At The Ohio State University:

Not only would it not be scientific, but it can change day to day as groups pick up and lose members constantly. AND, for those with only 3 or 4 groups, knowing the top 3 groups doesn't tell you much.

OLE MISS (the university of mississippi)
Sorority 1. Delta Delta Delta almost 300 members (Chi Chapter) 2. Kappa Delta almost 300 members (Alpha Mu Chapter) 3. Chi Omega almost 300 members (Tau Chapter) 4. Delta Gamma almost 300 members (Alpha Psi Chapter) 5. Phi Mu almost 300 numbers (Alpha Delta Chapter) (I don't have exact numbers but I think at the next advisors meeting panhellenic will give it to us) Fraternity 1. Sigma Chi (Eta Chapter) 2. Sigma Nu (Epsilon Xi Chapter) 3. Phi Delta Theta (Mississippi Alpha Chapter) The rest of the sororities have at least 200 or more members The fraternities at Ole Miss range in size from like 30 members to 200 members... |
There is, however, a difference between the "top" organizations and the largest ones. "Top" is open to interpretation but largest is objective. Of course that's not to say that anyone knows for sure which organization on any campus has the most members, but it should be a pretty easy question to answer.

I think these are the largest at UCF. A collegiate can correct me if I'm wrong.
These are in no particular order. Sororities: 1) ZTA 2) AZD 3) KD or ADPi or TriDelta Fraternities: 1) Sig Ep 2) LXA 3) Pi Kapp or Kappa Sig or Sigma Chi or DU |
I'm not really 100% sure about my school. Numbers are a little hazy sometimes. Especially with some groups awful retention numbers. Currently, my chapter is at around 50 give or take a few.
I think Acacia is still #1 with somewhere in the neighborhood of 80. Past that, I'm not really sure. I believe we're either 2nd, 3rd or 4th depending on who you ask. |
There's only 2 sororities at my alma mater:
Alpha Phi Gamma Phi Beta *Phi Sigma Sigma will be colonizing in the spring Out of 6 fraternities 1. Pi Kappa Alpha 2. Pi Lambda Phi 3. Lambda Chi Alpha |
All of ours are local, so i don't know if this counts but.....
Fraternity 1. Pi Kappa Phi (not the national, founded before the national PiKapPhi, but share the letters) on our campus we call them Country Club 2. Sigma Delta Phi (Sphinx) 3. Lambda Gamma Epsilon (Kings) Sorority 1. Kappa Phi Omega 2. a tie between Tau Epsilon Mu and Theta Nu 3. either Sigma Alpha Tau (Owls) or Epsilon Kappa Tau Smallest: Fraternity 1. Zeta Phi or Eta Phi Mu Sorority: 1. Tau Delta (it's quality, not quantity!) EDIT!~ These chapters can all be found at Otterbein College in Westerville Ohio |
Clarion University
Largest Fraternities: 1) Theta Chi 2) Sigma Chi 3) Delta Chi Largest Sororities 1) Alpha Xi Delta 2) Delta Zeta 3) Alpha Sigma Alpha |
I'm not sure about fraternities, because Miami University has a ton of them...but I'm guessing that Beta Theta Pi, Delta Upsilon, FIJI, Phi Kappa Tau, Sigma Chi, Sigma Pi, Kappa Sigma, and Theta Chi would be the largest ones.
Sororities I know for a fact: 1. Kappa Kappa Gamma 2. Alpha Delta Pi 3. Delta Gamma |
To the best of my knowledge:
Kent State University Sororities: 1. Alpha Phi 2. Delta Gamma 3. Alpha Xi Delta **These really don't say much b/c we're ALL within about 20 of each other** Fraternities: 1. Sigma Phi Epsilon 2. Phi Delta Theta 3. Sigma Chi |
WVU
Sorority:KKG Fraternity: No idea b/c no one turns in real numbers. |
At FSU:
ADPi is the largest sorority, but they're all very strong with one exception. The three largest probably are ADPi, Tri-Delt and KD - but they're all in the same size range except one. Let me emphasize: all the sororities are good, very good. Fraternity IFC figures, spring 2004: Pike 182 Sigma Phi Epsilon 133 ATO 131 LXA 127 Phi Delt 127 Sigma Chi 111 Pi Kappa Phi 102 + 13 more, each under 100, + colonies of Theta Chi and Sigma Pi, and the SAE sub-rosa chapter called the Lions Club. Fraternity system is very strong. |
I honestly have no idea so I am just making some guesses here from what I have seen and heard.
For fraternities I think it goes something like: 1. ATO 2. Beta 3. DU, Ag Rho, AKL possibly, and some other ones all seem to be tied in terms of member numbers. KA was pretty big I think, but they're on probation right now so I have no idea about anything related to them For sororities I think it is: 1. DG, Kappa, and Theta are all about the same size with near 200 members each 2. Alpha Phi, Chi O, ADPi, and Pi Phi are all about the same too and they have like 170+ girls in each Looking at the greek directory it seems like every sorority has at least 160+ members... |
well geez.. i would say that sigma chi was one of the biggest fraternities here at OU.. but they won't be active here anymore.. hmm Sig Ep.. has the biggest fraternity pledge class.. about 55 new members this semester.. SAE is very big as well.. Sororities.. hmmm Tri Delta.. apparently we have the biggest tri delt chapter.. at OU.. Pi Phi ... well all the sororities seem big to me.. i mean i can point out the two smallest chapters..
|
Please post your schools!
I have a hard time believing that Beta is not one of, if not the biggest at OU (Oklahoma) - they have a 57 man pledge class this fall, and consistently have a 50+ pledge class every year. |
this thread is just another pissing contest. What is it with the guys lately all wanting to fight over who's *#&$ is bigger?
|
1. SKEPi
2. SHIM Yes, SKEPi is bigger than SHIM. |

