Calling all GC "old-timers"!

Let me start off by saying that there is no official date/time/whatever to signify "old-timer" status. If you think you're one, you probably are one.

I have a question. Do you ever do searches on all the posts you've left? Do you read some of them and think, "whoa...I said that?"

Most of the posts start at 2001 because that was when we had that big changeover. I'd love to see my first ever posts though...that'd be neat.

So in my little trip down memory lane I was humored to see my more classic moments...the big LA trip I took with my then BF, the months where he was deployed and KillarneyRoses's reassurances that Kate Spade = temporary happiness, the awful breakup, going at it with Blaine because I initially thought he was an asshole, Blaine's accident and feeling like shit...and finally becoming an alum. When I first joined GC, GC was puke green, I don't think we even had the Private Messaging system, newbie (Carolyn) was still in high school, and AXO Alum and PenguinTrax weren't mommies yet, ;) LOL.

Many of us check & post on GC on a daily basis and up until today I didn't really realize how much we actually share with each other on a daily basis. I thought it was pretty neat.

Optimist Prime 10-02-2004 09:12 PM

right here :)

lifesaver 10-02-2004 09:27 PM

Holla. A lot of water has passed under the bridge in the 4 years I have been here.

Random stuff happens to me and I think to myself that I need to post it in chitchat.

Glitter650 10-02-2004 09:44 PM

Although I'm not a super old timer... (I've been here almost three years) I must say that GC is like an addiction... I started posting just after I joined and now I'm alum and lots has changed, on GC and in my life, but I've met people from my school who I didn't know before and became friends with them, met people on GC that know people I met in person first... gotten good advice... learned a WHOLE lot... GC is pretty much invaluable... you know I think if all the women on GC formed a sorority and all the men formed a fraternity... they'd be the best, strongest, GLOs ever.

DeltAlum 10-03-2004 12:22 AM

Been around for awhile, but have never gone back to look at my old posts except when there has been new information on a topic or to defend a point.

Perceptions and feelings change, even for we "older" alums, but I doubt I'll ever take the time to look back very far. I'd rather look forward.

I can understand looking back for the sake of nostalgia, though. I just doubt that I will.

Gamma Chi, anyone? ;) :p :D (It had to be said. OK, maybe it didn't. ;) )

I can't say I've searched and gone through all my old posts, but sometimes I'll see a thread from 2001/2002 that was bumped, and I see the symbol that indicates I posted on that thread, and I'll go back through the thread looking for my post. Makes interesting reading...

Senusret I 10-03-2004 12:48 PM

I think I am GC middle-aged. I first came on in 2001, late summer, I think, with another screen name. Changed to this one after I became an Alpha.

To be honest, I come across some of my more well-written posts and think DAMN, I said that? Cuz the further I get away from college, I think I get dumber, LOL.

lifesaver 10-03-2004 03:22 PM

I somehow just aged on GC too.

For the last 4 years my "member since" date has been June 2000. Now it says May 2000. Dosent bother me cause I had been lurking that month, and I registerd on June 1. So it was almost May.

Anyone else just get a littler older?

cutiepatootie 10-03-2004 03:41 PM

I am somehwat gc middle aged...joined 2002

cash78mere 10-03-2004 04:04 PM

i joined a long time ago and i have occasionally checked out my old posts. it amazes me all the things i had no idea about back then and all the misassumptions i made! things have definitely changed...

Kevin 10-03-2004 06:45 PM

When I first started here, I was still a colonist. About a month away from receiving my charter.

Peaches-n-Cream 10-03-2004 07:15 PM

I guess I'm a GC old-timer. I checked out this site for a while before I signed up in Sept. 2001. Now I am a charter member of Metro DPhiE Alumnae Association. :)

cashmoney 10-03-2004 07:19 PM

I think you had to be here for the Vs to be old skool.

ZTAngel 10-03-2004 08:04 PM

I'm old school GC. I've been here since October 2000 which was around the heyday of a certain mother/daughter team. ;)

I signed up in December 2000 and by January 2001 I was their target via e-cards:

Yup, every once in a while. Even though I haven't been around as long as many in this thread, it's getting toward 2 years for me. An eon itself in Internet terms.

LOL. I remember that!
Now that I think of it, we haven't played the 'Dueling Banjo' song on here in a while!

cashmoney 10-04-2004 10:36 AM

I'm not old skool, you think?

sigtau305 10-04-2004 01:29 PM

I guess I qualify. been a member since 2001.

Steeltrap 10-04-2004 01:35 PM

Signed up in April 2001, started posting a month later. I've seen some crazies here in my time.

AlphaGamDiva 10-04-2004 07:27 PM

dec. '01....i've been around for quite a few GC dramas and scandals......but i have to admit i am WAY curious about the "V's"

MTSUGURL 10-04-2004 08:29 PM

I've been here for awhile, but I've managed to always leave for a few days to deal with real life stuff, then come back as the drama dies down, or I miss it completely.

It's that way in real life too... I'm always oblivious to the drama. I think people just instinctively know I don't want to be involved in it.

Cosign. I lurked for quite a while, just didn't have much to say. I wish I could remember what caused me to finally register & post but it was something that struck a chord in me.

I think it would be funny to read old posts! I guess I just hadn't really considered it, with certain exceptions.

lifesaver 10-05-2004 01:34 AM

Whats crazy is I have been here forever, (feels like it) and missed the Fred Hatchett stuff almost completely. Not that I am upset or anything. Got my fill of the drama from the V's.

hottytoddy 10-05-2004 02:55 AM

Well I haven't been posting that long. But I used to read the message boards long before I began posting.

bcdphie 10-05-2004 11:59 AM

I'm a super old timer - I have been lurking around here since Sept 1999!

I had initially come here to do research on sororities and fraternities for my series story (so I was probably around here in 1999).

And from that need to research and get things right, I ended up being so interested in how dedicated everyone was to their organizations that I ended up joining=)

So I went from zero knowledge of Greek life to being an AI and running a Greek related website lol.

I remember you as brooklineu! Do you think you'll ever get your stories published? LOL, I started reading from the beginning, and then I stopped because I was too busy to keep up, and I haven't been keeping up since.

One day when I have some time, I'm going to spend some time with your stories...from what I recall they were awesome. :)

CarolinaDG 10-05-2004 06:35 PM

My favorite is when you go back and realize that people are STILL posting to things you long forgot about YEARS ago...

... And there have been quite a few crazies... Back when I was nieve, there was that Pike guy (if he really actually was one) from Florida who kept changing his name, and thought that all Delta Gammas were WAAAY cool (ok, so that part about him wasn't crazy). I got all wrapped up into PMing him before I realized that he had been banned several different times and just kept changing his name.... I think he was UFPike back then?

Yes! I've thought the same thing about some of the stuff I've written...and then of course I see the really ignorant stuff I've also said and I change my mind. :p

I never said you were way cool or that ALL DGs were way cool. I thought you were nice but that you're a little too country. And if getting banned 3 times for not following the rules makes me crazy....oh well. I really don't give a shit.

that is the quote of the century

Shelacious 10-06-2004 06:50 PM

I guess I'm pretty old school

It looks like I've been on quite a while, actually. I was one of the early moderators, when we only had greek life and the specific organization forums.

I've been visible to most of the drama, but rarely in the middle of it.

I think I lurked for a little while back in 1999, but didn't start posting until 2001. I missed the V's and most of the VS drama though. :(
