Can we say dirty old man?

Can we say "have a happy and successful marriage?"

ZTAMich 10-03-2004 08:09 PM

Good for him. Hope they're happy. :) All the best to a fellow LawnGuylander.

His new wife graduated from my university in 2003. I never met her, but general consensus from my housemates is that she is a Theta.

Billy Joel is the best song writer ever. Good for Billy Joel. He could serenade her with "The Longest Time" but probably wrote her a new one. He kicks ass, and you should respect him.

Sorry! But in any case, I still think a 23 year old is too young for him.

Do you personally know him? How much time have you spent with her? How much life experience do you have to make such judgements? How much professional experience? How do you know that they're not perfect for each other? Are you passing judgement based on your extensive personal experience with such relationships?

Let's see...she's a college graduate, an adult, and has a job.

He's an older man who's provided for his child, worked hard to achieve his successes in life, donated his time and money to the less unfortunate, has never been charged as a pedophile, and hopefully gotten a pre-nup agreement. Taualumna your defintion is off base. This is NO WAY near Mary Kay LeTourneau territory. He's not a "dirty old man".

If you don't agree with age difference that's one thing. Let's flip it. What would you say the next day, if Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher get married? Big age difference. Is she a "dirty old lady"?

If they're legal and consenting adults, live and let live.

You have got to be kidding me Cynthia, your comments make me sick.

Ditto on everything Russ said.

My father was 52 and my mother was 21 when they married. He was pushing 60 when I finally popped out.

Too bad I didn't get a chance to tell him that he's a dirty old man before he died.

I hope they have a wonderful marriage.

I don't believe in large age differences (+10 years). That's just my thing. I think a big age difference is creepy.

Granted that's a generalization I make a lot but there are exceptions sometimes. He doesn't deserve "dirty old man" status...yet.

"Some love is just a lie of the heart
The cold remains of what began with a passionate start
And they may not want it to end
But it will, it's just a question of when
I've lived long enough to have learned
The closer you get to the fire the more you get burned
But that won't happen to us
Because it's always been a matter of trust"
~great song i've always enjoyed

Peaches-n-Cream 10-03-2004 10:55 PM

Good for them. I don't care about age differences since I'm happy with my "dirty old man" boyfriend.

Billy Joel had one of the best concerts that I have ever seen. He is an amazing performer.

I shouldn't have posted this, should I? I'm worried that this thread would get out of hand. Once again, I'd like to apologize.

The article is not the problem.

Your comments were just way out of line.

I LOVE BILLY JOEL! I always told my husband that he'd be the only man I'd leave him for. So, he was very relieved to hear about the marriage! LOL! It probably won't last (he cheated on CHRISTIE for goodness sake!), but I still wish him all the happiness while it does!

ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG!!!!

I had always heard Christie Brinkley cheated on him, not the other way around. After all, hasn't she had 2 husbands since their divorce?

I'm not even going to comment on the "dirty old man" comment. It just reeks of someone who has little to no life experience.

I thought that, too. I heard that she had cheated on him with the guy that she met when her plane crashed in the mountains who she later married and then divorced.

KSig RC 10-04-2004 09:40 AM

Good for Billy.

If he's a dirty old man, well, I can only hope to aspire to be wealthy, talented, and attractive enough in my 50s to pull 23 year olds, for serious.

ajuhdg 10-04-2004 10:17 AM

Nope, she was talked about his infidelity quite openly in her Lifetime biography show. She said how difficult it was to protect her young daughter from it.

Also, I believe that the woman he's married to is actually 26.

Don't apologize. You are entitlitled to your opinion, I just dont think its based on anything solid.

Maybe if you elucidated? Why do you think its wrong? Skeevy is an emotional reaction and hard to evaluate.

But if you can't easily explain your rationale its probably not very valid.

These kind of things happen all the time, we just don't hear about it.

I think marrying someone in one's parents' age range is just a little bit creepy. Also, he's 55 years old. Say he and Kate have a baby in two years. He'll be 57, she'll be 25. As wealthy as Billy is, he will still be 57 and at 57, one must be more careful about their health than someone who is 27 or 37. What I'm trying to say is that he might not be able to do the same "daddy-kid" things he might have done with kids from his previous marriage, all because of his age. That isn't all that good, I don't think.

ZTAngel 10-04-2004 12:09 PM

Ok, so let's say he does wait until 57 to have kids (if they even decide to have children). You say that he won't be able to do "daddy-kid" things. I guess you're referring to playing baseball with the kids, running around with them, etc. Who's to say he's not in great physical health? 57 really isn't that old. Maybe if he were in his 70's I would say that he may not be able to do daddy-kid stuff but not in your late 50's/early 60's. I clearly remember my grandfather playing soccer with me when I was younger. He was in his 60's.
Yes, he may have to watch his health more than a 37 year-old father but I think that's for Billy and his wife to determine rather than for us to criticize.
I agree that it is a big age difference but I wouldn't say that it makes him a dirty-old man. They may have found something in each other that they didn't find with anyone in their own age group.

ajuhdg 10-04-2004 01:32 PM

my bad...there were several sources that said she was 26. Aw, who cares, it's only three years.

*continues to bang head on wall*

Cynthia, the fact that you're so damn closed-minded makes me want to throw up.

AlphaGamDiva 10-04-2004 02:23 PM

eh, i wouldn't say he's a "dirty old man" (we all know i would jump at the chance of bein with my gary :) ).....i do think there is a limit, though, to these romances. personally, i would have to say that anna nicole and her 8000 year old hubby were a little on the gross side. taualumna, you're entitled to your opinion....to each his own, right? :D

anyway, best wishes for billy joel and his new bride. :D

ADqtPiMel 10-04-2004 03:16 PM

Who are we to judge who others are attracted to? It's not your life. If you're disgusted by that, then you don't have to date Billy Joel.

I hope they live happily ever after.

Yeah good call. I knew/know a 25 yearold who married some 49 yearold writer guy. He was a jerk she was too good for him.

DeltAlum 10-04-2004 04:51 PM

Well, I can say one thing for sure. Christie didn't have an affair with me.

Damn.

As for marrying someone that young...if he can put up with the lack of experience and maturity, good for him!

Just Kidding.

Ha ha ha...

I bet she wouldn't mind if he stuck his face in front of the air conditioner.

Rudey 10-04-2004 06:29 PM

haha when I'm that old, I can't wait to find a young girl like him and get me some loving and get her preggers or something and find another chick right after. hahahaha

Lets not concentrate on just Billy Joel. Kate Lee had a say in the matter. She's college educated, and probably posesses at least the minimal math skills needed to perform an analysis of how old her husband will be when their children hit certain milestones. I'm sure that she thought long and hard about this. She weighed her options, and decided that even though this would be very different, and that there would be narrow minded people who would pass judgement, this would work for her, and her future children. She probably realized that Billy Joel will be able to provide their children wisdom, and a musical home that almost no younger man ever could. This doesn't sound so bad to me.

A 32 year age gap is too much for most people. Its too much for me. I've never been involved with a women more than several years younger than me. If this it what works for them, and they have a healthy relationship, then I'm happy for them.