Dee and then they rip on our formal recruitment methods! |

Doesn't SHIM always win the campus beauty contests, though? |
How did SKEPi do in rush this year? ;)
|
Can I say this?
You are sick and wrong! :D Thanks to you, I am now wiping my Tim Horton's coffee off my new monitor!

Am I missing something? SKEPi? SHIM? |
Why, dear, SKEPi is the best "not Sigma Kappa" sorority "not sorority" there is!
SHIM is also not a fraternity, nor a sorority, but both. ;) |

Now THAT is funny! :D |

fsu
according to the fsu panhellenic spring statistics, a d pi is the largest chapter with zeta tau alpha 2nd largest, and tri delta third largest, followed in order by chi omega, kappa delta, delta zeta, pi beta phi,phi mu, delta gamma, gamma phi beta, alpha chi omega, kappa kappa gamma and alpha gamma delta. these are spring statistics so the colony of sigma delta tau had not been founded yet. fall statistics have not been posted, but rush statistics have been posted in the recruitment forum here on greek chat. i would imagine that the size rank of the chapters has not changed.
|
Yeah Betas are pretty big at OU
|
You know, I wrote to inquire about alumnae initiation with SKEPi, and I never heard back! My hotness must be too intimidating for them. I DEMAND A RECOMMENDATION TO GET IN! :D
|
You might want to try TPAN. They're like the crappy wannabes of SHIM. You don't even need to find a sponsor!
|
I feel so stupid. I still don't get it. :-(

Don't worry about it, Carolina DG.
About SKEPi, when you have a lot of time and need some entertainment, check out these threads, which include posts from, and usually were started by, one particular poster who wanted to found a local sorority sort of kind of thing, strikingly similar to Sigma Kappa but, of course, not modeled on Sigma Kappa at all: http://forums.greekchat.com/gcforums...der=descending As for SHIM, let's just say it is for people for whom the pronouns "she" and "him" might be equally appropriate. |
