004 11:14 PM

I hear the movie is 2 hours and 45 minutes long. I need to take nap before I go...

Yeah, it was long, but its so riveting you don't notice the length of time you are in the theater.

This movie is a MUST SEE!!! It was EXCELLENT:D

Paradise359 11-06-2004 12:44 AM

Excellent, excellent, excellent! This WILL be added to my very exclusive(meaning I'm poor so I only buy the good ones!) DVD collection:)

lostnfound117 11-06-2004 11:43 PM

Ok...I can finally visit this thread!

EXCELLENT FILM!! I will be adding it to my DVD collection. It painted a great picture of Ray and Jaime was GREAT!!

I didn't even realize how long it was until it was over.

Gina1201 11-07-2004 02:12 PM

I saw it and also thought it was GREAT!!! Kudos to the entire cast.

ladylike 11-07-2004 03:54 PM

The sista who played Ray's mom in the film was phenomenal! She played that role! You could feel her pain through the screen.

lostnfound117 11-08-2004 01:52 AM

I cried on the part when little blind Ray fell and was calling for his mom.....

broke my heart man!!

bobbyearl93 11-09-2004 01:05 PM

Just saw the preview "Raelettes". I think Ray might be a NUPE:D He seems to have a way with the ladies.

Haven't seen the movie, yet. It looks like it will be good. I hope Jamie gets an Oscar. However, it's a shame that Samuel L. Jackson or Angela Bassett doesn't have one (Lead Role) yet.

Um not hating on Jamie, but this is only the first or second movie where he has delivered an OSCAR award winning performance. Jackon and Bassett have delivered 4 or 5 times each. Anyway, enough of that, this is a RAY THREAD.

I plan to see to see the movie this weekend.

AKA2D '91 11-10-2004 08:26 PM

CT4 and Ideal,

You probably will recognize the theater where Ray has on the BLUE suit. :o It's the theater where went to the comedy show (dirty shirt). Also, when Ray and "B" are walking to her home, you will see the 'ssip River Bridge. I think that area wasn't too far from Mardi Gras World.

It was an excellent film. I shed a few tears during the funeral scene.

:(

Gina1201 01-05-2005 02:19 PM

Just in time for Black History Month

Ray will be released on DVD Tuesday, February 1st. :D
